One of the biggest advantages that I found when looking at colleges was talking to current students. A tour is great and should be done, but each college creates their tour to show the best aspects of the school. The College of Saint Rose offers an overnight program for accepted students and was the key point in my choice to attend there. This program allows potential students to stay on campus for a night with current students. Each experience is uniquie because you attend the student's classes and they pair you up with someone in your intended major, you get to eat at the dining hall, and participate in the everyday activities of a normal student. If the colleges that you're looking at offer such an experience, I highly recommend that you participate. College is said to be the best four years of your early adult life, so where you attend should be carefully thought out. Do not hold back any questions you want to ask, it may affect your future. Enjoy college hunting and prepare yourself for the biggest learning experience of your life!
One who would prefer a large campus with lots of students.
That I live in a house with a kitchen, but it is still technically a dorm.

Parents should listen to their children. If they don't like the feel of the school when they walk on campus they won't like it so don't force them to look at it. Students should take advice from their parents because sometimes they know you better than you think. Let parents help pick out a school. That way the range of schools varies.

I would advise parents and future students to consider all aspects of the college experience; the education, the social life, and the expense. I would then encourage them to consider which of these held the most importance for them when deciding on which college to attend. I know I have received a wonderful education from my college, but I feel like I definitely missed out on the social aspect of the college experience. My biggest regret is that I did not study abroad. Travel and culture are interests of mine and I wish I had pursued them more in college. So I would advise students to find what things interest them and pursue them, alongside their education, in order to get the most out of their college years.
There is little to no social life on campus for a commuter.

The College of Saint Rose is a very personal setting with a small campus and small classes where you will not be lost in the crowd.
To parents: when visiting a campus with your child, look for how they react to not only the campus itself, but the surrounding area. They are going to have to live there, not just go to school there, so they are going to have to be able to enjoy what surrounds the campus as well as the campus itself. To students: when visiting a campus, look at the people who work there, not just the faculty and staff, but maintence, facilities, security, and food services. These are the people that are going to see you at your worst, in the morning getting breakfast when you haven't showered yet, and when the toilet is clogged in your dorm and they have to come fix it. In a tight spot if you ever need to call security, even just for an escort home from the library, are they going to be cold and only business-like or are they going to be warm and really make you feel secure? You will only have professors for class, but how do you feel about the people that are always around? Good luck!
A person looking forward to starting their career, whether it be business, education, communication, or graphic design, with an appropriate and comprehensive education should attend The College of Saint Rose.

It is very imortant to find a college that fits you as a person. Go visit schools, and eventually you will see one that just feels right. Once you do go to school, the "college experience" is something to take advantage of. You should go to every class and do all your work, but you should also take advantage of the social opportunites that are all around. Go to a sports game, or go to a concert. Many colleges go out of their way to make sure that the students have social options on campus, so they dont go out drinking every night. So the only advice I can give, is to take advantage of everything.
Most of the students here are very liberal minded people, and they all work very hard for their goals. So someone who wants to do well in life, should come to the college of saint rose.
The major I have chosen, Geology, is relatively new here at the College of Saint Rose, and the class sizes are still a bit small for my liking.
The education program on campus, it attracts people from all over the country.

I would say to check out all campuses, even those that you may not seem interested in. Once on a campus, you have a different outlook on life and school!
Someone who enjoys going out and having fun in a city, but who is also looking for that small space (small classes, one-on-one relationship with teachers). It's nice to be in a huge city, yet have your own privacy on such a small campus.

My advice would be to not limit yourself. Discover your interests, determine how far you are willing to move away, and search. With the amount of colleges and universities in America it would be a shame to see a student just settle for a college they dont enjoy or benefit from. Going to college is a rewarding experience both socially and academically. It is important to be involved on campus and with the community in order to benifit that much more. College days are the days that you shape your future and it should not be wasted. My advice is to get out there and go bold, try your hardest, and take as much as you give.
I would change the speed at which things get done. A common sentence is, "we are paying this much...for this?" When you think of the amount of money entering the schools accounts its only natural to think the school owes us now, which they do. When a student wants things done they expect it to be done and its easy to forget the process of things and the hierarchy of the school. With that said, I would change the speed at which maintinence issues get solved, the scheduling of shuttle busses, and the amount of aid provided.
The most frustrating thing about my school would have to be the same as the worst things as mentioned above; maintinence issues, scheduling of shuttle busses, and the amount of financial aid provided.
I would tell parents and students to stray from the tour and talk to actual students, in the deptartment, of choice. The Students on the tours are there to make you want to go to the college. You need the truth.

First for students in choosing a college that they need to pick a college for the right reasons. They shouldn't go to a college in Hollywood just because it is located by a beach; but instead choose a college that's recommended for the degree. What kind of classroom do they want to learn in such as small of 20 students or lecture halls of 80? Also go to many different colleges. Students should pick at least three different colleges that are good for them and then visit them for themselves. Try to choose colleges that are good academically and socially; for instance colleges that offer many clubs and organizations or have teams for sports to be in. Being involved in clubs and sports make the college experience more fun and you meet a lot of new exciting people that you would have not before if you didn't join any of these extra things. Lastly if you can go to a two year, community college that can transfer credits to a four year college of your choice. later can save you or your parents a lot of money that way.
The teacher's personalities and ways of their teaching would be helpful prior to entering at Saint Rose. There are some professors that I felt were not my style in teaching and would have avoided them and took other classes. Also I wish I knew what teaching was like so I didn't enroll in teaching than switch to an English major. Then I would not have lost all that time and wasted classes.
Any one can attend this school that wants a small class environment of about 20 students. The student has to be willing to work hard for his or her degree because Saint Rose is good but tough on their students to get the best education possible. It's a career based school so the student would need to have the degree offered here.
