Texas Southmost College Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Evan

Before attending UTB other students rating would have been very helpful. Most people talk negatively of colleges because people only reach out to the public to complain about issues. If there was a website which would allow users to rate their school then schools would work harder to accomodate and appreciate their students. It's a win-win situation for students and colleges. Colleges would benefit from a higher completion percent because this system would help people find a school thats good for them.

Karla

I would like to know better all the programs and degrees they offer.

Honestly, my view on this university were far from nice. I wanted to venture upon a whole new world, and did not want to settle for a local college. However, after receiving notices of acceptance from major universities my ideals seemed to change. None of them took the time to know me, well the real me for that matter and the University of Texas at Brownsville did. Before I attended this university I was close minded and presumptious. My only wish is that I hadn't been so judgemental.

Benjamin

I wish I would of learned to speak spanish better! It is very common at this school.

Jusuli

I would like to have known the rules of the University and the system they have. Example would be the parking permit cost and where to get it. I would have liked to have had a list of all the important offices that are needed for first time college students.

Josias

Senior year in high school was the most stressing and demanding period of my teen life. There were so many important tests shoved into my face, it made me believe I had to take, and pass, all of them. SAT, THEA, COMPASS are some examples. However, no one told me that getting commended on my TAKS exam (junior year state exam) would be enough to attend UTB. That minute, yet precious piece of information would have prevented me from wasting countless hours on studying.

Luis

I really wish I knew how much of a hassel parking was going to be I understand maybe some cars parked on the side of the road here and there but at utb its horrendus thats the most commen excusse students and proffesers use when there late. sorry no parking. for 4 blocks in all directions, another thing . I wish I had knew how much the teachers dont care abot you.

Maria

I only wish I had paid more attention to financial aid deadlines, and learned more about scholarships and grants! I would have given myself more time to choose a career and use the career services at the college.

Llesmin

I wish I was aware of all the assistance there is for financial aid. I would have taken the advantage of it.

Almendra

I wish I had learned, before I arrived to this school, to where you can locate and obtain resources necessary.

Rebekah

To get involved right away, then waiting a year and to listen during orienation.

Lydia

I wish I knew that there are too many students that are at college just for socializing--many don't care about actually learning, especially in the lower division classes.

Jessica

It's hard to see an Advisor or a Financial Aid advisor. You have to wait hours most of the time just to ask a simple question.

Armando

Since i grew up in this town i was fully aware of the Univeristy here in town. I am glad to see it growing at the rate it is as, its one of the fastest growing schools in the UT system.

Michelle

The university of Texas at Brownsville accepts any individual who wants to futher their education. The university is four miles away from my house and that is very convinient for me. The university of Brownsville is a good school dedicated to educate anyone who is willing to take that determination. Being that Brownsville is right next to the border of Mexico, I wish that we would of had more security to protect all the people attending the university. Not only the staff and personell, but the students as well. Overall, UT Brownsville is a great school.
