Benjamin Travis

So far my experiences with the LGBT have been incredibly positive; there have been a few presentations in my lecture classes by the LGBT group and the vibe they send preaches acceptance rather than "Tolerance", which a lot of people are taught. My experiences with the religious groups on campus have varied. Often there will be some man preaching and raving on the mall about divine judgment hanging out pamphlets full of severe material, whereas other times small groups will try to do fundraisers for their church or hold community benefits. Most students at the University are Arizona natives and students from around the United States who are interested in sciences. Most students wear casual street clothes to class every day, and the common vibe on campus has mostly to do with the upcoming Presidential election. It would be very easy to walk up to a classmate and start talking politics.l

Amy

Arizona's student body is extremely diverse. Because this is a public research university, it attracts every type of person imaginable. There are so many organizations to join. Whether it be a political club, a social club, or whatever, Arizona will definitely have something that will catch any student's interest.

Lindsay

Because Arizona is such a large school, there are people of all racial, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds. A student that did not like to go drink or go to frat parties might have a difficult time finding their niche at Arizona. Some students dress up for class, but most dress casually. There are girls wearing greek letters everywhere you turn. For being a state university, there is a surprisingly large amount of students from out of state. Most out of state students are from California and New York. There are many wealthy students at Arizona, but there is also a large portion of students on scholarships. Political activism is not very strong on campus, but the political clubs try really hard to promote it.

Justin

The student body on campus is very diverse. Every sort of minority is represented on campus.

kelsey

There is a diverse group of students here from all over. I've known people from California, New York and even India. There seems to be all types of groups of people here and no one would be out of place. There is a big grassy field by the student union called The Mall that a lot of groups and clubs hang out on and inform people that are interested. There are also some very radical religious people that show up on The Mall from time to time to express their views. You will get people that agree with them and then people that strongly disagree with them and feel the need to voice their opinions also. But hey, it's college. This is the perfect time to express our opinions but also learn more about other types of people.

Michelle

I feel like a lot of Arizona people stick together because they usually have come from high school with a lot of friends. But I also like how there are people from so many places around the United States. I really feel like I am being shown different attitudes and customs of different places throughout the United States.

Whitney

My classmates are very diverse. The range in age, race, and origin. They come from all over the world and I have learned a lot from them and their cultures. It is very easy to meet new people and get help in class. Most are in school to achieve high goals and succeed in great fields.

On campus students constantly get lectured to by religious groups on teh mall or religious people asking questions about our faith. U of A is pretty diverse although most races tend to stick with each other. most students wear summer or spring outfits and the occasional sweater because its basically spring and summer year round. the four tables are african amercans and athletic students, asians, hispanics, and caucasians.

Laurel

I love them. I always meet new people.

Carly

Arizona has a diverse student body filled with everything you can think of. There are numerous clubs that celebrate ones' ethnicity, religious background, interests that are opne to anyone. In fact the member of clubs want everyone to come and witness what they believe in. Flip flops are a must for everyone. And the dress code is laid back to the maxium. You will see people dressed up around campus and you either think job interview or business major.

Charlie

Students here seem to pretend to be politically active/ aware. Mostly, they stick to whatever their parents are, and don't open themselves up to anything outside of their comfort zone. I would think that the majority of UA students would be center-left, but when it actually comes to voting and political action, the majority vote right. sad.

Brie

My experience with racial and religious groups on campus has been positive, they are non threatening and very respectful. I think the kind of student that would feel out of place at Arizona would be a person who does not come from a wealthy family, is non social, hates school spirit. As a freshman I noticed that most people were wearing their pajamas or sweat pants and a AZ shirt. Now as a junior, people are a little more dressier and will usually wear a t shirt and jeans or shorts. Different types of students interact, but only I noticed when forced to be in assigned groups. From what I've noticed, most students are either from Phoenix, California, or Chicago. Most financial backgrounds at Arizona are very wealthy, BMW driving white kids who probably will not have accumulated any debt after graduation because mommy and daddy pay for everything. BUT I personally know many people who are having to take out loans and are paying to attend the University on their own.

Scott

I dont hang out with the main portion of UA but we have hot chicks.

Justin
