Umpqua Community College Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Cassie

I have few complaints about the school itself. The campus is located far from where I live, but as this area is rather rural, it should come as no surprise that my commute is 40 minutes one way. I am an optimist to a fault, most of the time. I try not to dwell on things that bother me, and rather reflect on the positive. If I had to choose something, however, the campus could certainly use some updating! Many of the facilities are rather old, and in a technology field, being up-to-date is important!

I would consider the worst thing about my school would be the socio-economic status of the community it is located in. The school itself deals with lots of poverty and students from disadvantaged backgrounds. There is no shame in this type of background, and the whole point is empowerment. I can just see the struggle of the school to meet the needs of students who are trying to come out of poverty. It's actually a much needed thing in the community, but it can make it hard for the college to function at it's best level.

The worst thing would have to be either the parking or the lack of good on-campus food. There's a cafeteria, some food in the bookstore, and a couple of vending machines... I went to a few other CC options before ending up here & all had much better variety and prices. As for the parking, well, there's not enough of it & all of the spaces are on one extreme side of the campus, so you'll end up walking a lot to get anywhere.

My major gripe is the hills it is built on, it can be kinda hazardous during winter.

The worst thing I consider about Umpqua Community College is it is such a diverse community of students that it is extremely hard to find students around my age that have the same interests as me.

Jessica

The worst thing about Umpqua Community College is how liberal it is becoming. The student government and the administration is becoming increasingly difficult to work with. There has also been a large increase in the number of students, so classes have gotten crowded and parking has become difficult to the point of impossibility.
