The University of the Arts Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Tim

I wish I had a more open mind. Not that I didn't previously, but I felt I could've opened my head and ears up to more things. Use more of your ears and less of your head.

Paul

I wish I would have known how intensely theoretical the discussions about my major would be, and how often concepts got in the way of doing the actual work itself. I wish I would have known how expensive it is to be an artist.

One thing I had wished I'd haven know before I got here was that The University of the Arts was a private school, I never found this information easily on their website. Being a private school, tuition rates remain constant (actually increase by a small degree) every year instead of decreasing with in-state residency. Thankfully the school is generous with scholarships, but careful budgeting may be critical for those interested in attending.

Natalie

I wish I would have known more about the city of Philadelphia. It's been great discovering new restaurants and places to hang out, but I wish I would have known more, so I could take advantage of every theatre, musuem and festival Philadelphia has to offer.

Melissa

As an animation major, having a wider knowledge of the Adobe programs would have been helpful in starting out at school, so that I would be able to immediately dive into experimenting with different animation programs. University of the Arts has such a vast array of technology available for it's animators and I would love to take advantage of that as soon as possible.

I believe that I entered college with the levels of knowledge and wisdom that were meant for me at that time. I do, however, wish that I had known how stressful college life can be and thus, been able to mentally prepare more whilst still in high school. The busy schedule and increased responsibilities are just two aspects of college that differ from high school, yet, are fundamental building blocks in the development and transition of a teenager to a young adult. I would've felt better, though, knowing all this beforehand!

Gretchen

I wish I researched the outside internship opportunities. My fellow students that seemed to do the best post graduation meet great connections through their internships that helped springboard them. As a young, transfer student I did not know to take advantage of these professional resources.

Elisabeth

More about Residential Life and the classes I should have taken last year, but don't have any room for this year.

How to play music. All of the people here really know what they're talking about. I wish I was more knowledgable before I came here. But, that;s what college is for right?

Geovanny

How much it was going to actually cost me.

Ashley

I wish I had taken advantage of more social gatherings rather than just hanging out with my roommate. The University of the Arts has so many opportunities for networking and collaboration.

Nicholas

The lack of interest in sports, athletics, and "typical" youth interests.

Heather

I feel that I was well-informed about my school. I cannot think of anything that I didn't know that I wish I had.

Miguel

some of the people who go here are very die hard artist who come form a rich background of art. another thing would of been to try my best in everything.
