I wouldn't say the stereotypes are true about Davis We do have a solid amount of agriculture majors and Asians, but for the most part, the diversity is what makes Davis so interesting.

There aren't really any stereotypes associated with Davis. We're all really friendly and all really accepting, the major difference at our school is we bike EVERYWHERE.

On of the worst stereotypes UC Davis faces is that many people believe the student body is composed solely of UC Berkeley rejects. Personally, I was accepted in various colleges including Berkeley, Stanford, and Vanderbilt. And while it is true that many Davis students also applied, but did not gain admission to Berkeley, that does not detract from the intelligence of the students on campus. A stereotype that is true, however, is that Davis has a vibrant student body. With over 500 student organizations and a total of 66 fraternities and sororities, there is something for everyone. Organizations range from the Historical Fencing Society to the Agricultural Law Society, thereby giving students a chance to experience all walks of life.

Well there is a large number of environmentalists here at UC Davis, otherwise known as "hippies". I wouldn't say the majority of the student population are "hippies" but there are a good amount of these students who are very passionate about peace and global conservation. You can also say that UC Davis, like many of the UC schools in California, has somewhat of an "Asian Invasion" population. Some may think these Asians are not Americanized, but the majority of the Asian students here grew up in the States and are really tied with the American culture. There are a few stoners and jocks, but you can't really pick them out when you see the students on campus. We're all pretty much one big happy group of Aggies. UC Davis has a lot of Frats and Sororities and I guess you can say UC Davis "frat kids" know how to party, but they are also studious bunch of people. I myself am not a frat member, but I have a good number of friends that are and they enjoy it. Basically, UC Davis is a diverse university. We have all the stereotypes you can think of. But hey, every college has some stereotype right?

When people think of UC Davis at least one of two things comes to mind: tree hugging liberal stoners and/or farmers. Due to recent events, most of America now thinks of Davis students as protesting hippies. To some extent there are hippies who live in co-ops and grow their own food. To some extent there are many students studying to become veterinarians, plant scientists, landscape architects, viticulturists and farmers. Davis, as a city, really isn't as rural as everyone makes it out to be. There aren't cows roaming in the pastures. The Greek life at Davis is actually huge. We have a frat row where all of the fraternity and sorority houses are located. There are many different activities and groups at Davis, from theater and sports to public interest research groups and cultural clubs. The Davis stereotype should not limit you from doing something you love. You choose your own path once you get to Davis.

People also say that Davis is really Asian populated, although I think it's pretty diverse, but that may be because I am an Asian from a heavily asian-populated high school. I honestly don't think there is a stereotype - the school seems like it has a diverse population. People are generally kind and easygoing. Also, there are a LOT of Asians, like all other UC campuses do.

This may sound funny, but a common stereotype of the students at UC Davis is that people here are too nice. Everyone is so outgoing and friendly.

Let me tell you though-- the majority of students here are a lot more laid back than we are portrayed to be. Although UC tuition is on the rise, and yes, some UC students are protesting, not all UC Davis students are causing a stir. In fact, we're usually stereotyped as just "hodunk" small town kids (which, in reality, we pretty much are) not crazy hippies like at Berkeley or alcoholics like at Santa Barbara. We have huge amounts of fun when the occasion calls for it (like on Picnic Day) AND we know how to get good grades, all while being down-to-earth college kids.

Students at UC Davis are unique in their ability to uphold excellent academic standings while maintaining a humble, grounded, outgoing demeanor. Students here are welcoming and more than happy to dialogue and meet new people. As focused as we are here at Davis, when the weekend roles around, students are ready to have a good time and unleash all the pent up stress accumulated throughout the week. There really is no better student body to be found anywhere, period.

It is not as superficial as my hometown in southern California. Everyone at this school comes from different backgrounds and different cities, states, and countries. People are going to label different colleges based on stereotypes, but you are the only one who can decide if these stereotypes are true or not true by visiting the campus yourself.

As a student that attends UC Davis, I do not witness any stereotypes. I do observe that there are many different personalities and styles on campus, and that everyone has certain groups of friends. But as a general consensus, I am glad to say that students here have a friendly attitude, and are very accepting. I have personally made many friends that are from all different backgrounds and interests.

Movies and television shows depict college as a place where wild frat parties take place, where jocks rule the school, and where those who choose to take some time to study are labeled as "geeks" and "losers". But once one steps on the UC Davis campus he or she can see that these sorts of stereotypes exist only as jokes shared among students. Here at UC Davis, the terms "friendly" and "helpful" are the dominant descriptions of UCD students, faculty, and the community that surrounds our university. While students are academically driven and focused on their future, they are also always willing to help a fellow student inside and outside the classroom. UCD students not only want to succeed for themselves, but they want their classmates to achieve their greatest potential, as well. This stems from the friendliness that is UC Davis and the competitive, but not cut-throat, mentality. With so many different ways to get involved on campus, students can easily find their niche. There is no pressure to join a particular club or be associated with a certain group or organization. Students here accept and admire the differences that individuals have to offer, thus providing an education outside the classroom as well as inside.

In the end, the most important factor in choosing a college is a place where the student feels they belong and a place where they offer their major (if the student is sure of what they want to study). Because UC Davis is such a large university virtually every kind of student can be found on our campus. We definitely have our fair share of nature loving, outdoorsy types because of our close proximity to the Sierras. There are also a lot of academically enthusiastic students as well as talented athletes (Davis is a D1 school now). There are a lot of Greeks, but the students that are involved in the greek system aren't the typical sorority girls and frat boys. The Greek kids are very laid back and extremely friendly. Every stereotype exists on campus, although if you're looking for an indy druggie crowd you may have a more difficult time finding it. Overall there is no such thing as a typical UC Davis student because such a diversity of people attend this university.

The first thing everyone thinks of when they hear "Davis, California" is our "aggie" reputation; more specifically, they've heard of the cows we have on campus. Students here are stereotyped as small-town, agricultural, granola eating, Birkenstock wearing, quiet young adults. Once you get to Davis, however, your eyes are opened up to the reality of our campus. Davis is an incredible mix of all types: from the real life aggies (Animal Science majors, Horse Barn interns, community garden growers), to a plethora of pre-meds (Sacramento hospitals are always looking for student interns), to jocks (you can't go to a lecture without seeing at least one person decked out in a UCD sport's team attire), to sorority sisters, fraternity brothers, singers, dancers, painters, activists, thugs, hippies, nerds... you name it! Once people get here, they see it is impossible to lump our students into one category.

This "stereotype" is pretty accurate. The students here are really friendly which makes it easy to find a study buddy in your classes. If you have a question before an exam, most of the time, the person next to you will be happy to answer it for you. We all work hard and do not mind helping out a fellow student. The atmosphere here is very relaxing. When the weather is nice, you will find people studying on the grass area of the quad or playing a game of hackey sack.

I don't feel like any particular stereotype really exists on campus. People are free to act as themselves and not feel pressured to be somebody they aren't. I know this sounds like a cookie-cutter answer, but it really does hold true at UC Davis.

There is one word that I can use to describe UC Davis: eclectic. UC Davis, the 3rd largest of the UC's in term of enrollment and 1st in terms of physical size, has a huge range of groups that make up our student population. Just by strolling through the Coho (Coffee House) you can see Aggie band members, fraternity and sorority members, people with their heads deep in books, hippies, skaters, and almost any other group sitting down at tables right next to each other. If there is a group you are looking for because it is one you already belong to, or a new group you are trying to join you will be able to find them at Davis!

I believe the stereotype of students at UC Davis is to be very laid back and easy going. The student body is also very diverse here, you will have students interested in student government, greek life, dance & arts, sciences, cultural clubs, and so much more.
