What is the stereotype of students at your school?

Trisha

Asians.

Gene

Very studious and book worms - we picked a science library over a football team. That we don't know how to party since we don't really have a frat row.

Kristen

-They are all Asian -They are all Bio Majors -There's nothing to do in Irvine after 8pm

Stacy

Some stereotypes are that most of the students are Asian and that they are rich.

Blake

Stereotypes about UCI and UCI students: That UCI is just flooding with Asians and luxury cars, sometimes the two go together, sometimes not.

Andy

UCI is overpopulated with asians. It does not have a great social life. The students have no pride in their school.

michael

Among the UC-schools, UCI has a good reputation but is considered boring. The students aren’t known for being politically active, nor controversial. People who want to go to UCI will do so mainly for the academics – the word “party” is never equated with the school. Because of this, students are considered academically-minded and socially-average. There is also a huge Asian-stereotype at the school because there is a large Asian-American population at the school. I’ve heard the school being referred derogatorily as “The University of Chinese Immigrants,” and new students on campus say as a first impression, “Wow, there are a lot of white people here. I thought I would see nothing but Asians and rice-rockets.”

KJ

Commuter school, rejected from LA, nerdy, boring.

Cameron

-many Asians -mostly commuter campus, many people go home on the weekend -school for people who didn't get into Berkeley and UCLA

Sandra

One of the stereotypes are that UCI is the "university of chinese immigrants," which basically means that UCI has a lot of asian students. Another stereotype is that UCI is full of rich, spoiled orange county kids who flaunt their money with nice cars and brand name clothes and accessories.

Sasha

Stereotypes that are common with UCI students include slangs for what "UCI" really means, which include the "University of Chinese and Indians." Although your student population includes a large majority of Asian students, the entire UC Regent system is heavily populated by Asian students. However, during the past 4 years at UCI I have come to appreciate the diversity our campus has to offer and believe it's good to meet people with different backgrounds.

Perry

I would have to say that the most common stereotype that I hear about UCI is that we're 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} Asian and a huge commuter school. Apparently we're also anti-semitic and anti-Muslim. Also, I often hear that the students are really apathetic on our campus and that there are never any parties.

janice

I don't know a particular stereotype about UCI in general. However, there are some stereotypes about the types of people that go to UCI. For example, greeks, specific majors, not as good as UCLA. So, for the greeks, they are viewed as people who are well off, dont' care much about the important things in life, etc. For bio or engineering majors they are viewed as the brainier ones, nerds. So

Andres

There are many students of Asian decent. UCI has also become the UCLA-Rejects school.

Kyle

That everyone who goes to school here is asian or socially-retarded. Irvine has no college town and sucks for students. White-bread suburbia. Commuter campus with no night life.
