What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell senior me to focus more on school and less on the drama caused by "friends" because once you're in college none of that will matter. You will meet many people with your same intrests and make great friends. I would tell myself to try harder because even though I was doing well and getting great grades, it is totally different in college. No one babies you and extends due dates. Professors don't read the textbooks for your. Most importantly, I would show me all the scholarship opportunities there is and tell myself to apply to as many possible because one day I would be broke because of all the school fees! Any extra money is good when you're in college because all the studying is going to make you very hungry!

Going back in time as a senior will be the best opportunity into becoming a more college ready student. As a senior i remembered most of the time i did not care about my classes. I tended to not pay attention to the lectures or what the teachers had to say. If i was to go back in time i would tell myself to read more, study more, pay attention in class, learn how to take notes, hear more, and improve my writing skills. Now that i am a college student i struggle with my writing skills and listening skills. It is crucial to know how to read and write in order to be a college ready student. Be more responsible is one of the main points into becoming a more college ready student. It is crucial to pay attention to the professors and the lectures so you wont get behind. The most important thing is to always hear what your teachers have to say. Their advices and recommendations are the key to be ready for college.

Everyone have the opportunity to be successful in life!?Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.?Nelson Mandela said. This men inspired me to have my career goals. One of my career goals is to finish my career in criminal justice at UTB. After completing this goal, I want to finish my Masters and to belong to national security. My career goals are to finish my career, and have a stable job where I feel comfortable. College to me is an important goal that I want to overcome. Criminal justice is my career goal that I want to complete and work it later. My career goals are to attain a career where I can express my police talent and passion for protect our country as well as open my mind in ways that I could never do at any other career. I am very strong and intelligent about criminal justice and how I want to excel it. My career goals are the first thing I have in my mind all the time. Remember: successful in life!?Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.?Nelson Mandela said.

I know you don't like yourself too much right now. I know you just want Mom and Dad to let you do what you want. But keep doing what you are doing. You're going to do it anyways. You're going to crash your truck and break your bones. You're going to ruin your college transcript by not trying. But... It's all part of a learning experience. They are all things you're going to look back and use as a tool to grow and to succeed. Don't beat yourself up about anything, be good to yourself. Grow from your mistakes and know that things will get different. You're not stuck. Contrary to what you think, everything is not your fault. Keep your side of the road clean and don't worry about anything else. You are exactly where you're supposed to be, even if it's bad. Find out who you are, the good and the bad. Go make friends, they won't bite and most importantly, Love yourself.

Meriel

I would give myself the advice to be more open to new experiences. Entering the University of Texas at Brownsville, I was shy and timid. I would like to tell myself that the people I was about to meet would be benificial to my acedemic and social life.

Cinthia

If I could go back to high school as a senior then I would advice myself to be in the same position as I am now as a college student. I would advice my self thefollowing: keep myself more active in school organizations, keep my grades up as high as possible, apply for tons of more scholarships. Never let go of your hopes and dreams, college is different. Advice others of the reality of attending college. Prove my self that I'm worthy of others. But the one I care more about is that I would go back and tell myself to appreciate more of others.

Olukunle

I would have better prepare for the challenges ahead. Also, i would take every course seriously without levity because everything been thought at High School reflects again in college but in an advanced way. The greatest advice I will give to myself is never to memorize just to pass the course(s) but to read, understand and assimilate every topic or course before committing it to memory, because, understanding a course will definitely have a lasting impression in someone's memory. Moreover, I would be a more studious student because of the challenges ahead and take serious of every advice given by the teachers, counselors and principal because they have been there before. Furthermore, I would take a dual enrollments in order to garner some college's credits while still in high school, because it prepares someone for the challenges ahead and ultimately, it makes the academic route in college more faster and to be ahead of my peers who fail to enroll for dual enrollments In high school. Lastly, paying the price will be my watchword. I will make sure I commit to my studies at the expense of pleasure because it pays at the end.

Ruby

Going back in time to where I was a highschool senior, I would tell myself to apply to as many scholarships as I can because it's a huge hassle trying to come up with the money. I'd also tell myself to get used to reading and giving up my social life because for the next couple of years, school is going to come first. In high school, I was never really involved in many extracurricular activities, and being in college now makes me realize that if I would've been involved, I'd have so many connections to different things. The thought of college being this difficult now makes me want to actually go back in time and make a few changes so I wouldn't have to be struggling now. It'd be fantastic if I could go back in time and do that, but I just have to make the best of it for now.

Barbara

Traveling back in time to a high school senior, the proper advice I would tell myself would be to choose a career pathway that could keep my family and I at a economical stability. Knowing that, the classes I may choose would be early as possible to finish to achieve the bachelor, masters, or even a doctrile degree. Through my college career, I would volunteer as many hours as possible to gain the proper hours for work experience.

Ly

I have learned many mistakes, for one is having morning classes. Two, don't cram all classes into one day. Three, always be prepared for class and plan ahead when the next assignment is due.

Kanesha

Hello Kanesha, it's you from the future returned to tell you about college life. Knowing how it is, I recommend that you get into as many extracurricular activities as you possibly can, it will look great when you go to apply for the four year schools you've been dreaming about. In addition to extracurricular activities, you might want to take your ACT and SAT test, although I know you want to take the easy way out of it by attending a Junior College, you'll thank yourself in the long-run. You're going to get a job, but don't let it detour your focus keep getting those A's you aspire for. Don't be too afraid to apply for any and all colleges, you'll be fine the right one will come through. Once you're in college do your best and make great friends and connections and enjoy the ride of your life.

Gael

The advice I would bestow to my past self is to take every advantage he is given during his high school years. With all those opportunities i died, I am in financial trouble. So the best advice is to, as said before, take every opportunity that it is given to him.

Alexis

If I could travel to give me a warning, I would say: Everything your parents tell you is true. Your going to need a lot of money and you have to start looking for scholarships to not have so much pressure for the money. If you really want to fulfill your dream begins to think outside the box.

Juan

The advice I would give myself is to not worry about what people think of you. As a college student, I've learned to ignore the what people say or think of me. By doing that I have accomplished much more and feel much happier than I ever was back in high school. If I want to get something done, I don't worry about what people think. I just go out there and do it. In high school, worrying about what people thought of me restricted me from accomplishing more goals and made me feel unhappier. I felt it was more important to follow the crowd instead of ignoring the peer pressure which held me back. This is why I would tell myself as a high school senior to ignore what people think of you and do what you want. This advice goes for everybody not just me. You'll accomplish much more with your life if you stop worrying what people think of you. If you want to play soccer, play soccer. Don't listen to people who tell you it's a bad sport. You do what makes you happy and successful.

Elaine

Elaine, it all works out. You figure out what it is you want to do and you were right, the arts weren't the direction you wanted to go but, you had a good time, you learned alot, and you had alot of friends along the way. I'm sorry, but none of those friends stick around and you make a mistake with one you regret yet, you land on your feet with hardly a scratch. Dropping out of school to work was the right choice now and you returned to school later just like you promised yourself. You get engaged and you have a house together all by the time you turn 25 and you are getting closer to your dreams now that you've found a reason to keep going. I cannot give it all away but its all good things when you get here.

Jackeline

I would tell myself to never procrastinate, and as the pastor David Jeremiah says, I intend to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done, the best that it can be done, and to do it that way every time. Also, as my 7th grade teacher, who passed away last year of cancer, reminded his students everyday and had written on the board, "PROCRASTINATION = DISASTER". At sixty-eight years old seven years ago, he told my 7th grade class that he would work until he was physically or mentally unable to work. I would tell my high school senior self to work harder by continuing to turn in my homework on time and never miss a deadline, study to get high grades on quizzes and tests, and, most importantly, study to gain knowledge, and if I did not understand a problem or a lesson from the book, I should ask professors and tutors, so that I could have a higher GPA at the end of my senior year and get accepted to a high prestige university after earning an associates at UTB. As college-guide writer says, "always do a little more than the average student".

Suzelly

If i would go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself to not slack off in college and to read a lot because that is what is most important. I would also advice myself to really think about what I want to pursue as I grow up, to have a plan ahead of time, that way there are no changes in my major while I am in college. I would also tell myself to research about jobs and study abroad programs for the future, because those would come in handy.

Janie

Janie, you are not going to have a smooth track back to college, but when the time comes make sure to have support support system in place. Your psychiatrist will help you keep your emotions in control, if you tell them what is happening in your life. Don't bottle it in do not put pressure on your self you will be fine. You will be in classes competing with people 15 years your junior and you will be great. Embrace your differences your bipolar disorder will help you and not be a distraction. Just remember when you feel yourself hitting a brick wall find a different approach, because the defination of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. Lastly you will be great, because if you give everything you have you can never be let down with the outcome.

MAGDA

The advice that I would give to myself would be that I would never give up that I must fight to obtain my goals and work hard to get ahead in order to have good grades and in this way I will be able to graduate with good grades, and learn more about my career to become a excelent degree in international business.

Clara

I would advice myself to never procrastinate and to start on my work as soon as I was aware of it. I will admit I was a procrastinator, but now I am not and it is truly great. I have every single assignment written on my planner with all due dates and things I have to do. It really pays off and I am no longer behind on my work, if anything I am ahead.

JAVIER

The best advice I would be able to give is to never underestimate your ability. I have surprised myself time and time again by my own potential and wish I had shot higher during the college application process my senior year. I would also encourage myself to dig deep for the underlying beauty behind knowledge and the power recieved through the journey of its attainment. I would warn of taking the road MOST traveled, and encourage instead the trek of self discovery. In so doing, I would strongly discourage pursuing premedical studies and instead spark the love I have now of mathematics. I would reassure myself that nothing is set in stone, and that the most important thing to do is to pursue something you genuinely enjoy.

Gabriela

I would give myself the advice to be determined and focus at all times. These are two very important and valued characteristics in my life because my first language was spanish and I come from a migrant family, therefore I had to try my very best to learn English and to keep up with all my classes. As I grew up I learned that with determination I could achieve my goals and finish my education. I did suffer greatly but I overcame my obstacles by staying focus all the time during school. Up to now these characteristics are what brought me to where I am right now. I am seeking a career in Nursing and financial aid has helped me out quite a lot but it has not been enough though. This is the reason I'm applying for scholarships and why I haven't given up because I am determined to finish my career.

Elisa

Don't worry about "being cool" and "fitting in". Yes it might have mattered in high school, but it is completely different in college. No one here cares if you were cool or not, heck, no one even really cares what you wear. Don't worry about looking like a loser if you're by yourself. In college, it does not matter! Just be yourself and don't care about what other people think about you.

Ilse

Being as anxious as I am, I know that talking to my future self would be scary. Instead of the confrontation, I'd deliver a letter to myself. In this letter, I would let myself know that friends and boyfriends are important, but not the most important thing in life. I'd convince myself to prioritize better because although being vice-president of the senior class and yearbook editor look great on college applications, extra-curriculars can only get you so far. I would definitely ask myself to rethink the school I had set my mind to and I would tell myself that I was only going there for the wrong reasons. I would give myself advice on heartbreaks and I’d tell myself that although the school of my choice was nice, being at home would be better for the times up ahead. Most importantly, the biggest lesson I would teach myself would be to take as many dual enrollment courses as I could because the biggest disadvantage of college is having to borrow so many loans.

Jaqueline

I would tell myself to take everything more seriously. College is not a joke and it is totally different than high school. I would also tell myself not to procrastinate because it will hurt you if your are not careful. I would also tell myself that deadlines are very important and to use a calendar. A planner should be your best friend since you tend to forget things, even important things. I would also tell myself to apply for as many scholarships as possible and make sure all your financial aid paperwork is in order. Another important thing is to study hard and as often as possible. Take a deep breath and relax. If things don't go your way, it is not the end of the world. Dust yourself off and try again. As long as you keep trying and never give up, your'e golden.

Yvette

Do not let someone else think for you or decid your future. I am advising you only because that was done to me, and my mother just went with what some doctor told her. I have work two job for four years and was able to maintain job for nine years and in those years I had strated from the bottom and was able to end up as a superviser at one point. Believe in your self because you are able to do anything and everything if you put your mind and heart to it. Do it for your self try to succeed for you not anyone else, and if you started a familiy before time don't worry you can also succeed but now you have to think about your kids too. Do not let no other person in your life feed you negetivity try to keep those persons away from you. I would suggest for you to meet new people with positive attitude that will help you succeed and progress in life. Believe in your self because I believe in all of you.

Vanessa

I would of tell my slef to stay in school rather than taking a break, because its much harder to return back to college once you have a couple of years without practice.

Alexis

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I would tell myself to never change who you are and trust yourself. Trust every decision you make and that it's going to work out, don't stress over the little things they willl drag you down. Always be you no matter other's opinions, you can't always change people's minds, but you can control yourself and the way you are. Treat people with kindness and let the ones who dislike you, dislike. There's nothing you can do to change the mind of people who have no reason for their actions. Surround yourself with positivity, once you started thinking positive your whole life changed you started doing better all around in softball, school and life in general. Lastly, don't ever be afraid to fail. Fearing failure will always keep you from taking chances, but taking chances won't always lead to failure. Live everyday with a smile and brighten up someone else's, always be positive, trust that everything will work itself out, and live life with courage.

Stephany

If I was a high school senior again the advice that I would give to myself is to be more responsable, because high school is a lot different of college. In college you have to most of the thing by your own and there is no one who would be behind of you checking that you are responsable/ I would give me the advice to not depend that much of other people, because in college you need to be more independent.

Iuri

Organizing my schedule to study is the best way to succeed at college.

Ana

If I were able to go back to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself that college is really different and tougher than high school. I would say that the material learned in high school would come in handy in college and to pay extra attention especially in both math and english class. I would also tell myself to prepare for long nights of studying. I would warn myself of the load of responsibility that comes with attending college, and how it is preparing you for the rest of your life. Aside from academic things being in college gives you a small amount of time to have a social life but I would tell myself that it will be all worth it at the end. I would wish myself good luck and reasure that I know I will do well in college as long as I maintain my focus and ambition. I know this would all scare me but I believe that it is good because it is better to be prepared for the worst.

Scarlett

I've never really been one to look back at things from the past, but if I could be sincere I would have to admit I've thought once or twice about many things I could have changed throught high school. Senior year in particular. If I had the chance to talk to myself a year ago with the knowlege I have now I would tell myself many many things. The most important thing I would say to myself is to focus in nothing but education. Nothing is more important than being an educated individual. I would tell myself that nothing worth comes easy, always work hard for what you want, and never give up on my goals. Lastly to always have ambition and hunger to succeed in life.

rachel

I would tell myself to start applying for scholarship much sooner. I would also tell myself to try much harder in the AP class that I had my senior year. I was very driven and wanted to go out into the world much too fast. I was in a hurry to grow up and missed a lot of important details along the way.

Maritza

If i could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself several pieces of advice. To begin I would tell myself to concentrate on my education from day one in college. Rather than goofing off in high school and thinking it is okay to do the same in college, focus is key. Studying every night is necessary and I will not be able to get by without taking notes. Second, I would tell myself to stop caring about what everyone else in the world thinks and care about what I think about myself and what I need to be doing. Listening to what other people think my life should be like only created inner turmoil and stress. College life is so much easier when there is a clear cut goal set. So make a goal, set it, and work hard for it without letting your peers distract you or try to get you off the road to success.

Sandra

The advice I would give myself if I were to go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior is to be a bit more involved with campus organizations.

Sarah

Dear Sarah, Your senior year is going to be challenging but I know you will get through it. Some advice I need to give you is to; try your best and never give up, times will get tough but you have to overcome them, also keep your college options open and look at many colleges before you make that very important decision, apply for any and every possible scholarship because college is so expensive. You will be in debt going into college if you do not get a lot of scholarship money so do whatever you can to apply, and receive any scholarships available. College is going to be a big transition for you since you went to such a small high school, but you never know maybe you will find a small college that you are interested in. Whatever you do, don’t be afraid to go to college, every freshman is a new kid just as you are, you will make new friends. You will eventually get used to the transition and it will become your daily schedule. If you follow my advice you should do well in life, have a great senior year and future! Sincerely, Sarah

gggg If you are a guy, chances are you have or have had a taper fade haircut at least once in your life. These popular men’s haircuts are performed with the use of electric hair clippers, and they are among the most requested types of men’s haircuts in salons and barber shops the world over. A taper fade haircut is essentially a haircut in which the length of the hair either decreases or increases gradually, generally featuring longer hair on top that gradually tapers and fades to much shorter hair along the neck line and above the ears. While taper fade haircuts can be achieved at home by using virtually any electric hair clippers (most of which come with attachment guides to easily control the length in which you cut your hair), the fact of the matter is that taper fade haircuts have become something of an art form in many communities, and a trained hairstylist or barber can often provide cleaner lines and a far more polished, professional and put together overall look than most people can achieve on their own. Taper fade haircuts are among the most popular haircuts for men for a number of reasons,

If I could go back in time to find my self in High School, the only tip I would give to me would be: "Never keep the idea of doing something, do it." College its a whole new stage in your life, if you have great projects and ideas, make them happen when you are still on High School! This way you would be setting down the foundations that will raise into your carreer in the future.

Kadie

Focus on your school work. Soak up as much as you can, because your brain will never retain as much information, as it does now. Get involved, hang out with people you enjoy, and stop comparing youself to others, you're not going to please everyone. Appreciate your parents, he treats you like a daughter, treat him like a father, he'll be gone far too soon. Be thankful for the full fridge, laundry service, and allowance. Save your money. I know "you're rich", but you won't be your 4 years in college, trust me. Become comfortable enough with yourself to trust your own judement, but know that your choices do affect others around you. Stand up for what you believe in, say or do something productive, when you see someone else being treated badly. Work on your social skills, communicating and speaking up is a vital neccessity to learning. You're not going to like everyone, and they're not all going to like you, but that's life, and it's okay. High school was easy, and you're not prepared for the difficulty of college, adjust now.

Ashlee

I think I would tell myself to save money because school spirit is costly, and also apply for more scholorships.Don't be nervous to get out there and strat meeting tons of new people!!:)

Diana

Diana, college is not a continuation of high school. There is a lot more independence and that can easily stir your focus away from obtaining your degree. Time management is key for any university student, at least an additional three hours have to be put in for each class in order to attain a firm grasp of the subjects, and allow you to get a good foundation of the subjects. It might be dificult early on to decide what field you want to obtain your degree in, but try to complete one degree as soon as possible. If later you find that it no longer interest you, the abilit yto enroll in a graduate progream is available for you always. Don't let anyone question your ability to do anything that your heart desires. Always keep moving forward.

Gina

If I had a chance to go back in time to my highschool self, I would tell her to apply to as many scholarships as possible, and to step out of her comfort zone. Back then in highschool, I didn't have anyone telling me to apply for scholarships or even teach me how to apply for aide. Now that Im struggling, I wish I would have applied for more scholarships. Also, there was a time when I was so shy, I didn't know how to make friends. However, all the experience I have now, I love people! Socializing is a huge role in college. This is one of my favorite things, if only I knew how great it felt sooner, I wouldnt have been so scared. Though all the troubles and trials I faced, I have not regretted them. It made me who I am today, though a time machine would be nice, but it wouldn't have made a big affect on me than the actual experience of overcoming my difficulties and learning from them.

sarah

DO NOT FALL INTO THE DISEASE SENIORITIS!! The lazyness, and comfort that was set upon the seniors their last year of high school does not prepare for the college courses you take. It is serious work and takes time out of your day. There are no shortcuts or easy grades given. You have to work for your grade and earn it. So push yourself, and do not quit. All the hardwork pays off in the end, and when the time is right you are given your comfort.

Dalia

If i were able to go back in time i would advise myself to never give up on my goals and create good reading habits. Sometimes is hard to keep up when a grade is not as goos as you want. I have learnes thta only the hard work can take you to those good grades wanted. The second advice i can give myself is to start getting a good habit when reading becuase colleges demands many hours reading a book. For students like me, who are not used to read very often, it is difficult but not impossible. I have created good reading habits and i have learned to never give up.

Keith

Stay positive and focus on your studies. As an online high school graduate it was hard for me and it is even harder attending an online college. I always have to make time for my studies and time for my 40 hour week job as well. It is alot of responsibility and I need to make sure that i always make time for my family, job and schooling as well.

Tracy

I would tell myself take some advice from people in different high level professionals and ask about their career life how they started and where they went from there and try to experience their work by observation from what they do now. If you like what they do make a list of careers you might be interested in and research them and visit campus sites about their degree programs and be sure they aren't just courses because it might not be all what you expect on a specific campus you would have in mind and maybe there's something better out there for you. Be sure first what exactly you want to do and think about you hobbies as well if you would like to join a club or a sport you might like, go for it. There are campus' the acquire your needs and wants so you won't be wasting your time in college being undecided or change your mind on a major.

JUANA

I would advice my self to finish high school and attend college. I would advice my self that attending college is important, and that it is much easier to attend college when your not married and have children. I would also tell my self that college life is more enjoyable when you have more time to dedicated to it.

Jaclyn

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I was tell myself to get into a four year college. I would tell myself that investing in college will make my life so much easier. I would tell myself that with college I can support myself without having to depend on anyone else and that going to college will give me freedom.

monica

If I could go back and tell my high school self about what I know now about college life I would also tell myself about my future life in general as I have found that this affects my college life. Your going to marry Jon and that we would have three wonderful kids, I would even tell myself that it would be better if you wait until your 33 years old, you will be one of the oldest in class, your more mature and ready to learn instead of starting and wasting money. Don’t worry you will be very nervous when you go back but you will know it is time! Your ready to hit the workforce again, but without a college degree it isn’t easy. There are people at the colleges to help you through the process so don’t be so afraid when filling out applications. Don’t be shocked at the cost, its not cheap, but there is some financial aid out there and there are some scholarships and most of them require some type of essay, pay attention in English class, wished I had!

Jesus

Don't take life as it is for granted, high school ITS A JOKE, you think you have it figured out but things are different once you enter the cruel, cold, horrible real life. In college everything depends on you, no more there will be someone walking you all the way. This time if you don't make it happen you are going to end up living very miserable experiences. As harsh as I make it sound it doesn't have to be that painful, it can even be easy if you "study", just don't go ballistic and try to read a book in one sitting, because that doesn't work either (at least not for us [me]), just taking a reasonable amount of time each day to study and doing your homework should be more than enough to keep you in a good position. Keep it real, you knew life in high school was too good to be true, now its time to start the real deal. You have the power of making the transition from kid to young man as painless as it can be, I beg you to not waste it.
