University of Arizona Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Michelle

The only thing that seems to bother me is the amount of online services that are required to obtain information for each class I am enrolled in. I wish the school only had one set for all the departments instead of a different one for each individual college.

Hilary

The University of Arizona is a moderately large campus, and at first the size of the school was daunting to me! Before classes started I was worried about being able to find all of my classes and I was also nervous that I would not have enough time inbetween classes in order to make it to the next class on time! Thankfully, it didn't take long to find my way around campus and I no longer have the problems I initially worried about!

Mariah

The worst thing would probably be some outdated buildings that are incompatible with some newer technology. The classes are very interactive and you need interactive and efficient technology in each classroom to accommodate the demands of our tech savvy generation. This is a new age; we need the best to learn with. However this isn?t true with all the buildings and the newer ones are great.

Nicole

The most frustrating thing about my school is the Greek System. For sororities, it is extremely expensive to join, but it is also one of the main aspects of the social life here at the U of A. For those of us who cannot afford to pay $2000 a semester, we can't join one, and therefore lose a great opportunity to make long-lasting friends and potential job networking abilities.

Amanda

Long Beach City College is great, considering its educational limitations of being a community college. But I wish they had more classes pertaining to architecture that's can be considered transferable to 4 year universities. Right now, their architecture classes only equate to electives.

Stephen

There are a lot of stereotypical fraternity and sorority people.

Wilfred

Lack of good cafeteria style food nearby, difficulty in getting classes as needed.

Blanca

The most frustrating thing about my school is the amount of people in TRAD classes. I never met my professor in my TRAD class. A class of 1,200 students made it hard to reach my professor in office hours.

Megan

Due to the recent budget cuts the most frustrating thing about my school is not being able to get the classes that I need for graduation. It is a constant battle every semester to get the needed classes and have a reasonable schedule so that I can schedule work or research projects.

Philip

The Greek system, and the students who occupy classes yet have no true interest to take them. These two aspects impede the education process and make the U of A look like a joke.

Juliana

My department (the Psychology department) is so crowded and overwhelemed that it is very difficult to gain admission into classes. There are long waiting lists and there is no priority registration for upperclass students.

Carrie

The most frustrating thing about the University of Arizona is that books are way over-priced. Sometimes they can run up to $1000 each semester which is simply ridiculous!

Charles

My complaints about this school are not many, but they are worth consideration. The difficulty of acquiring administrative information is ridiculous, primarily because it seems to change each time that one calls and/or speaks to a different person. Secondly, the amount of funding cuts that the university has endured are quite frankly alarming, including those still to come. Lastly, the Cat tran which I pay to ride from campus to my car (at a school owned lot off-campus) ceases daily service before my last class gets out this semester.

Chandler

The room temperatures. It's waaaay too cold in the rooms in the summer, so I have to carry around a jacket. In Arizona. In the summer. It's ridiculous.

Jeff

Some teachers that I have had in past classes are very subjective to their opinions and will only give good grades to those you follow reinforce their opinions in papers, homeworks, etc. Some teachers punish difference in opinion by giving lower grades believing that their opinions and their teachings are the correct ones.

Jennifer

The most frustrating aspect of the University of Arizona is the the bookstore online book orders. The bookstore provides an option to buy new or used. However, upon arrival at the bookstore to pick up your books, some of them are missing. If the bookstore runs out of used copies they will automatically give you a new copy, and charge you the price of the new copy. If they run out of new copies then they will simply not provide you with that book! The problem is that they don't tell you which books they didn't give you!

Danielle

I have to say the most frustrating parts about campus would be that most of the pricing is over priced and also the limited amount of parking and how much that costs. I understand the need to charge and that since most students can only shop on campus and since they have the supply and we demand it that they can raise those prices but already paying so much just to attend the University should mean lower prices.

Monica

The cost of tuition keeps rising and budget cuts keep increasing!

Jesus

The use of tuition money. It is ike we pay the total research cost for instructors and proffesors because it seems like that is all they care about. I agree research is fairly important to help our society, but I also think that if we don't get taught in the right way and if we can't get help from our instructors during their office hours because they are so busy thinking about their research, then how are we going to be able to help out our community. Also the lack of different class time offerings.

Leila

My University is geared mostly towards students right out of high school so services for older returning students, especially those with children like myself, are extremely limited making it more difficult to attend if one has unique responsibilities outside of school.

Luchie

After only spending a semester at U of A, the most frustrating thing would be the work load. Education is no joke and if you don't know how to study or prepare yourself, you will do poorly in your classes. However, I've learned to adjust and can't really think of anything frustrating about my school, well besides the football team losing the Holiday Bowl this year to Nebraska, 33-0.

Alexandria

The most frustrating thing about my school is how people drink every Thursday when there are classes the next day.

Kianna

It's hard to get ahold of the financial aid advisors and the classes fill quickly.

Jessica

I am unable to get the classes I need when I need them. They don't offer enough.

Daniel

The lack of variety in classes and trying to find seats in the few classes available in order to graduate. Many of the classes and electives available tended to be filled, which made getting into classes a rough experience.

Tyler

The greek system seems to only furthers the negative sterotypes of themselves. For the most part, from my experience, they deter from the classroom experience by never demonstrating true academic curiosity or dedication, in addition to asking unrelevant questions which deter from my academic experience.

Katherine

I was a transfer student and the hardest part was finding my niche. There are no programs for transfer students like there are for incoming students and I find that to be unfortunate.

Lavon

I would say their are not enough resources here at this school. The food offered here is expensive and limited. And the facilities are always packed and it's hard to find an open computer during the day. But i would say most of all the limited availability of classes. My school plans have been delayed because i wasn't able to take the classes i wanted to when i was able to take them. Another issue is the cost of school. Because of the budget cuts made by the states, tuition was raised twice.

Danielle

I am rarely frustrated with the University, however, my personal opinion is that the school places too much emphasis on the importance of joining fraternities and sororities, when many experiences can be gained without ever joining one.

Lindsay

The surrounding area is scary. There is not much to do in Tuscon.

Satyavelan

Quite honestly, I can't think of anything frustrating about my school. I have an amazing advisor, amazing educational opportunities and excellent professors teaching teaching my school's top-ranked M.I.S program! Life is good!

brandon

This school has destroyed fraternity life. Unfair punishment to fraternity life. No emphasis on after school employment. 80-90{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of my friends that just graduated (all with exceptional GPA) are jobless and living at home, a terrible service done to these NEW alumni. INCREASINGLY expensive education without JOBS to live on after schooling, lots of school debt without income or immediate future.

Charmainge

Currently we are facing budget cuts and it makes it very difficult to pay bills. I do not feel that the teachers try and help the students pass as well as they could. I say this because the average grade for a particular class could be a C and they do not try to change the way they teach. I feel that if they see there is a problem with thier teaching mechanisms, they should try to alter ther issue.

Jennifer

It takes some practice to get a balanced academic and social life, it is frustrating in the fact that it is a lot of trial and error before you get it just right. At times it might feel as though you are doing nothing at all but studying and that your college life is passing you by and sometimes it might feel as though you have been neglecting your school work or not doing as good on assignments as you know you could have. But it is all a learning experience in and of itself.

Nicole

Fees are accessed for every little thing, and I don't even use some of the programs. Textbooks are also very expensive.

Allison

How much the school emphasizes and values greek life. It is extremely difficult to be an out of state student and make a good group of friends quickly without being in a fraternaty/sorority.

Kathryn

Greek life is really big at my school. Sometimes I feel looked down upon because I'm not part of Greek life. They always have things going on that I can't be included with, which can be disappointing.

Leah

The greek life is overpowering and Tucson is a very low class town with minimum job opportunities and at times very unsafe

John

I love the weather at the U of A, but because of the huge amount of sunny days, lower tuition than other PAC-10 colleges, and proximity to the beaches of California, it really does attract students that are more interested in partying than learning. So often do you read in the school paper that "X" frat or sorority is being closed due to misconduct and excessive violations. Plus, most drinking altercations and sexual misconduct surround thse groups. I know it sounds like a stereotype, but for the U of A, it's true.

Brittany

The amount of homework I recieve. I find there is little time to have a social life, although I am able to earn good grades.

Steve

Most frustrating thing is school is stress and anxiety given by the homeworks or the exams for some classes. Some are not required a workload, but are very efficient in learning.

Teresa

At times the most frustrating thing about my schools is the population. Since so many people attend it is hard to get into classes I need, especially the most popular courses.

Vanitra

The most frustrating thing about my school is how all the mathematics teachers are foreign. Don't get me wrong, I love a diverse community, but math is a second language itself so it doesnt help it the person who is teaching can barely speak english. It makes it very very difficult to understand. I don't want to spend my time in the class trying to understand what the teacher is trying to say, and trying to understand the material as well.

Ezra

Fraternities and sororities dominate the social life on campus blocking social interaction between students who are not affiliated with Greek life. In a big university setting it can become frustrating to make friends outside of your circle because there is little cohesiveness among social groups and majors. As an architecture student, I spend so much of my time interacting with only other architecture students that it would be nice if we had social events planned with other colleges and social groups.

Heather

The fact that they won't give out scholarships for academics unless it's right when you apply; so for a transfer student like me, I get pretty screwed over.

Ryan

Students that ride the bicycles on/aound campus. They pose a hazard to the pedestrians on campus and to the cars driving around campus with their recklessness.

yutaka

not enough class numbers to enroll in

Jessica

I take a shuttle back and forth from campus to my apartment complex and I have to wait for the shuttle for at least 40 minutes everyday on campus. There are many students who wait for a shuttle in the same location and there are no benches in this area. I would appreciate more benches for students to sit down while they wait!

Michelle

The parking situation

Eric

Nothing is very frustrating. Sometimes there is quite a bit of work.
