Lots of diversity, very strong cultural organization and very strong cultural programs and resources for students. Easy access to professors, and professors that liked to see you do well.

Matthan

It's a new campus that is rapidly growing. New buildings going up every semester. It's also ethnically diverse, lots of different cultures and ehtnicities roaming the campus.

The student body is closely knit together because of the size of the school. New students are welcomed into the school and are able to make friends easily. The school's clubs/organizations also play a large role in the student body being so close. The clubs/organizations all get along well and each member who joins feels comfortable and feels welcomed, and if there is no club/organization that meets their needs then they can go ahead and gather more people with their own shared interests.

Jesse

Small, rural town with possibilities. This is a new school. The general rule here is 'if you don't like it, change it!" As a new school, there are no set traditions, no stagnant mantras. We, the founding student bodies, shape the university.

Rob

If you like cows (in every kind of way) this is the place.

My school is the first university of the 21st century. We are also one of, if not the, greenest campuses in the world.

The small population of students makes it easier for a student to have more interaction with a professor. I believe the bond between a student and a professor is vital for future success, not to mention, inspiring. The quiet and calming atmosphere of the university also drew me to this particular university. Regardless of the peaceful atmosphere, there are many events available should a student ever look for something to do.

Elsie

UC Merced is no where near enough to a big city. It really is all country and small town and the campus itself is pretty far from the town. It's like its own little world, unlike the rest of the schools I applied to which were all in the city.

Rebecca

UC Merced is one of the most unique schools, first, because of its size. It is the most recently built UC campus, although it has the feel of a more established UC. Why? Because the faculty, staff, and students realize that it's not that often people have the opportunity to be pioneers of sorts. That is, as the newest UC it has that established feeling; however, everyone who is a part of the school contributes to make it unique and successful on a daily basis. As students, we have the power to be a huge part of that!

Michelle

it's newer

Shannon

Our school is small and we get to know every one in personal level. We can get help from all the faculty and staff and every one is willing to share their experience in order to make the students experience better.

Alejandro

My school has a very small community and therefore a lot oppurtunity to interact with professors and administration.

Marie

It is a very small campus where I really enjoy that all of my classes are taught by my professors. Classes are small which helps students form connections as many of my classes are shared with the same students.

Kathy

UC Merced is a brand new school where nothing has yet been decided. The people who attend it are not looking for titles and prestige but for adventure and education. It's small enough where I feel like I matter, that I'm not just another number, but growing fast enough where what I do will make a greater impact in the future.

Vinh

UC Merced is a very new UC. It's only been open for a few years, so it's small and constantly changing with the students.

Jasminn

There are numerous research opporunities for undergraduate students.

Stephanie

I am part of the first class, so being able to know most people on campus is rare at a University. We have a small school so creating close relationships with professors and faculty is easy and most beneficial when recommendation letters come around. It is easy for us to receive days off of work when working on campus. Being the first class, we have a lot of connections when wanting a guest speaker, rooms reserved, facilities assistance, etc.

Kevin

I research with highly known professors in solar energy. The crazy thing is its outside my major, no other UC could offer me this.
