University of Arizona Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Alexandria

The worst thing about my school would be how far away from my family.

Jessica

I think that the worse thing about my school is that it is raising its tuition and is being pressured to cut their budget and in order to stay in "buiness" so to speak they have to bill the students to make up the deficit in order to continue to function.

Ade

Recent budget cuts. Classes sizes have increased and tuition has increased

Dominic

I consider the worst thing about the University of Arizona to be the cost of attendance. Prices keep rising, and it's expensive for students, both in-state and out-of-state to attend.

Sabrina

The registration process, there always seemed to be too full of classes and once the school year started my schedule would change serval times before it was all together.

Elisabeth

The worst thing about the University of Arizona (UofA) at the time I attended was the problems occuring with one of the fraternityhouses. This fraternity did end up getting banned from the school however, so this would not be an issue for students attending the UofA at this time.

Holly

In my year and half at the University of Arizona I feel that diversity is extremely important being an African American myself and I feel that the school lacks itself in diversity although it prides itself on it. I think there could be higher ratios of minorities at this school, because I still find myself to be the only African American in my classes.

Natalia

I would consider the city of Tucson the worst part of our school. It isn't the safest city in America, and a car is usually needed to get around. Unfortunately the campus is situated in one of the worse parts of Tucson, but there are certain areas, such as the Foothills, that are really nice and worth going to visit.

Valerie

The worst thing about my school is the budget cuts. I cannot understnad how the tuition increases but the school is still cutting the budget. Budget cuts affect every department and every major. Class sizes continue to grow and less course are offered. The University of Arizona still has a huge selection of courses but I do not see how they are justifying budget cuts of any kind with tuition continuing to grow.

Nathaniel

The number of students can be pretty bad and causes some classes to be over three hundred students at a time. If i'm not there is around 30,000 students that attend the University. This also make lines at lunch really long sometimes.

Armando

The worst thing about my school is parking on campus. THe reason why its the worst thing about my school is because parking is expensive and if you want to park on campus you have to pay huge amounts of money to get a parking permit.

Bret

The ideological bent of the faculty. I know this is an American university so I should have expected it, but I'm perpetually amazed how forceful and biased professors are, and how intolerant of dissenting views. If you're gonna to disagree, it's possible that you will be punished with a bad grade- go to the professor and insist on an explanation and they'll immediately cave.

Michael

Unfortunatly I do believe that the average class size at UofA is far too large. With recent budget cuts for education in the State of Arizona, the University has had to expand class sizes even more in recent years. I feel strongly that great education requires small class sizes. That said, I do think that UofA manages as best they can with current State funding.

Alexis

One of the worst things about the University of Arizona is that there are so many students that for your first couple weeks of school it can become very overwhelming. It takes awhile to really get yourself familiar with the campus and your routine. By far the worst thing about the University of Arizona is it's limited parking spaces.

Leona

Historically, Arizona taxpayers have not considered education their top priority. Because of this, Arizona universities have met their budgets by increasing tuition costs. When I enrolled at UA as an undergraduate in 2002, resident tuition was under $2,000/semester. Each year of my undergraduate career, the Board of Regeants passed a tuition hike, and undergraduate tuition came to $3,500/semester at the time of my graduation in 2007. Now, as a graduate student at the UA, I struggle to cover the higher tuition costs in order to get an education I can use to serve my community.

Kamille

I would consider the worst this about my school is the large classes. My school is low on money therefore the class sized have to increase in order for students to get the class they want. I had a class this past semester that had almost 1200 students. I was dificult to get feedback from the professor and also we had to take our quizzes and exams on a projector which was not fair to most because we all work at different paces.

Vija

Financial problems are causing distractions for the students worried about how they will afford their education if there are any more cuts.

Silvia

The worst is probably that some teachers that have accents are harder to understand.

Enid-Janessa

The campus is beautiful but large and when its 110 degrees outside and your walking from the Harvill building to the main library you get kind of sweaty. Do not worry the library is always freezing!

Audrey

Administrative support of students. I didn't get much help my freshman year in education of what is expected as a student. It seems that your automatically supposed to know how to survive in a college environment. Also, when I went in for some advising, the woman was cold and rude, by the end of the session I was in tears because she pretty much told me my struggles were all my fault and that I have already ruined my future.

Abigail

There are no cafeteria/ dinning halls in dorms. Although there are food courts in the student union, the incovenience of students having to travel away from safety of dorm rooms is not a good idea. Food courts in student union is very convenient for commuters but not for students living in dorms, especially during the night.

brandon

Increased costs but less and less classes offered. NO job markets to be hired into after college. NO alumni help after graduation and NO school programs offer jobs after college. Terrible circle of increased debt and declined help from the institutuion that caused the debt. VERY SAD situation for young AMERICANS to be put into

jason

Angela

The recent tuition increase because it makes it difficult for us out of state students to attend.

Bethann

The availability or required classes be major. It's hard to get all the classes needed.

Cody

The fact that majors require so many general education credits that have nothing to do with your major. And most of the time they are a waste of time because they are boring and ridiculously easy.

Ashley

I really like everything about my school, the only issue I have with it is that it isn't that well organized. Especially when it comes to registering for classes, it can get very stressful.

Aaron

The political landscape, like most public universities is very much liberal. There are groups forming, like the young americans for liberty uofa, that are working to change the discussion to a more bipartisan level and contitutionally based.

Allison

The heat.

Joni

The budget cuts. Although I'm sure every school is going through the same economical down trought, it is hard. Some of the majors are being cut, funding is being taken away, and classes are not only growing in size, but some are diminishing all toggher. Financial aid is disappearing which makes it very hard to attend school. Having no funds available is very upsetting/.

Megan

My campus is great, but I think the worst thing is that some of the older dorms are not as comfortable as the new ones. Many of them need repair and renovation.

Elizabeth

Recently, the class sizes are getting bigger as the attendance grows. Sometimes I feel that it is busting!

Blake

The worst thing about the of A as an incoming freshmen is the illusion of the importance of the greek system. Far too many people go through all of the trouble just because they think they will be social failuers if they do not. The push for these organizations does not encourage free thought or real frindship and I believe that incoming students should avoid it all together to devlope as a complete individual

Audrey

The worst thing about my school is the inequality in degree programs. The university of Arizona puts way more emphasis on science/math related fields (which in itself is awesome if that is your chosen career field). However, I am a Journalism and Creative Writing major and I feel like there aren't as many opportunities here for what I want to be.

Shilo

The dormitories are probably the worst thing at the University of Arizona. Many of them are really old, small, and lack convenient ammenties.

Sadie

The worst thing is all of the budget cuts that have been happening recently. This means that tuition is going to rise and there is going to be less class availability.

Jade

The tuition is rising and the parking is expensive.

Angelica

The worst thing about my school is that many of the students discriminate against minorities. As I am part of a minority I find myself being discriminated against at certain times. People just do not understand how hurtful it is to have people not like you only because you are from a different ethnic group than they are. We are all created equally and therefore no one is better than any one else. I just wish that people would try to accept others.

Carlos

I think my school needs a little sparkle of art emphasis. While there is numerous research, investigation and experiments, you never hear too much about music achievment, paint or any other type of art. We have a large auditorium located within campus and artistic figures from all over the world come to perform but little the students know about faculty, staff or students performing in it.

Erin

I think the worst thing about the University of Arizona is the location. The University has an amazing campus, but the rest of Tucson is pretty dull, especailly for students coming from bigger and more exciting cites.

Nichele

The lack of finacial aid given to some students. I know the lower middle class tends to get more, than others. But I thing it should depend on the student alone. NOT their parents income. My parents make really good money but they are not the ones paying for my education. I am.

Steven

The worst thing about this school is the organization and the allocation of funds towards certain departments on campus. Some departments are completely looked over when they need money, and that means the students get looked over as well. The university is currently in a financial crisis and is looking to reorganize, but students will be strongly affected by this.

Agendia

Its location, Arizona is too hot and some times it is really hard to find the necessary motivation to syudy.

Denise

My experience has been a good one when it comes to the University of Arizona, and although many of the dorm establishments are old (because of the school's history) I think that they deserve to be updated. I loved my dorm experience, I would have preferred the accommodations to be newer.

Jessi

Did not have classes for software learning (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign ...)

Lisann

The worst thing about the school is traffic...but that's everywhere.

Palak

One of the worst things about the University of Arizona is that many of the classes are big along with the campus so it is hard to meet people unless you go out of your way to talk to others. Since I am a social person, I don't have many problems with this, but those that are shy do. It is easier to meet people in smaller classes and on a smaller campus, but I still like our campus size.

Elspeth

I think the worst thing about this school are the large classes. There are so many students, especially in my major, psychology, that a student can feel like they do not really matter to the teachers, or that the teachers only see them as a number. But , if you put in a little effort, the teachers welcome getting to know you.

Iqbal

the overwhelming amount of students interested in our collegiate sports means that we have long lines to get into the games.

Claire

I think the wort thing about my school is the number of classes open to students in majors other than science. I am a science major and I find it easy to sign up for classes that are in my field however, I would really like to attend other classes in order to be more diverse in my studies.
