Where is the best place to get work done on campus?

Marston

This highly depends on your noise tolerance level. It is great for groups to work on the first floor of Moffit library, since the noise level is relatively low and it is not faux pas to speak. Most other libraries are completely silent, so you just want to target a time when you can grab a seat: earlier in the morning or on an off-day when there aren't midterms. Free Speech Movement cafe in the Moffit library is always full, and is very noisy. So, as you might have surmised, it really isn't worth the effort. There are quite a few other cafes that are alright, but you may have to tolerate some stuffiness. On a nice day, I recommend sitting out on Memorial Glade and soaking in the sun while you read.

It just depends on what you prefer; there are plenty of places outside for you to study in the wonderful sunlight and breeze; there's a ton of space inside any of Berkeley's handful of libraries. The main stacks of Doe Library tend to be pretty crowded, but you just need to find the right nooks and crannies. Moffitt, too, is a great place, provided it isn't dead week. If you don't mind working with some noise around you, and like having a drink or meal at your side, Free Speech Movement Cafe is a great place. Everyone else tends to agree, which is why it is so difficult to snag a seat inside. You're better off trying the balcony just outside.
