What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Go visit the campus. Set up an appointment to meet with the head of whatever program or study field of interest. Get a tour of the facilities. Try the food (just incase). Look over the class lists for your major and make sure they sound interesting to you. Enjoy the school you pick!

What's unique about your campus?

I fell in love with the sheer amount of nature on the campus. I love all the trees and the winding service roads around the fields. I love all the bikes and people riding them, reading underneath the trees, and sitting on the dock with some friends. Just the sheer beauty of it all... it makes going to class not as dreadful as it could be.

Don't let your students put it off, the longer you wait the harder it is to start back up and do a good job. Your education is the best gift you can give yourself. If you have to flip burgers so you can live in a decent place while you're going to school, do it, it's all worth it in the end. Life's too short to put your education on hold.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

it's built on a nature park, nice surroundings with lots of trails, great teachers

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

College is for students. Choose a place that makes you happy, not one that pleases someone else. You will become your own person, find your own way of doing things, and experience new ideas and opinions. Your choice of where to go to college will influence the rest of your life. No one should make the choice for you. Remember that it's okay to ask for help. The faculty and staff will be there to help you, and your fellow students can be great resources. But don't believe everything people say! Doing research on your own will help you make the decision that's best for you. Have fun! College is one of the most amazing things you will ever experience. Never neglect your school work, and do whatever the professor suggests you to do to prepare for class, but don't forget to leave your room! There are so many fun things to do in the world and here's your chance to try them! Most of all, RELAX! You've got four years to figure out what you want from the world. Don't be afraid to change anything!

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

It's very difficult to find our way around at first. The campus has so many trees and the maps aren't to scale so everything seems different when you're walking around trying to find classes. The buildings are also numbered in the order they were built so it appears as though there is no logical number system, which can make locating specific buildings difficult.

What kind of person should not attend this school?

Someone who needs people around all the time and requires lots of parties shouldn't go here. It's a fairly quiet campus, especially on weekends, because so many people commute or live nearby, so they usually go home instead of hang around. The city is also military oriented, so many places are closed by midnight, and the few clubs close at 2 or 3 am.

Don't always go with the first college that interest you. Get started early, take your time, and visit as many colleges as possible to get a feel of the college life.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before I came to UWF, I wish I would've researched it a little bit more. Its not the school I need to go to for my particular major.

What kind of person should attend this school?

Anybody that loves a relaxed atmosphere and no crowds should go to the University of West Florida
