I have gotten a better understanding of the world around me and interactions of the people in it. I have also made many good friends and found mentors that helped me through difficult times and answered the tough questions. College has been a valuble expierence for me because I have learned a great deal about who I am, what I want to do for a career, and how to get to that point.

College has been one of the best experiences in my life. I didn't miss a single day of college in the four years that I attended. Coming out of a high school where my graduating class only had fifty students to a huge college was a shock for me. However, I slowly overcame that shock and started adapting to the lifestyle of college which included more freedom than I ever had. Of course you go to college for academic purposes and learn things you never knew before that stretch your mind and prepare you for your career, but you also learn how to responsibly handle all the freedoms that are given to you. Because of these reasons it is valuable to attend college, so that we can learn responsibilty get a good education and be prepared to enter the real unsheltered world.

When you are in high school it is hard to believe that college will be this entirely different world, like everyone tells you that it is. It turned out that everyone else was right. College life is the young adult's access to the mature adult's world. When I first started at the University of Texas in Arlington I felt timid and unprepared for this new challenge that I was about to take on. My brief time at the University has helped me to adapt comfortably to the college life. I quickly learned that there are so many people that actually want you to succeed and want to help you, but your job is to find those people. My peers have taught me more about myself than I knew before, my professor's passion for their subject makes me believe that every word coming out of their mouth is golden, and I have learned that I am the only source to my own success. I feel that I have grown so much in the short stature of time that I have attended UTA. I anticipate all of the wisdom and wonderment that my future at UTA will bring.

I quit school in December 2006, believing that my mission in life was too fast and that an academic pursuit would be a parachute to my life’s velocity. I left my academic goals at the steps of Stephen F. Austin State University and took on two jobs to live by my own aware/s. Lufkin was a quiet little town with trees over populating the human population ten-times over. Then one day, in early February, I received a phone call from my younger brother, to notify me that my father had just been released from the hospital because he had experienced another heart attack. I was stunned but also chagrinned because I was never informed about my father’s failing health. The next week I jumped on a bus to Fort Worth to tend to my sick Dad. I took care of him for a year and 7 months and in that time I applied to UT Arlington to complete my Bachelor degree. Since I’ve been here, I’ve acquired a moral campus, extended and cleared my horizons on a good trajectory to suit my life. I owe it to my Dad and education at UT Arlington.

College has taught me to be independent and fully aware of the opportunity I have being a college student. Through all the seminars that I've attended, I've learned that a higher education after high school is absolutely necessary and paramount for survival in the future. I went into college thinking that it was more of a process rather than a chance to grow. I value my attendance at my university because of the enlightenment it gave me of the opportunity I have been given, the chance to grow, and the increasing passion I have obtained for my major. Through research studies I have participated in, I’ve learned more and explored in depth information about my major that has motivated me to work even harder next semester. I’ve learned through my attendance that a higher education is a tool to not only become a professional, to survive in the future, but also a way to excel.

I feel that my college experience has been invaluable. I have not only learned about history, literature, biology, etc. but also about who I am as a person. My college years have allowed me to evaluate my beliefs, goals, and future. These vital years of my education have allowed me to determine what career I would like to pursue. I have decided to apply to dental hygiene school but I don't think I could have made that decision without some time at my local community college. My experience there gave me the resources and time to figure out what I want out of a career. I now feel equipped to take my future by the horns and succeed!

Evan

College has encouraged me to stay focused and has made me even more determined to succeed than when I graduated from high school. My classes have forced me develop new study habits in order to adapt to the college lifestyle. The lessons I have learned are unique to the college experience and have made my time spent on campus invaluable.

pearl

I have learned to be open minded. I have always wanted to be a writer my english 0101 class is preparing for an exciting experience to write. I wrote 4 essays and one review to demonstrate my growth in this class. I enjoyed the input my instructor gave me. In my sociology class my class mates were students that participated and I learned a lot. My professor was well informed on every topic we discussed. I came in the class with many issue's I needed to resolve; my instructors were able to give a foundation to work out any problem I encountered. My classes were tailor made for me at this time in my life when I need something in my career to change. The opportunity to receive new books with updated information in them to instruct new students on what to expect from society in the work world. My vision in life is to continue to receive an education as long as I can, the importance of the world having people who understand that each generation changes and new knowledge is constantly being distributed to the business world. all of duty to assist the students.

Damian

For the first semester of the 2010/2011 academic year, so far I've achieved sucess in passing my classes, and bonding with new students to form life-long relationships.

Kathryn

The beauty of education is that it never stops. Choosing and getting into the right school is the toughest part. With enough enthusiasum I've noticed even the heaviest semesters have been the most rewarding. I can even say that the relationships I've built from dorms, classes, work, or even sitting at the library have been some of the longest lasting relationships thus far of my life. In college you have the freedom to be yourself, whomever that is, and find out what it is that you want to do. I've taken the vow to be a student forever, let not the end of college be the end of my learning curve.

Tatyana

My college experiece has been really great. I have learned a lot about myself so far, like how much I need to change my study habits to become a better student and that going to college is going to help me on my way of being able to do what I want to do in the future.

Daniel

I could have went to a local, 4-year university. I could have majored in Business, and, later, work in corporate America. I could have never lived in a city besides Philadelphia. I chose to move to Los Angeles, California. Currently, I attend Santa Monica College, majoring in Film Studies. Six months ago, I tremendously felt that film was my niche. However, I've learned that college is about discovering aspects about yourself. That seems quite obvious, yet, had I never taken film classes, I would have never watched documentaries about political, environmental, and global issues. My film professor quoted Ghandi, "Be the change you want to see in this world." I realized that I am not meant to entertain the world, but to help change it for the better. Majoring in social science will allow me to study local, state, and global problems and explore the possible solutions. Helping others is what I want to do. College helped me learn that.

Omar

I believe that a college attendance is not only essential, but also instrumental for the 21 century. Life with only a high school degree is not even valuable for the based economy we are in, as statistics mentions higher numbers of employers are starting to promote jobs to only people with a starting attendance of 2 year of college. Also, College is needed for the higher understanding of the foundation of life, for example health and medicine, but also to the social connection we as homo-sapiens species interact with, like legal or business or social understanding. My experience during my years in college has proven to be the groundwork of my understanding of the world we live in, in both a manner of philosophical, practical, and social sense. College experience of Higher education has giving me an availability of the comprehension of many source of basic knowledge in all fields of life fundamentals, like history, math, music, philosophy, medicine, ext, which lights up the world of darkness which ignorance surrounds us in our live.

Ariana

I've been in college for one semester and one of the most important things I've learned so far is how to be responsible and make my own decisions. Also, after joinging organizations, I've discovered the value of networking with companies that could be my future career, which is extremely useful for an electrical engineer. The University of Texas at Arlington is the perfect fit for me because I get all the experiences of what going away to college is all about, but I'm also close to home, so I can go see my family when I or they need me to. I also have set goals for myself that I will never give up on, like I will graduate with a degree in engineering because no one in my family has before. One thing I find motivating is when I tell people that I want to be an electrical engineer, their first response is that it sounds difficult and not much like a job a woman would enjoy. That makes me want to accomplish my goal all the more, especially here at UTA where a degree in EE is very competitive in the real world.

Gretchen

I have gained a fascination with science from my college experience along with the discovery that I have an aptitude for math. I always believed myself to be a sub par math student when I was in high school. I thought that I just wasn't wired to understand numbers. Since I have been attending Columbus State Community College, I realize that it probably wasn't all my fault that I didn't get math in high school. It probably had a lot to do with the teaching style since we only had one teacher for all four years. I have breezed through my math courses the last two years, and couldn't be happier with my professors. Having conquered my math fears has allowed me to continue on with science courses. I have rediscovered the wonder of science. I love to know how and why about everything.

Ashley

I have received a quality education from highly educated professors who are educated in their fields. I have also had the opportunity to take classes with a myriad of diverse cultures of people who I would not normally associate with, yet they provide insightful input to the classes. It has been a valuable experience because I have taken many classes that pertain to my major/minor and will help me in my future. Overall, even though the school is small and not as prestigious as some other schools, I believe I have received a good education and will be pleased with my degree when I receive it.

Romi

Right out of high school, I attended a year of college but then quit. I then got a job, got married, and had two children. My Navy husband and I moved several times, even spending time overseas. My husband retired from the Navy several years ago, and my children are now grown and in college themselves. I have always worked to support my family but thought for a long time about going back to school to fulfill a dream of obtaining a college degree. I have worked in law for 25 plus years, so a logical first step was to work towards obtaining a paralegal certificate. I entered an accelerated evening program and surprised myself how well I did, earning very high marks. Now, I am in back in school part-time and continue to work, but am eager to achieve my goal of a degree in psychology. I am, in fact, the sole supporter for my family with my husband in grad school. Money is tight. A scholarship would allow me to continue school without having to worry so much about the expense. Please consider awarding me a Campus Discovery scholarship to help me achieve my goals. Thank you!

What I have gotten from my college experience is the idea that everything is not handed to you. In college its up to you to get your work done and make sure your grades stay on top. Everything is fast-paced and you have to keep up are you will be left behind. It is valuable to attend any college because it is a great experience and although its hard it does pay off in the long run.

Rebecca

By attending community college I have been able to save money by living at home while working towards my degree. I am taking classes in order to receive my Associate's Degree and also classes that pertain to my major and I feel that is extremely important. Community college is immeasurably valuable because it allows me to save money while continuing my education and it prepares me for a bigger campus and my future career.

Nabin

I have been in college since Jan of 2004 and i am still in school and am about to finish school on 2011 spring semester. i have always been a hard worker and a very honest student. Even though i have dedicated every inch of my energy and time to school somehow it was never enough. I am still in school and what i have experienced during school is that everyone must be patient and dedicated all the way to school. While attending UTA i have realized that even though i was not financially capable to pay my tuition fees it was still worthwhile to attend the college because of its prestigious reputation and its tremendous resources and help from faculty members.

People say that there are things in the world that can't be always controlled well, after my college experience so for I say that is wrong. What I have gotten out of my college experiecne is a sence of belonging, the excitement and opertunities. I have made so many new friends that I feel like I am a part of the university not just another student. Also the oragnizations at the university almost always have events planned that I get very excited to come to school. Thus by going to these events I have met many people that help me jobs and Internship opertunities. Thus I will value my college experience for the rest of my life.

Growing up, I didn't have the traditional childhood experiences. My parents were of the strict variety, and we lived in a secluded area about 45 minutes away from school. So, I was never at sleepovers, birthday parties, or recreational outings, and I never had many friends. When I got to the university, I was ecstatic, to say the least. There were so many people, so many new experiences, so many opportunities, and so few rules. My parents weren’t there to tell me when to, what to, or how to do something, so I took advantage and did little of anything. I foolishly thought that scheduling friendly dates over studying, and using the same techniques I used in high school could still get me all the way through college. About half way into the semester, I was in for a HUGE surprise: I was failing. Since then, I’ve learned to put on my “big girl shoes”, and deal with life head on. Through a slow process of trial and error, I was able to get my life, and academics back on course. College is teaching me how to survive, and I’m proud of it.

Nichole

I am a returning student with an Accosiates in Nursing. The most important thing I have gotten from college is my career. I am very grateful for the opportunities that are available to me because I have a degree. I am excited to have returned to college to further my education and open up new opportunities.

Hilary

Being a student at UTA, I have made many new friends, and have learned how to live on my own as a responsible adult. There are so many opportunities to volunteer, join clubs and organizations, and so much more! UTA has helped me make a difference in my life, as well as the lives of those around me. There are always free functions to attend that broaden our skills and learning abilities, and the staff are extremely helpful in this area too. Nobody on campus doesn't want to see me succeed, and it feels wonderful to know that, with that enthusiasm and encouragement, I will succeed!

Nanci

I believe that is really important to have an education because I see my parents strugle on a daily basis and I don't want to suffer what they have suffered. My mom always told me that knowledge is the key for the future. No one can take away what I learn that is way college is very important. The only problem that we have is financing my education.

Sha'Londa

College is not easy! It take a lot more focus than I thought . I just want to focus on school, graduate (without the having to worry about how I am going to pay for my education) and start working on a career I enjoy.

Amlan

The most valuable take-away from my college education is my teaching experience as a graduate instructor with independent class responsibilities. This allowed me to experiment and improve on my teaching skills, and try to become a better teacher every day, day after day. I also enjoyed the interactions with my students, and that helped me learn also, in trying to answer their questions. Being passionate about teaching, and feedback from my students as to how I was doing, made me want to keep teaching as long as I can. This continuous improvement that I experienced as a teacher, helped me tremedously in getting my current faculty position at a community college. I owe this to my students who were my major source of motivation to excel, some instructors in the college who were my role models for excellence in teaching, and the department which gave me the opportunity to teach.

Laura

So far college had been a great experience not only the evironment is calm but also meet people who you are going know forever. The people you meet have the probably the same values as you. It been valueable to attend because not only you are getting closer your degree but opens you to new ways of thinking. Of course the coursework is way different than high school but woth it in the end.

Carla

My college experience at UTA has been wonderful. There are many things that I have learned like all the competition there is, life isn't easy, and it's not all partying and fun. I am studying to be a nurse and there is a lot of competition to get in the nursing school. At UTA , I have learned we have to try our best and be better than others if we want to accomplish our goals. Growing up my parents always did everything for me and it made life seem easy. Now I know that I have to do stuff on my own if I want to make it in life. I will have to be responsible and hardworking to have my wants and needs. Before I attended UTA people would say that college was all about parties and having fun but instead I had to study a lot and be focused in school. It has been very valuable to attend college because I learned a lot more things that i didn't know about life. If I continue to go to school I will be full of knowledge and work as a nurse like I have always wanted.

College is a place where students mature, grow, and excel in life. Through my college career, I have fervently learned persistence, patience, and dedication. College is not always effortless; there is a time for fun, but also a time for hard work and dedication. It requires the student to think towards the future; how do I want to be remembered as? Do I want to make a difference? I have found my answers at the University of Texas at Arlington. I have learned to make wise decisions, and set further goals for me to achieve in my life. I believe I have learned to never give up, any matter how hard the class, how strict the teacher, or how tough the project.

Amanda

In my time as a student, at UTA, I have had the chance to be enlightened by the most inspiring professors around. They have opened my eyes to what has shaped my world, and my social identity. They have shown me how to creatively articulate my interpretations of these ideologies, all the while being able to back my findings with credible support. When I refer to creativity, I am not merely suggesting that my ability to create completely new concepts or analytical perceptions of ideologies has come unhinged. I am suggesting that they have shown me how to understand the ideologies that structure our world. I am able to recognize through a feminine scope the texts that uphold these dominant patriarchal ideologies. In my career I hope to offer some enlightenment to the students out there who were not aware of the ideologies that are surrounding our everyday life. My goal is to give to other students the eye-opening skills that my current professors have given me. I hope to give students the ability to not just read a text, but to also understand the social constructs surrounding every text.

Ashley

I have enjoyed beng a part of a big university and being able to pursue my educational goals.

Christoher

I like my school. It is a pretty big school but not so big that you don?t see your friends walking around campus at the same time. There are a ton of student organizations to be a part of. I have met 80{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of my friends through these. I am involved in multiple student organizations on campus. When the fall semester starts up again, I will be a cadet sergeant in the Army ROTC Maverick Battalion which I been a part of for two years. I was on my Dormitory Hall Council for two years as well. The Hall Council is a group of resident volunteers that promote community involvement within their dorm by putting on different events throughout the school year. This past semester I became a member of the fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon. I joined the peer-mentoring program UTA Hosts and I am looking forward to helping two freshmen become accustomed to college life and get them involved in some of the many on-campus organizations. I love all my experiences at UTA. The education is great and I love all my friends.

Nidaa

I have gotten so many things out of my college experience at UTA that it's almost hard to describe it in 200 words! Firstly, I have gained so many relationships wether it be with fellow students or professors. Students and professors at UTA are kind, friendly, and are the type of people that look out for you. Before entering UTA, I had my "best friends", but they all went their seperate ways. At UTA, the people that I have met and befriended have completely filled that void. Secondly, another important thing that I have gained from my experience at UTA is a sense of respect for not only my professors, but all professors in general. I have always heard up to entering college that professors are mean, bitter, and dont care about you or your grades, but that was proven wrong when I entered UTA. The past two semesters at UTA, I was blessed with caring and intellegent professors. I was able to build quick relationships with all my professors.

Candace

My college experience gave me the opportunity to experience cultural diversity. I also experienced intellectual growth academically and socially. Also attending college prepared me to enter the work force by the simulation of group projects that modeled real world work place circumstances. During my college experience I also learned how to meet deadlines, be focused, and driven to achieve goals even if they seem unattainable. I also learned how to perform projects with a high degree of integrity. The decision to further my education is valuable to me because I feel that knowledge is the key to having a successful and promising career and future. Furthermore, my college experience is also valuable because it provided internship opportunities that prepared me to successfully enter the job market.

Catherine

For years, I had heard of the experience. Getting involved in organizations, upholding leadership positions, living on campus, choosing schedule days and times, challenging yourself with rigorous course wok, and the all time favorite of eating practically whenever you so chose, was only halfof it. Now that I am actually living the experience, I now can add on to the other half. As a current full time freshmen in college, I have enjoyed participating in campus wide organizations as well as in smaller committees. I love the conveniency of living on campus and I take pride in supporting such a diversified community. But most of all, I appreciate my learning experience. The University of Texas at Arlington has dedicated faculty and staff that strive to make student's education as rewarding as possible and for this I am grateful. I know of no better university that encourages learning with the intensity that UT Arlington does. I truly value my choice of attending this university because I know that it will prepare me for the road ahead. UT Arlington prepares its students for success; failure is not an option. I cherish all that is offered, all learning opportunities, and all experiences.

Bridget

I learned a myriad of things in college. In addition to things of an academic nature, I learned life skills. I learned to never limit yourself or assume you cannot reach your goals. I learned to accept and value other people that may be different from you in many ways. I learned to aim high and always give your best effort; you never know what you can achieve until you try. I learned that people are generally all the same; we want to succeed, be want to feel safe, and we want to be loved. Being a student is not just about studying and going to class, it's about engaging yourself in a world you will only experience for a few years. You have to make the most of it and take chances. Most importantly, do not resist inevitable change. You cannot grow if you resolve to stay the same.

Monica

I have gotten out of my college experience to be a person who is determined to work hard for what I want in life. Life is not easy but it worth living. My college experience has let me view life in a different aspect, and has lead me to believe that very thing is possible. It has been valuable to attend college because I have learn many things that now help me face the problems in life. I am independant and responsible. College gives a person knowledge, something no one can ever take away, and knowledge is power.

Kimberli

My total college learning experience has been a journey. I have developed and trully have obtained wisdom. Traveling away from home for the first time was, I have to admit, was scary, but I have met some incredible people along the way. Attending the University of Texas at Arlington has helped shaped my values and outlook on life. I try not take things for granite anymore and count all of my blessings. Coming to college, I was honestly undecided what I wanted to do, but over time I have developed a passion for children and now have decided to go into education to become a Math teacher. After teaching for a couple of years, I wish to start my own school focusing on of course, academic excellence, but the needs of students emotionally due to their various environments, and creative arts. I hope to help students world wide to be successful and reach for the sky without limits.

Rykeil

Through my college experieced i have learned the importance of the health field and i have learned more than what i thought i would know. I think it has been vauable to attend because it will help me get a good job in a hospital to care for the needy. I have also learned the policy and laws that apply in the health care field too. It is very important that i follow these rules so that i wont hurt anyone and also get myself into trouble.

sarah

I have come to realize that paying for my own college without the help of family members is something to be proud of. I realize that adequate education is important to aiding life goals. In my short 2 years in college, I have learned not only to gain knowledge, but to gain character to help me be a positive impact on our society.

Amanda

If I could go back in time and give myself advice as a high school senior, I would tell myself to live at home with my mom and save my money. I was so eager to prove myself as an individual that I ended up waisting my money on rent, car payments, and other bills that may have been avoided if I would have stayed home. It would be so much easier to get through college without having to worry about a mortgage. Not only did I waste money, I also wasted precious time. When you live on your own you spend more time working for someone else than yourself in order to pay the bills. Had I stayed home, I would probably now be a college graduate with a promising career.

David

If I were able to go back in time and talk to my naive senior self I would have many recommendations to say. The first recommendation is to use online rating sites or fellow peers to find the best professor for your learning style. Each professor and each student are different, and some would have benefited me more than the one I chose. The second is to join a student organization and be active in it. Not only would you make friends, but you would have more connections with students and faculty across campus. Third, visit your professors during their office hours. They will more time to help you if you have any problems and might be more forgiving in giving you that one extra point on an assignment. The last advice I would give is to not wait an entire semester to find out a very good friend?s name.

Armando

If I could go back in time to my senior year in high school and advise myself I would have given myself the following account: Armando (today): "Armando, it is imperative that you hear what I have to say because your college experience depends on it. Education is a wonderful tool which will provide your foundation for the rest of your life and that is why it's important you give yourself the best experience possible. As a high school student you have the luxury of living financially carefree, but do not be naive as you well know your parents will not be able to bear the financial burden of a higher education. Begin by contacting your financial aid office at the school of your choice as they are a great source for information regarding scholarships and grants. It is also important that you keep an open mind because you will encounter people with different lifestyles and different ways of thinking; being judgemental is ignorant. Be vigiliant in your pursuit of an education and do not give way to silly temptations which will only delay you. Stay the course and you will succeed." Armando (then): "Uhh...thanks, Armando"

Lori

As an older American returning to school, I would tell myself to stay focused and learning at a higher institution is not a unstructured as high school. I would tell myself that the benefits of continuing eduction would have saved many years of hard knocks; working at minimum wage and living paycheck to paycheck. The investment now of delayed gratification of a job and income will pay off exponentially in the future. College life on campus can be as social or serious as you want. Making the transition from high school to college (immediately following) is a growth opportunity and a challenge to become disciplined and focused. As an older student now, I have the enjoyment as a mentor yet still embracing the youth and energy on campus. As a high school senior, make a successful transition by finding a strong mentor. Whether in a dorm or in your classrooms or in advising; look forward to the experience the next 4 years will provide. You'll thank yourself for it. (Lori Kohler)

Delia

Dear Delia,

joshua

Actually just go to college NOW! My family held me back, then my social economic position in the world held me back. I just make myself go then

Kristen

If I could talk to myelf as a high school student I would encourage me to not get lazy and give up. I was involved in the International Baccaleurate program at my school and was in the top 10{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of my class, so I thought that I did not have to try on my SAT or IB tests becuase I was automatically accepted into any state school anyways. However, becuase I did not adequatley prepare for my SAT and IB tests I did not get some scholarship money that i could have gotten to pay for school. I did not take that into consideration when I was a senior, and i really wish I would have.
