I love my school it local and one of the best colleges in the State

Craig

The best thing about the school has to be the instructors. The school has an average age of 28 years old, but the mixture of age groups allows younger students to learn side by side with numerous generations, with a wealth of experience in areas beyond academia. The school is large by enrollment, but has a small community feel because of the divisions in traditional, and the larger majority of non-traditional students. People Often underestimate the school and look at it as one that anyone could go to, but everyone who attends can assure you that your degree is not one that is achieved easily. The city is not a college town, and the college is placed nearly in the center of everything so it has a great proximity to business, art, and cultural landmarks of the state of Arkansas. The largest controversy this year revolved around the death of Patricia Guardodo, who was abducted and murdered from a local restaurant in October. Many people blamed the school for a lack of video surveillance. There is a lot of pride within school programs, but it does not extend beyond the basketball and baseball programs. The school doesn't have the camraderie in the fall because there is no football program at the school, so most of the events are parties and open mic events from Greek Life or Campus Life programs. I will always remember my first year, the Rhetoric and Writing Department which teaches freshmen composition courses boast one of the best staffs in the country. There is a huge commitment to writing and publication at the university. Most frequent student complaints are about the lack of parties, because we have six other colleges which have football teams in the state so weekends can often be dull for students under 21, or who live on campus.

Another home where I can expect for my knowledge to be expanded and my opportunities to broaden, that describes UALR. The people are very friendly and courteous and offer their help to anyone who asks. The friendliness of student guides and mentors was one of the reasons I decided to attend this University. Everyone wants to succeed and help other reach their success. We are all a family here. I can have one-on-one talks and friendly conversations with my advisors, all my teachers, and mentors. You will not fell like you cannot talk to the people around you because they always make time to be available. The common hangout, the DSC, is where you can get a variety of food choices from a salad bar, sandwich bar, a home-cooked meals section, pizza and burgers, Taco bell and many other food sections. The food is wonderful because there are dishes that are cooked right in front of you by chefs. Amazing! Even though we don't have a football team, we still have one of the best baseball, basketball, and track team that have major wins and high academic achievements. I even love our email system and Facebook page. Almost everything that is going on at the University, volunteer opportunities, job opportunities, contact for teachers and mentors, campus safety alerts are available on our student email. Campus housing is AMAZING and everything about this university makes me want to continue my education here and encourage others to do the same.

The school work is not easy, but challenging and pushes you to want to learn more. The teacher no you by name and offer their help at any time. Everyone is willing to assist you, from our Math and Chemistry tutoring labs to the Rhetoric and Writing Center, all dedicated to providing educational aid. I truly enjoy UALR. I find the campus warm and inviting. More importantly, everyone is welcome; even children.

I love it here. I love the people. I think if I had went anywhere else in Central Arkansas, I wouldn't be as involved with the campus as I am here.

I love UALR!!! U-A-L-R not uler. UALR is a great school with a lot to offer. We have wonderful faculty, staff and administrators. We also have an excellent campus life. In fact, we have an entire office devoted to making campus life great. I am a member of UPC, the University Program Council. We plan a lot of the fun events on campus. They are free to every student. I spend a lot of my time in the DSC. I hang out with my friends and sisters, eat, attend events and also handle the day to day operations for Student Government. I have been in SGA since 2008. I was a senator from 2008-2010, president pro-temp from 2009-2010 and president from 2010-2012. It has been a wonderful experience. The key to having a great experience is getting involved.

Most people overlook UALR for big named colleges (with big tuition), but through my experience, I do not regret choosing UALR. Overall, I received a great education and a ton of opportunities. Here's why I love UALR. 1. The majority of students here are on scholarships. I have my tuition fully paid for and they even pay me a stipend (extra cash from extra scholarships). I can leave college debt free and with money in my pocket. Because of worry free tuition, I was able to save up and buy a house (paid off) on my senior year of college. 2. I got to travel the world - for free! I got to study abroad summer 2010 and 2011 all expense paid, school, housing and round trip airfare thanks to the Donaghey Scholars Program and Benjamin Gilman Scholarship. Summer 2010 I went to Hanyang University at Seoul South Korea and summer 2011 at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. 3. I'm a graphic design student and there are never ending opportunities inside and outside campus to put the skills I acquired from the classroom in to practice! Teachers are always offering internship opportunities, freelance projects, volunteer, etc. 4. Teachers are very friendly and approachable. Small classroom sizes make it easier to connect with teachers. Some teachers will have lunch or dinner with the class. It's a very casual, yet educational and comfortable learning environment.
