What is the stereotype of students at your school?

Andrew

Well there is a large number of environmentalists here at UC Davis, otherwise known as "hippies". I wouldn't say the majority of the student population are "hippies" but there are a good amount of these students who are very passionate about peace and global conservation. You can also say that UC Davis, like many of the UC schools in California, has somewhat of an "Asian Invasion" population. Some may think these Asians are not Americanized, but the majority of the Asian students here grew up in the States and are really tied with the American culture. There are a few stoners and jocks, but you can't really pick them out when you see the students on campus. We're all pretty much one big happy group of Aggies. UC Davis has a lot of Frats and Sororities and I guess you can say UC Davis "frat kids" know how to party, but they are also studious bunch of people. I myself am not a frat member, but I have a good number of friends that are and they enjoy it. Basically, UC Davis is a diverse university. We have all the stereotypes you can think of. But hey, every college has some stereotype right?

Emma

Davis students are seen as VERY school spirited; ask them about their school and they will say nothing but good things (except maybe regarding the weather). Everyone in Davis rides a bike, and they are seen as active, laid back, and friendly.

Tristan

The students and all hippies and Davis only has a lot of cows and not much else.

Robyn

Some stereotypes include: great percentage of asian students, classes are stressful, people that attend Davis are uptight and all about getting the best grades and don't like to party, and that everyone is there for agriculture and that we all like farms/cows.

Charlie

I do not pay attention to the overall rumor mill about UC Davis or the student body. Although I should since I am a sociologist in training. I guess I should say that one overall stereotype is that UC Davis has a high proportion of East Asian students.

Dylan

That the frats and sorrorities are all intense party-ers That everyone's a farmer and a hick That the girls are hot and the guys not so much It smells like cows

KJ

Hippies, somewhat conservative.

Blake

Being a research school, I thought that a lot of these students would be stuck inside studying. But then there's also the stereotype that there's crazy parties...being so close to Berkeley. Then there's the stereotype that there's a lot of Chinese people...

Mel

alotta white and azns, annoying, loud, too outgoing campus is too big, too hot weather and too cold weather, too many bikes, unsafe

Ryan

It's an Asian populated group, courses at UCD are extremely difficult, and no means of communication with professors.

Ryan

That it is very competitive and very hard.

Kyle

A common stereotype about the campus in general is that many people seem to associate Davis with cows and farmland. The campus itself and downtown Davis are not even close to looking like farmland scattered with farm animals. The UC Davis campus is easily one of the most beautiful, developed, and modernizing campuses I have ever seen.

nicole

Davis students are nerds and academically focused with little involvement in extracurriculars and social activities. So because everyone is so focused on school and only school that it is not a party school.

Jay

cow-town, nothing to do, boring etc

Steph

Some stereotypes about Davis kids are that we don't have a life because we live on and near farm land.

Connie

Many people think Davis is a cow town - bland and empty, with little to do. Some stereotypes about students are that they are nerdy or hippie-ish.

michelle

that everyone is a science nerd, but there is so much more than science offered and all programs are great

John

Some people say we're all tree-hugging hippies. Others have assumed that there's nothing to do in Davis for fun. And I still get asked occasionally if I've ever gone cow tipping.

Sarah

Nerdy, Berekely students who couldn't get in to Berekely.

Quinn

Most people think UCD is a toatl farm school out in the middle of nowhere. Some people think the students are just hippie nerds or farm kids.

Lorie

Most students are asian, most people are smart

Jackie

they are very green and love cows

Michelle

That it is an agricultural school and there are cows everywhere. Also, that the people are nerdy and uly

Jess

the cows

jessica

There's nothing to do in Davis. It's a cow-town. It's full of Berkeley rejects.

Jesse

Down to earth and mellow. Diverse

Alex

Davis smells like cows. Davis is boring. Davis has nothing to do. Davis has no social life.

Melanie

People think that UC Davis is a "cow" college and that the students are a bunch of farmers or people who didnt get into their number one.

Ryan

There's nothing to do here. The land is completely flat. Cow town.

Charlie

That all students are just out of high school and that they don't have any opinions about the environment or government.

Abby

That there's nothing to do here and there are a lot of cows and farming. People assume that since its a small college town there's not much to do here.

Laura

I haven't really heard that many stereotypes - the biggest one is just that Davis is a completely agricultural town and that there isn't a whole lot going on in the area. People assume that we're surrounded by cows and pastures, with out anything else.

Liz

That we're hicks, we tip cows and go ice blocking. The the school is only sciences. That the whole place is just 30 people.

Jody

Cows; I hear this all the time. The fact is we have a bovine center doing pretty important research on Bovine populations, health, etc. A lot of us eat cows, so it's real important to keep up with understanding growth hormones, calf development, etc. Also, I hear there's nothing to do in Davis. I wish sometimes there was less to do; I'm always hopping from even to event. We have over 30,000 students in a city with around 60,000 people, so 2+2=? Young people party, dance, kick poetry, host bands, ski and snowboard, cruise to san francisco or sacramento, or otherwise make up random and fun things to do on their own, no to mention the clubs and orgs bringing tons of consciousness, activism, and change to our school, our community, our state...and our nation.

Alex

party, frat boy, sorority girl, gamer, cut-throat, shark, naive

katie

I'm not sure about stereotypes of actual students, but alot of people who don't go to Davis say "Davis is in the middle of nowhere".

Molly

One stereotype is that we go cow tipping. Another is that we all want to be veterinarians.

jennifer

that the people are laid back and friendly, but also that davis can be boring.

Andy

Two stereotypes are that Davis is a boring school and there's nothing to do.

Julie

Davis is a Farm Town with Hicks and it smells like cow.

Samantha

that we are an agricultural based college campus, where cows are everywhere and there is "nothing to do in davis"

Holly

-grades are most important -highly competitive -good professors are let go because of their grading habits -bad professors who grade "on the curve" are left in

Harper

I am sure if I had any UC Davis student stereotypes. But I did have a UC Davis of being nature like, since it is a rural environment it promised a lot of activities.

Casey

Everyone says it's a cow town and that there is nothing to do in Davis.

Alex

1. Lots of hippies 2. Lots of agriculture nuts

Winter

everyone is a premed or science major; cow tipping; everyone rides a bike

Chelsea

That this is just a cow-town and isn't scholarly.

Whitney

That everyone is a farmer and all we do it cow tipping for fun.

Molly

Davis is often stereotyped as a "cow town," where there isn't a lot to do. It's also considered one of the last few college towns in the country, meaning that about half of the town's population consists of students. It is also considered a bike friendly campus and town. I've heard that Davis has the most bikes per capita in the world, second only to Shanhai, China.
