UTEP is known for believing in the potential of every student, there are active movements to remove financial and educational barriers from going to college. It is a double edged sword in that it helps in economic mobility, but also holds behind high achieving students in early basic coursework.

Sandra

Unfortunately for me my school is best known for its bussiness and engineering programs. It is a great school if anyone intends to go into those areas. In my area health sciences it definitely lacks but it continues to improve. The engineering program has been ranked among the top ten in the nation. For the business program it has been ranked at least once top 3 in the nation. This is quite impressive for such small school and a school so unique as this one.

The University of Texas at El Paso is hugely known for its hispanic population, having a 99{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} hispanic percentage. Even more thorough though, UTEP is more so seen as a place that truly cares about finding a way to help kids make their dreams come true. For example, UTEP has taken it in their power to help and allow Juarez, Mexico students join UTEP as a source for higher learning. Through a lot of schools, that I see, care more about money, UTEP truly cares more about it students and how it can help people in general.

On March 19, 1966, coach Don Haskins won the NCAA title with his team. They made a movie about it. But UTEP is now known as an accesible university, where many people turn to for higher education. Not many people know that the atmosphere of living alongside a very active city makes people more friendly. UTEP is known for its excelence in bringing education to more and more people every day.

Its high hispanic attendance. About 75{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the student population is hispanic, so the environment has a great difference from other universities. Because of its quality of education, and its high rate of hispanic students, UTEP has being considered twice the best school for hispanics, according to the Hispanic Bussines magazine.

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is mostly known for two things: its high percentage of Hispanic students (more than 70{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the students are Latinos) and the fact that the majority of students who apply to the institution are admitted into this university. This is because UTEP's mission is to provide an education that is both accessible and excellent.

I think the 1966 College Basketball championship game where Don Haskins played a team of mostly African-American players and won the championships is probably what most people know about our university. But we are working very hard to become known as a prestigious research institution. We are in the process of working towards tier one research institution status. We are increasingly being recognized for winning major research grants and opening up research opportunities to a wide range of students from different backgrounds and socio-economic statuses. So, we are making much progress towards being known for our research.

My school is best known for it's Engineering programs and heavy Hispanic influence, being a border city. Although often times unrecognized, the English dept and Education programs are quality with amazing professors that actually take the time to understand how each student learns and practicalities in the subjects being taught. The school is growing every month, buildings and new parking lots are added, but it really is the student's that make this El Chuco (El Paso's nickname) school unique and strong in it's own way, despite the unresolved violence from Juarez, the neighboring city.

Ana
