The United States Military Academy is a great place to develop yourself into a scholar, leader, and a person of character. West Point is one of the best universities this nation has to offer (14th among all universities nationwide, and 1st among public schools). The class sizes are generally under 20 and the instructors are always available for individual additional instruction to ensure you succeed. West Point is commonly referred to as the premier leadership academy of the world. Here you will develop yourself into a great leader which will set you up for success later on in the civilian sector.
You are required to serve 5 years as an officer in the army after graduation, but your entire education is free, in fact you are paid to attend. Compared to the college debt that follows many students around their whole lives, 5 years of serving your country is a small price to pay and to many it is seen as a great opportunity.
Overall, USMA is a good school. There are things (sexual misconduct, drugs, alcohol, etc) that happen behind the scenes that the school tries to not show in order to maintain an imagine. However, if one ignores them, or avoids those situation, it has one of the best educations out there.
USMA is an incredible school. The academics are best of the best, and it is a great place to get into and stay in shape. However, only those serious about attending and serving in the Army on active duty should apply. There is a multitude of clubs available for membership that provide outlets for just about any student. All students participate in organized sports in one way or another, and the environment is extremely competitive.
West Point does a phenomenal job preparing future officers. While numerous challenges are presented, the resources available to students are more than sufficient to provide an atmosphere which encourages growth and development. The facilities, staff, and faculty all set the standard of superior performance.
Not for the faint of heart. If you want to be the best and study with the best, come to West Point.
I would recommend that anyone considering West Point take at least an overnight visit to campus. The unique culture and day to day life cannot be described adequately without seeing it in person.
