The state takes quite a hit as 'backwards' but when it comes to the students I think the only stereotype would be how sports minded they are. It was classified as the ultimate party school in the 80's by Playboy (I believe it was 'in a class by itself' but that was a long ago issue lol) but that's not really true.
The major stereotyoes consist of laziness. Students and faculty are unaccepting of outsiders or new ideas and they kep to the status quo. Arkansas also has a reputation for being an old boys network town with very little tolerance for minorities!
Mostly fraternity and sorority people. They are annoying rich white people, and they run virtually everything. If they have a party on a weekday and you live nearby, you might as well find some where else to sleep cause the police are on their side.
A lot of people say that Arkansas is a huge party school, which I don't really agree with. I mean it's a college and there is a lot of partying but that is not the only thing to do around here. A lot of people say that you won't fit in if you are involved in the Greek community but I disagree also. I love my sorority and it is an amazing thing to get involved in, but I have just as many friends that are not Greek that are very involved in the U of A.
poor white trash
Blonde girls, handsome guys; "poofed" hair-do's for females. Crazy Student Section!
Arkansas citizens marry their cousins--not true
Arkansas Education is really poor--not true
Arkansas is a poor state--not true
Arkansas Sorority girls wear a "poorf" in their hair--true
Arkansas Sorority girls wear designer jeans--partly true
We are excellent students. We are all about our grades!!!!
Arkansas - Backwoods, very rural, low education/literacy level
Arkansas Students - party heavy, country
I think the main stereotypes are frat boy/ sorority girl, hippies, and the goody goodys
all Greek life.
All have southern accents, All have poofy hair, All frat guys where all polo, etc.
We drink and party 24/7.
Dumb, redneck, poor
A lot of people have a tendency to stereotype Arkansans as being less intelligent. I am from Texas and know that a lot of people think that some Texas kids come to Arkansas because they didn't get into any Texas schools cause they are harder to get into it.
That we are hicks and are not smart. That we live in houses that are a wreck.
I think one of the main ones is that we are just big hicks that party alot.
that were all hicks
that we're southern hicks who don't wear shoes..
People are shallow and rich.
Arkansas is a bunch of Rednecks.
that they are all redneck hill billies who marry their cousins or into their families. arkansas is a party school.
People think those in Arkansas are hicks
that its a total party atmosphere
There are stereotypes that people from Arkansas are hicks. The guys are all good ol' boys and enjoy hunting and fishing. The girls are southern belles and come to college to get married.
we're hicks, all the girls are stuck up
It's a party school that is obsessed with greek life. That all the girls wear uggs and guys wear north face jackets.
I am not sure.
some think we are just a southern university and a total party school...and theres a stereotype about the kappa poof! which is a hairstyle worn by the kappa sorority at uofa
that we are hillbillies
Too Southern. Everyone is from Arkansas. Way to obsessed with Pig Souuieeeee.
most girls are getting there MRS. degree and all the guys do are party, very liberal, redneck
hicks, crazy sports fans
Arkansans are dumb, don't wear shoes, don't take care of themselves, uncivilized, etc.
crazy, party animals...
The students are very clicky and not openly friendly.
I don't really know of any stereotypes that we have. We probably do about our drinking or parties. And since it is Arkansas and people think that all Arkansas is is a bunch of redneck hicks than probably that we are stupid and that the school sucks. But I don't know.
That we are hicks, aren't as smart as the Northern schools
The most common stereotype I heard before coming to Arkansas was that all girls dress up for class and wear heels every day.
That we arent smart and do not wear shoes.
The fans are AMAZING--Arkansas has the most loyal fans. Supposedly the UofA is somewhat of a party school, but I think it's within reason without being alcoholish. I'm a sorority girl, but I know stereotypes for sorority girls aren't too good. However, I DO know that those stereotypes are inaccurate. Each house has girls of all different personalities. UA has a good rep for being a beautiful campus--which of course it is :).
we're hicks, rednecks, ignorant, racist, barefoot, don't have teeth, have bad grammar and country accents, marry our cousins, and get pregnant as teenagers. And the students party a lot.
Partiers for arkansas students. Hicks for arkansas in general
