What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Although you are going to be an art student, give yourself sufficient time to sleep. Also, do not forget that a social life is important to keep up! You can make good work and still balance sleep and friends, but it will be difficult. Pay attention to tornado warnings, but trust that the Lord will work all things to your good, because He will! Get very involved in your department and church, because these friends will lift you up when you need support. Also, travel! When you have a break, see some of America--and sleep!

What's unique about your campus?

The school spirit and unity is very significant; I have been encouraged and inspired by it. The community of internationals and missionary kids draws me in, providing me with familiarities from home (I grew up as a missionary kid in Africa). I have also found the art department to be a wonderful learning environment, and that is a main reason why I chose Union University.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

Union has a very strong sense of purpose and spirit, largely due to its recovery after the tornado that seriously damaged our campus two years ago. It offers a wide variety of disciplines to a student body made up of many nationalities and cultures; I very much enjoy the international aspect of my school. I also highly value Union's values and the desire of its faculty to pursue the best that God has to offer students in a strong education grounded on Biblical principles. Friends of mine have graduated to attend prestigious medical schools and jobs.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would have told myself to pick a different major. I enjoyed Psychology but you cannot get a job in it. If I could do it over I would have major in History and prepared to teach High School/Middle School History.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Union University costs way too much!

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

The classes are small which give you a really great student-teacher ratio. The dorms are incredible; they are essentially appartments each with four seperate rooms, two bathrooms, a kitchenette, and a living room. The teachers here really care about their students and get to know them each by name. They are experts in their feild. The university strives to and succeedes at upholding their commitment to students and their missions statement as a university.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Greek life is not all it's cracked up to be, you will find other things, many things, to do even if you are not in a sorority. Keep working hard, it's not as bad the first two years as everybody makes it out to be, but you still gotta work hard.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The financial aide department is overwhelmed with students because let's face it, shcool is darn expensive, so it was hard to get information from them in a timely manner, but they do work with students and try their best to do whatever it takes to keep them at the school.

I probably would have told myself to attend college right after high school no matter where I had to go because transferring is always an option.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Visit more than two or three and really see what each one has to offer. Also i'd suggest going up and staying there for maybe two, three days when it's not a preveiw day, so you can really see how the school runs.

Union is a great school for students looking to grow knowledge and grow in thier spiritual life as well. Union is a hardcore conservative Southern Baptist Chrisitian school so a majority of the student body consists of private and home schooled students. So if you're someone looking to party, hook up with guys/girls, or come from a Liberal background, it's going to be really hard to enjoy and get involved at Union. I know this because i came from a public high school and was shocked when i came here.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

I chose Union U. for several important reasons. First, I saw that the student body was genuinely excited about their school and excited to build new relationships. Also, the students are encouraged by the faculty to actively enage the needs they see in the world. Furthermore, there is an emphasis on spiritual preparation and global mission work. I chose Union because it is a school that is passionate about people and academic excellence.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Choosing a college is more about you than about the college. Ask yourself, ?Why am I going to college; what is my goal? Where do I want to be in 10 years? How will this college help me get there?? Your answers to these questions will determine which college you choose. Next, visit every college you can! Even if you?re not highly interested in the school, you will gain valuable comparison points. While visiting, ask questions. What does the school choose to tell you about itself? Does what you?re seeing and hearing match? TALK TO STUDENTS; they can tell you what the school is really like. Continuing to ask questions and challenging yourself will help you make the most of your college experience. Ask faculty how the school can best help you reach your goals. Ask older students the tricks, shortcuts, and bits of wisdom they?ve learned. Try new things at college: stretch your comfort zone, meet new people, challenge yourself academically, and become involved on campus. Ask yourself, ?What do I want to remember about college when I?m finished?? Your answer to that question will determine your priorities for how you spend your time.

Describe the students at your school.

Most students are Christian (baptist). There are a lot of missionary kids, pastors kids, and international students. Most students are predominately right winged with political views. A majority of students want to go into missions after graduating of some manner.

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

To an extent, but there is much more variety than that.

What are the academics like at your school?

Professors are extremely approachable and very welcoming. They really want you to learn and will help you till you understand. Academics prepared me well for graduate school, and many friends were well prepared for professional schools.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?

most students get involved with the Go Trips in some way, and many are involved in Greek Life. Club sports and inter mural sports are very popular, as well as organizations centered around their majors. There are many small bible studies that people get involved with and The Freshman Life Groups are worth getting involved with as well.

What is the stereotype of students at your school?

All the guys are southern baptist, guitar playing, christian studies majors All the girls go to find their future spouse and are education or psychology majors

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Were I to go back and have to decide on a college again, I would make quite sure that I was perfectly at home with my choice. Adapting to college life can be more challenging than many ever deram and it is for this reason that it is necessary to find a good fit. Parents need to be active in the process, but not overwhelmingly so; taking a step back and allowing students to decide for themselves is the first step in the transition process. The school is not just about the academin program, not just about the social scence, and certainly not just about the accomodations. Rather, the school experience is about matching a person with their environment. Research prospective schools, talk to admissions and to students at the school. Know what you want. Choosing the right school gives flavor, structure, and direction to life. Making the wrong choice is just not an option.

What's unique about your campus?

My sheer tenacity. I very much like to see a problem through, and this usually gets me through the rough patches. I find that many problems require a high degree of commitment in order to successfully complete them.

What kind of person should not attend this school?

Those willing to devote a large amount of time to thinking deeply and researching thoroughly.
