What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Aureana

The fact that the winter and summer session courses come out about 3 to 6 weeks before the sessions even start. This can be frustrating because we are unable to plan ahead enough for Spring Session for example. The Spring Session courses come out before the winter session does.

Kaitlin

Lack of activities in the surrounding area for students without cars...most malls and restaurants are not within walking distance

Guadalupe

Like with every school or college they have their downsides. The Univeristy of Arizona is a great school; however, a big downfall for myself is the size of the campus. Its a very big campus and that sometimes makes it difficult to get to class on time especially if classes are not close to each other.

Justin

The University of Arizona is a very dynamic school with many goals in mind. They do their best to keep students involved and working at their interests. Still, the school is very large, and can be overwhelming for some students. Rather than specialize, the University of Arizona excels in many areas. I believe with the multitude of choices that the school has to offer, that the most frustrating thing at the university would be a figuring out what they want to do in life. The school offers many opportunities to find out, yet the task can still be difficult.

Rachel

There's no real directionality in the registration process or even while physically on school grounds. I was charger with out-of-state tuiton, found it very difficult to apply to the College of Fine Art (and get a timely response), and was frequently lost on campus (the campus maps are not detailed enough). First day of school I fell over a curb looking at a map and was hit by a biker. More detailed maps along with an easier registration process would be much appreciated.

Mason

The most frustrating thing about my school is the administrative departments. Due to the large size of the school, it takes a very long time to get anything done (such as transcripts, administrative drops, getting financial aid problems resolved). However, I'm sure this can be experienced at most any university.

Ashley

The professors associated with this campus could possibly dedicate more interaction with their students. This is usually a problem in general education courses upon coming to the university. Classes are large and therefore, it is difficult for one professor to engage with their students. To improve this problem, graduate students teach some of the classes. This should not be permitted because many students become confused over the course material. The education is not equal if one student gets a better qualified graduate student then another. Graduate students should be able to “help” but not “control” the classroom methods and procedures.

Dominick

Tuition increases annually.

Shannon

The most frustrating thing about the University of Arizona is being placed in temporary housing if there is not enough available on campus housing for incoming freshmen.

Olivia

The most frustrating thing about the U of A is the location. Tucson has so much traffic and the roads are terrible to drive on. The only nice part about Tucson is the campus itself which is very clean and pretty. Outside of the campus is dirty and not fun to be in.

Natalie

It is hard to find people I can associate with. I do not drink or party and I do not have any money. So that leaves minimal social opportunities for me. I am not able to really go out and meet people because I do not party. This made my first year here hard, and it still does considering I only have a select group of friends that are like me.

Alyssa

The price of text books and other supplies is usually extremely expensive. The teachers often require the newest editions of books, eliminating the opportunity to buy used books at a cheaper price. Fortunately there are other options available than just the book store, and the school advertises these opportunities as well!

Xavier

The limit importance it places on the arts; most of its focus, and consequently financial aid, goes to science fields.

Tiara

The most frustrating thing about my school is the quickly rising tuition costs. The state economy is bad and I understand that but the school keeps claiming tution is being raised so they can provide all these new sevices that never appear. Class size is increasing and it's difficult to stay ahead.

Tyler

Parking at the U of A is extremely expensive and at times hard to find. This clearly provides an advantage to students who live in on campus housing even though off campus housing may be more economical. The best solution is to walk or bike if you live off campus.

Nicole

The most frustrating thing about my university is that I do not feel as if I am being challenged intellectually or even encouraged to challenge myself in such a way at the University of Arizona, and this lack of motivation is reflected in the attitudes of the other students. While the University of Arizona does offer most anyone the chance to receive a higher education, this is a gift and curse, as exceptional students are oftentimes held back as they are underestimated and not encouraged to each their full potential.

Lauren

The most frustrating thing about the University of Arizona, in my opinion, is the food options provided on campus. Not many healthy options are available on or near campus. My major is nutritional science, and I value being healthy. It is very hard to find food near campus that allows me to maintain the healthy lifestyle I enjoy. My biggest suggestion would be to shop at a food store for snacks to bring to class in order to avoid buying unhealthy food on campus.

Kevin

I believe that the most frustrating thing about my school is learning to understand what is expected of me as a student in a large class size, and trying to develop a relationship with my professor. Every professor is different with their class requirements, but not understanding their requests and/or how they perceive my work and writing style for grading purposes, is frustrating. I thought that it would be more opened communication between the student and professor, than referring to online results. Trying to figure the writing style and acceptance for a better grade has been frustrating.

Allison

The most frustrating thing about my school is navigating the bureaucracy. It is quite difficult to talk to anyone in the administration. I find I have a lot of questions about adding classes, how to do well in the classes I am in, how to find a work study job, and so on. It is difficult to find the right people, who have the right information, who can schedule a time when I am not in class to talk to me.

Jenny

The most frustrating thing about UA is probably the mealplans and school cafeteria. The cafeteria is rather small for a school with so many people attanding and the same restraunts can get old pretty fast, not to mention the pricing of the food is rather high. The mealplans can be a scam too because the money doesn't rollover to the next semester if you don't use all of the money.

Katrina

The most frustrating things about the university is the crowds of students at the beginning of each semester and trying to get into all the classes you want. I've had to show up on the first day of class and get teacher approval to be admitted to some classes before.

Leo

There is nothing I can think of that frustrates me about my school. I absolutely love it here.

John

Nothing really

Erin

To me, the most frustrating thing about the University of Arizona is the fact that the university does not yet run on the + and - system for grading. It is frustrating to me because even if you work hard and receive a borderline grade, your GPA will reflect the same grade as someone who hardly acheived that letter grade.

David

The most frustrating issue at the University of Arizona is money there is always a fee for any little thing that is necessary and that will get me a step closer to my educational goal. In order to recieve financial aid you must first get accepted into a college but, in order to do this a student needs money to take a GRE exam and application fee and parking fees this is what is most frustrating about my current situation i am a father of Three and first generation to attend a college I am trying to better my future.

Angela

The Honors college because they make us pay a $250 fee but hardly offer any benefits. They often drop some of their honors courses and you have to go out of your way to take them because not that many are offered. Also, it is not very selective and it does not mean that much to be in the UA Honors college. They may boast that they offer the cheapest printing and students can check out books for 6 months, but it's not worth the $250 per semester.

Jasimine

Large class sizes that seem somewhat impersonal and that the advisors really don't give the more accurate or help advice while advising students throughout their college career.

Joseph

Financial Aid seems to be unpredictable. There are too many seperate entities to deal with.

Meenakshi

The Math Department and faculty could be more helpful in conveying the lessons to the students.

Ashton

The University of Arizona is a large college composed of over 30,000 students. Due to this, the size of lectures and classes is quite high, especially during students' initial years in general education courses. The size of these courses is somewhat frustrating, but the increasing size of upper division courses is truly frustrating. During registration, many professors will allow an excessive number of students into their courses at the cost of individualized attention and, sometimes, outside fo the seating allocation per room. Because of state and nation-wide education cuts, the rising tuition costs does not counteract this problem.

Stacy

Sometimes financial aid is late, so you can't get everything you need before school. The burser does open your account up to $1000 to get books and supplies at the bookstore but there are other things you need before school and it is frustrating when financial aid does not show up on time.

Bao

Financial aid people are little help. Signing up for classes can be frusterating because you can't get the classes you want sometimes

Darian

At times, different colleges and schools have trouble communicating and coordinating activities and student events . More communication between all deans and administrators would be helpful.

Charles

After the first six months of school here at the University of Arizona, I realized the most frustrating aspect of college was changing my high school habits. The professors expect a much higher level of involvement and effort from the students that was not expected during high school. I noticed this change especially in the English Department. Now when I write essays I have to have at least four drafts and each draft may be changed compelelty from the prior. Although this was frustrating at first, I believe that this change was necessary for my success in the future.

Sonja

There is larger class sizes now and less classes eligible to students due to budget cuts. This makes it much more difficult to get into required classes before graduation.

Samantha

I am a non-traditional student with a preschool age child at home. The most frustrating thing for me is the absence of childcare available at school and the cost of childcare available in my community. If the school provided reduced-rate childcare for my child, my stress level would be reduced, my productivity would increase, and I believe the quality of my schoolwork would also increase. The availability for assistance and guidance for non-traditional commuter students is hard to find as well.

Edgar

The most frustrating thing about my school is the cost of attendance and how expensive everything is on campus. For people who are first generation to attend a university and from minorities familities the cost is exceptionally high. Although there is financial aid the cost can put much burden and strain on people from this backgrounds. Beign in college is expensive and the high cost discourages many people to persue higher education and for those who do it takes alot of effort and comitment to finish school. The most frustration thing about my school is the cost.

OiYan

one thing that frustrate me a lot is that the Business College doesnt have enough study area for student. we have a big study room on the 1st floor but it is not quiet enough. there are some individual rooms on 3rd & 4th floor but it would be wounderful if there are more rooms that we can use especially there are a lot of presentation when it comes to a business class.

Maren

The classes are very large, and it is difficult for the professors to provide persona feedback. Very few students seem to be academically orientated.

Maileen

In terms of my perspective, the most frustrating thing about my school would be adjusting to the presence of classmates from different financial backgrounds. Growing up, I was not surrounded by wealth and the chance to splurge on material items. Being in presence of this lifestyle is nothing I am used to because a majority of the students I see are Anglo and a part of the upper-class society. I am still working on accepting the different lifestyles people have growing up, but I strongly wish that money didn't drive the personality and needs of young adults.

Sophia

The most frustrating thing about the University of Arizona is its orientation around Greek Life and the huge influence it has over University’s social scene. As a student, if one chooses to not join a Fraternity or Sorority, one will find oneself generally excluded and "out of the loop" in terms of many social events. The U of A heavily revolves around Greek Life, so if a student desires an active social life, it is strongly suggested to join a Fraternity or Sorority.

Branden

The fraternity and sorority scene is so large that it is hard to have a consistent nightlife if you are not involved with the Greek community.

Derrick

Frustration hasn't hit me yet, being a Freshman here at the University of Arizona. The worst that I've come accross is getting around campus. The campus is very big and the forms of transportation are, a bike, walking, and/or skateboarding. Not only that, I had to learn exactly where everything was at and all of the routes. Although frustration can hit me through small things such as transportation, I don't let it get to me and I stay focused on my studies.

Maryam

A lot of people bike on campus and that gets super hectic and also, I am not in greek life but some of the fraternity boys are just so typical and that can get annoying but other than that, nothing!

Matthew

The Administration Office at times can be a bit frustrating. Most of my financial questions, I had to answer on my own. During the 12:00 Lunch hour, it was very hard to move around because so many students are trting to find a place to eat or a place to catch up on last minute homework o studying.

Magdalena

The budget cuts in Arizona have resulted in drastic tuition increases for both in state and out of state students. Not only has it resulted in tuition increases, but it has resulted in increased class sizes, which in my opinion have decreased the quality of many of the general education courses.

Carmen

The most frustrating aspect about the University of Arizona is the increasing prices on tuition and fees.

Nichole

The most frustrating thing about the U of A is the cost of everything, especially the parking. If you're not living on campus, then it's hundreds of dollars for a parking permit. But the campus is so overcrowded that you're not even guaranteed a spot to park.

Brandon

The most frustrating thing so far is the parking situation. Though there are several parking garages, the fees are pricey and the garage and outside parking is congested. The college spans several city blocks, so getting from class to class is a bit of a challenge. I'll be driving 56 miles to campus, then I'll have to bring a bicycle or roller blades.

Chelsea

Easy to get into, harder to keep A's
