What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Lydia

It's not so much about what school you attend. It is more important to do what makes you happy. It is important to look into different careers early on. If your profession doesn't need a degree with prestige, don't go to such an expensive school if you don't have the money. You will have to pay back student loans, and you don't want to pay them for the rest of your life. Use student loans only for school. Don't use them to buy a car or new clothes.

Ernestina

Students should interact with the school they wish to attend before enrolling. Finding the right school for you is very important and can effect how much u learn and gain during your college experience. Any college has the potential to be the right college if you apply yourself and go beyond the classroom to explore your potential. its important to find the enviroment that adequetely fulfills your needs. i suggest look at the social life as much as the academic life. A good balance of good academics and good social life is important.

It is essential that one enjoys every moment of their college life, because they will only live it once. It is also very important to always stay focused on your career and goals, while enjoying your life as a student. My biggest advice to parents and students about finding the right college is to ..

Cynthia

The advice that I would give the parents and the students about finding the right college would be to visit the schools in their free time. The reason I say this is because when I entered school I had never been on campus before and everything was new to me. I would highly recommend for the parents and students to visit the different campuses and get familiar with the surroundings. Another thing would be to get familiar with the faculty and with the different degrees that the school offers. The act of doing this will enable them to have an idea and several options to pick from. The best way of making a student have a best college experience is by feeling comfortable and welcomed in a place where they're going to be constructing their future.

Monica

I think that parents and student should really take into consideration the quality of education that they are paying for. Being a part of a school means so much more than just going to class. It means getting involved to help yourself and other people. the people who work at the university are a way to determine what your experience will be like in your time there. one must research the resources they can take advantage of at the school such as, computer services, free computer classes, clubs and organizations, on campus work, the library contents, academic services, etc. Other minor things to look at is the choices for housing, food plans, distance to essential and social places. The school someone chooses should make the person comfortable and happy.

Eva

take enought time to study and go over the several options you have.

Eric

I would tell them to study and leave all the extra carricular activities behind. Make sure you have lots of money and not working in a full-time job because the college experience will take so much out of a person. Listen to your professors and be open-minded to what they are teaching. Keep your dreams and hopes alive and never give up. Make sure when you meet your counselor that he or she is understanding to your needs. Overall as bad as the work load and the stress you will build, never give up.

Adriana

my advice to parents and students are the same, for parents to seed in their children the decition to persue education. the education is the only will they will have for sure and the most valuable heritage. be parent is big pleasure and big responsability too. there is not enough to feed them, or grow them physical, emosional and healthy. But give to them education. one of the best way to educate them is to eager to learn all that the teacher is teaching. In home, to supervise their home work. encorage them for the lecture, to be responsable with the education and the most, to serve others, to help others without look for money,j ust to serve, to help. To parents, muy advice is never give up in support the children in and out to school. to save money, to find a part time to have enough fonds to support his or her kid in collegue. never to give up in educate family members!. remembering olways that the best heritage we can give our children is to have a education.

Choose your college carefully. Don't base it the popular ones or the ones that party the most. This decision has to go with you throughout you entire college career. Be part of organizations and campus life. You get to meet new, interesting and valuable connections that will aid you in the future. Pick a college that fulfills all your needs. Educational and extracurricular. Many colleges offer a variety of programs that will give you the experience you need to succeed. Always involve your parents in your decisions because in the end, they know best and 9 out of 10 times, they have experienced it, one way or another.

Abigail

The best time to begin searching for the appropriate college is after you have decided what it is that you would like to study. The location, student body, and price are all important factors of course, but these won't matter if you are attending a school that doesn't even meet your academic needs. After choosing the school, the best advice is just to stay focused. You will have to learn to sacrifice alot of time to studying if you want to do well, but it will all pay off in the end.

Ana

The most helpful advice I can give to students is to never give up. I believe it doesn't matter the right college but the attitude the student takes towards attaining a college degree. Students should understand that every little step taken today will count towards the realization of future dreams and goals. It doesn't matter if we like our teachers. What really matters is to give our best in what we do because that will only affect ourselves. College will transform our life today and tomorrow. It will give us the tools today to transform our life tomorrow. We, as students, should act responsible and understand that doing the right things will only be for our own benefit. Studying today will only benefit our future grades, and our grades will be the proof of our study. Students: Never give up to what you believe in. Never give up to your studies because that is what will keep your future bright. College is the last step towards attaining our life goals. It is what will help us in succeeding.

Priscila

First of all, I think that whatever choice you have, it will be the besto chioce. At the moment we get into college, we will see if our expectations were good discovering all the programs, alternatives and recreations our university wiill have. You will have the best option if you try to see beyond your expectations and enjoy your experiencies in college.

Vanessa

Preparation for college is extremely necessary. When choosing a college, it is important to know what career you want to study. Some colleges offer better career plans than others.

Armando

making the most out of college simply involves making the right decisions. as we enter college, we are offered so many choices which can both impact us negatively and positively. every student has to be responsible enough to decide for themselves and make wise decisions. college is not the last step towards your education, but the first step towards the life you have decided to live. every decision we make in college is going to impact our career and in the long run, our life too!! my best advice to students, is to stay strong and firm on what you want. Don't be easly influenced and never let anyone decide you future for you. my advice to parents is to try to support and encourage your son/daughter as best you can. like mentioned before the future depends on the choices we make in college and the emphasis we apply to our work.

Jessyca

I am a person who likes to be close to home, this is why I chose to attend a college located in the same city I live. The advice I would give to parents or students is that there is nothing more important than to feel comfortable where you are. It does not matter what school you attend, the only thing that matters is how much you learn and how you enforce your learning. In my opinion, as a parent, I would definately like to be close to my children while they are in college. Being close to them helps parents see how much they are learning, and at the same time keep them on track. In addition, the student makes the college experience. For example, if the student chooses to pay attention and study for each course, college will be a great experience. Finally, if the student chooses to party instead of study the college experience will not be fun at all.

Michelle

I would advice parents to communicate with their children and ask them what they want to do after they graduate from high school. Like a great professor of mine once said, "most people are not meant to go to college." I strongly agree with her. What is the point of sending your child to any university if they do not want to be thier. It would be a waste of time for both the parent and the child when the child could be more successful doing something away from school. I know that as parents they want the best for their children, but sometimes the best for the parents is not the best for the child. What the parent should do is advice the child and let them decide what they want to do. For example I am the only person to attend a university in my family. No one adviced me to do anything when I graduated from High school. I myself made the choice of furthering my education. Sometimes it does not matter if the parents pressure the child to go to school. The child will be the one to determine what they want to do.

First of all, it is never too early to start thinking about your future. I believe a student should begin searching for scholarships by their sophomore or junior year of high school. A student can register online with different scholarship websites to get notice about which scholarships are available to them and which ones they quilify for. Speaking from experience, I registered with Scholarshipexperts.com and Fastweb.com. A student can also take an occupational survey or career test to see which job they are interested in having in the future. Based on the results of the survey, a student can search for different colleges or universities that have a program that best fits the students needs. Always complete a rough draft of the scholarship applications submitted because one error could refrain you from being selected. Make sure the student chooses the right school based on what he or she wants not what someone else wants for them. The student will probably not receive every scholarship that they apply for, but they should not give up and should still keep applying. For example, I applied for about fifty and received only two. Good luck!
