It is a difficult school to get into and to get through. It is rigorous and the culture can be difficult for most. It is military life, so if you like that, you might enjoy your experiences there, otherwise it will be painful. It is a nice school to have on a resume though.
The United States Merchant Marine Academy is an institution of higher caliber. Not only is it one of the five federal service academies, but it is also referred to as "America's hidden gem" due to the countless opportunities it provides during and after completion of the school's four year program. It encourages core values that are essential in developing scholars and promoting leadership. As a current student here at the Academy, I highly recommend this Institution for students who desire unique experiences (spending a year studying abroad and traveling the world), a challenging academic curriculum, and friendships that last a lifetime.

Any person interested in going into the military as an officer or into the maritime industry.
it is a military academy, the lack of fredom
Think the same way I do.... USMMA is a great place to be from, but a horrible place to be at.
We work our asses off for four years for the promise of success in the real world. We also spend a year traveling the world on commercial ships seeing countries that other kids only dream of. in 3 months last year I saw Panama, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Japan and Canada.
not to join the band or put anything relating to band on my application.
Shy person.
This school is a good place to be from, not a good place to be.
Producing Maritime Officers
this is a military academy, honestly the best school in the nation for options when we grad. 90% job placemnt, class size of 250, class room size of 15. most people love this place, very hard, but very rewarding.
No time. Time Managment is almost impossible. One has to balance Academics, Sports, and the Regiment.
