Diverse, down to earth. People either hate it here, or embrace the notion of being at a new university where you have more of a chance to shape the direction of the school than at any other university. That is what I find exciting; the chance to get in on the ground floor and help determine the course of a large institution.

Very welcoming and willing to help. Lots of study groups are formed between students. The majority of students at UC Merced are involved in campus clubs and organizations and actively participate in on campus events. The students here have really taken it upon themselves to make this school a huge family. Its amazing! I've never felt more at home, as soon as you get here you fit right in, and you'll never want to leave. All in all students are amazing and so warm and welcoming.

Classmates are very upbeat with their work. Students tend to form study groups and help each other out. Usually if I am struggling there is always someone I can turn to for help. I would say that the social and academic life on campus is very well balanced. That balance is possible thanks to the support that students give each other.
