Tell us about your professors.

Classes at UCD varies from 15-300 people, which may seem like it will be hard to get to know your professors, but definitely not. They have what is called "Office Hours," which is a time outside of class that students can go to if they have any questions. The more you go, the more you will get to know your professors. I really like some of mine, because they are very helpful and enthusiastic about the subject they are teaching. Some will tell you stories about their life, which is very interesting to hear. Your relationship with your professors really depends on how much effort you put into it. For example, one of my smaller classes, we went to have lunch with our professor. Everyone had a great time (and no, it was not mandatory to go).

The great thing about professors at UC Davis is that they actually care about what they are teaching. You can tell that they are passionate about the research they have done and are doing and this makes students feel like they are getting their money's worth. There is a relatively wide age range among professors. I currently have one who is a mother of a 5-year-old (she never lets us forget that, with all of her stories of the trouble he gets into) and another who is a father in his late 30s. I also have a professor who reminds me of my grandma- she is so cute and sweet! She likes to tell little jokes and stories about when she was our age...what else is new? :) Overall, the professors are great and really do want their students to succeed. They are approachable and always available through email, office hours, and after class. The TAs are also very helpful and often easier to get to know on a more personal level.
