I think the best thing about my community college would be the availability and passion of the professors. I have met with so many professors outside of class and they genuinely care about my success and interests. I still have professors that continue to check in with me. They make sure I have what I need for success even though I haven't been in their class for many terms. There are some professors that are so passionate that it can't help but inspire you to learn with passion.
The teachers are intelligent, knowledgeable and involved with this students. They try to bring out the best in their students, encourage students to seek out additional knowledge and put in 100% effort to help their students succeed.
One of the best things is the one on one attention you can get from instructors, another is the location because it is close to home and the ever expanding idealism of being a part of a community college in your very own community.
UCC has one thing that I have not found anywhere else, a wide range of experience level. I am taking second year engineering course with high school seniors all the way to retired engineering staff that are just taking a class to fil the time. Everyone is working together, the young guys keep everyone fresh on their math skills, whyall the retiree shows the shortcuts they learns during their carreer. It combines to give a quick feild tested application , and the knowlege of why it work at the same time.
The best thing about UCC is how local it is and how accessible it is to everyone in the county. There have also been a lot of recent improvements to the campus, such as adding parking spaces, repaving the sidewalks, and adding more classes for the influx of students that we have had recently. There have also been additions to the staff to handle the increases. Overall, everything is handled very well and the faculty are very accomodating and helpful.
The college is local and offers a lot of programs that are useful to the local people as well as programs that help young people go on to universities. Most of the teachers that I have worked with are helpful and really care about the students. The campus is also beautiful well laid out. However, my favorite thing about Umpqua Community College is the opportunities that it offers: the classes, the internships, and the jobs.
