What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

Tiara

I am not sure of one common stereotype, but frequently I hear about athletes, business majors, and education majors.

The main stereotype is that my school is a "white school", meaning it is predominantly made up of Caucasian students. However, this is not very true, Towson University is very diverse and there are, in my opinion, a lot of different races, ethnic groups and cultures represented at Towson.

Horiol

Some stereotypes at my school include that a lot of students are alcoholic and that all they do is party. They are party animals. Another common stereotype that I hear sometimes is that people that attend Towson University have money and are pretty affluent.

Colin

beautiful women, hipsters and stoners.

Jeeze, where do I begin. Just because we left high school, doesn't mean the stereotypes left too. We have our frat kids that have their own stereo types, like this one sorority (not naming them purely because I don't remember their name) is known for having girls that are easy. We do have our jocks and our nerds, our stoners, our emo's, etc. Some of them are pretty accurate, while others fall into gray area. I know plenty of stoners who are really smart and are headed to great things in life. I also know of a kid that suppresses his feelings and gets to the point where he cuts himself. I know people that drink all the time and are failing/not going to classes. I know nerds that freak themselves out over getting Bs and think their failing and I know the suck ups that try to be teachers pet. I also know of nerds that like to let loose once in a while and will drink or smoke, not too drastically, but it happens. Basically, college stereotypes are just like high school, some people live up to them while others don't. Some people can fall into more than one stereotype, but that stereotype doesn't control you.

The stereotypes I see include Frat guys and stuck-up sorority girls. The Frat guys are seen as wild, unintelligent, rude, and mean. The sorority girls are seen as the "cheerleader type." Sorority girls are often viewed as high strung, judgmental, unintelligent, and high maintenance. I do not think that these stereotypes are accurate. Many different types of people join fraternities and sororities and the stereotypes only accurately depict a select few of them.

Wendy

The stereotypes at our school aren't extremely prominent but we do have active sororities and fraternities that are active around campus. Some students may be turned off by this because they think they dominate campus but they certainly do not. I often see a group of students in the band hanging out or a group of students doing skateboarding tricks. People may stereotype these groups, but it is just people with the same interests hanging out!

Enobong

I would say jocks are the most common stereotypes at Towson University

Adonna

Common stereotypes of our students is most girls are fake, the boys are players, most students dress the same. The first 2 stereotypes are inaccurate and for the 3rd one, most students wear the same brand of clothing.

Ninna

The most common stereotypes about Towson is that it is a party school; so when people hear this they make the assumption that all the students at Towson are party animals which is inaccurate. We know at all colleges students party but what I have noticed at Towson is that for most students, the majority of their time is spent in the library studying and trying to keep up with their school work.

The two biggest stereotypes about Towson is that it's the second-choice school for Maryland residents who aren't accepted to the University of Maryland and that it's the school where all of the spray-tanned orange, Northface-wearing, party loving Jersey girls go. They're both pretty accurate if you take a look around. But you'll find that some orange Jersey girls are total sweethearts if you give them a chance. And most of the students who come here as a second-choice school end up falling in love with it. There are so many student groups and subcultures at Towson, at a school with 20,000 students everyone is bound to find a group of students who are just their style.

Bethany

The stereotype is that Towson is full of partying. This is not true, although a lot of students here do party often there is also a lot of students who do other things on the weekends like participate in clubs, sporting events etc.

Aryelle

To me, I don't find there is a stereotype nor has there been one. Towson University is too diverse of a school to have a major stereotype. I mean of course there are individual stereotypes within the groups on campus, such as, certain clubs are smarter than others or one club on accepts pretty girls ect. Overall, this is a pretty normal campus, nothing stands out to be a major stereotype.

Tyler

The most common stereo type here at Towson is the bunch of party girls, who are generally from New Jersey, and known to wear North Face jackets and Ugg boots. This stereotype is only partially accurate - yes it seems to be the fashion sense but there are many committed students here at Towson - though they like to have fun.

Bianca

The only stereotype I have ever heard of is that the girls at Towson University are "Hot" or very good looking. I have also heard some people say that all of the girls wear uggs and north face jackets. While there are a lot of girls like this, this is simply not true for everyone. So many people go to Towson University, there is a great diversity and you will for sure find a group of people that fit into your lifestyle.

At Towson the stereotypical attire for females is Ugg boots and leggings. This is true to an extent but you'll also see lots of rainboots since it rains a lot especially during the spring.

Michelle

There is said to be typical long island stereotype at our school and they are labeled as sorority members. Even though there are many long island students, it does not mean that they are "mean" girls. Besides this one stereotype I hear often, I think the school has a variety of "groups" where students will find their direction of where they fit in more.

Michelle

Personally I don't believe that there are any blatant stereotypes noticible at Towson! I see a great variety of every culture and type of student that you could think of! Along with being very culturally diverse, Towson also has student organizations for every type of student to be a.part of! To me, Towson is very unbias and does not have any serious stereotypes.

Jessica

Because Towson University is such a large school there are many stereotypes. One stereotype that most boys seem to like is that Towson has a lot of pretty girls. Another one is that it is a lot of fun and people always enjoy themselves when they attend or visit Towson. Academically we are a good school and work hard.

Zachary

When I was telling people I was going to school at Towson most of them would say that it was a party school and yes there are plenty of people who party here at Towson. But there are also plenty of people who do not go out to party. I have plenty of fun not going out to parties as well as going to them. The school offers plenty of activities and events to go to if you are not into the party scene. So Towson offers something for everyone so don't let what some people would say about the partying here deter you from applying.

Amanda

At Towson, most people think that the girls all come from New Jersey, wear Northface jackets with leggings and Uggs and are in a sorority. Of course most people think that all the boys get drunk Sunday-Saturday, are rushing or in a frat, and spend all their time lifting weights at the gym. Also, most people think Towson is almost completely White/Caucasian. This is NOT accurate! Towson students come from every state in the U.S. as well as dozens of countries around the world. Towson has a diverse student body population, and student groups that include almost every ethnic background (i.e.: the Black Student Union, Latin American Student Organization, ect). The Greek Life organizations are a big part on campus, but there are plenty of non-Greek groups as well. We are a Division 1 school in most sports and we also have a lot of Recreation competition teams, but our marching band is one of THE best in the country and academics are a major priority. There is no "Towson mold" because every student brings something unique to campus.

jessica

I would say there is no "stereotype" at towson. There are a wide range of students on Towsons campus. Greek life is very popular, there are many invloved in TU sports, both towsons and the various club teams. There are many students from New York and New Jersey and of course Maryland.
