What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I had known that I shouldn't try to work full time, go to school full time, and be a full time mom all at the same time.

Look up teachers on ratemyprofessor.com to see what other students say about their teaching styles and techniques. Use the Math Lab and use it often. Study at the library and pack lunches.

I wish i had known more about the pre-requisites for my chosen profession. I wish I had known to take as many AP courses as possible. I wish I had known to work like three jobs during the summer to pay off school

I wish I had known more about the financial aid and scholarships available. Had I known that somehow I could afford the cost of school, I would have gone much, much sooner. I was scared of the prospect of having to slowly save money and attend school for a long period of time before finally graduating. I also wish I would have known more about my own capabilities, and that I can succeed in college, because I have a passion for learning.

That it is unpersonal between you and your professor. No one is going to monitor your progress but you. Although you are paying your professors they can still do what ever they want. There are no games when it comes to exams, be there and be there on time no excuses. Dealing with Administators from your university is a run around game. Books cost more than tuition most of the time. Get good grades, look for scholarships ahead of time. Decide your career before entering college.

I wish I had clearly known the level of inefficiency that administrative services (specifically enrollment and financial aid) operate at. Certainly, learning by experience is necessary, but having prior knowledge regarding the degree of follow-up I would need to utilize would have aided some decisions that I made.

Before I came to this school, I really wish that the school provided some kind of workshop on how to use the blackboard. My physics lab teacher had posted an announcement that there was class before school even started and with no make ups allowed, I had recieved an F for that day regardless of the fact, I did not know what and how to use blackboard.

I have asked myself this question many of times and come up with the same answers along with other students. I wish I had more family support, more honesty from the college when attending college. for the first time. A student starting out needs to be steered in the right direction, therefore, success will be the end result. I work at the Mat-Su College and I give as much information as possible to help student pick the right classes, save money and help them relax. That to me is so rewarding and important. Honesty is the best policy.

I wish I had known to not expect the university to have all the correct answers to my problems. I had to do extensive research on my own with little to no assistance from the faculty. They were often unclear and indirect. I wish I had been more assertive about what I wanted and expected from my university instead of expecting the university to help me through. In otherwords: be pro-active and informed.

DON'T FREAK OUT! My first semester at college I had absolutely NO social life. I studied and studied all the time! While I did get a 4.0, I missed out on great opportunities for friendships and relationships!
