I didn’t really consider the value of diversity in my life until I became a Highlander. Classes, though large, are filled with students from a wide array of nationalities and socioeconomic backgrounds. There are student resource centers for many minority groups represented on campus, but all are open for anyone to visit regardless of identity. Pockets of likeminded people who bond over sharing the same niche interests form the over 500 clubs that exist on campus. There’s really nothing that feels homogeneous about this university, except for maybe the distinct feeling of desolation students often experience while waiting in the always-long line for the Financial Aid office, or maybe the anxious frustration that builds from fruitlessly driving around the overcrowded parking lot as the clock ticks down to the start of class. In the center of campus stands the Belltower, which has its own Twitter account (started in 2012) that updates its followers on the time with a “BONG” for each hour followed by AM or PM. Surrounding the tower are the large patches of grass where student clubs, sororities, fraternities, and other organizations set up their tents and tables to recruit members or advertise. Every Wednesday, the Associated Students Program Board, which oversees programming campus entertainment sets up a stage for a different live artist to perform. Even if you don’t have time to stop and watch, you can still recognize the ambiance from the speakers and the energy from the crowd as you make your way to class. This is the same patch of grass used for the graduation commencement ceremony. Four years of walking back and forth around it led to walking across a stage set up right in the middle of it, with my family and friends cheering on my greatest achievement in life so far. I’m proud to call UCR my alma mater.

I absolutely love it. It is a quiet campus with a wide variety of opportunities to expand socially and educationally. The amount of programs offered is fathoming from beekeeping to videogaming. Moreover, the student hold a great enthusiasm and speak intelligently but in a manner where it is respectful and easy to understand.

My overall opinion as a visitor who will be attending in the fall is mainly good. There are some things I wish were better like school spirit and more sports, but that's just something I'll have to deal with. I think the academics are good and its a pretty good school with a lot of diversity, which is always a good thing.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

It is a very diverse campus with people from all different kinds of backgrounds in the United States as well as internationally, the majority of the population is Asian so for the future students who are not used to being outside of their ethnic community it can be a huge culture shock. The professors truly do want to be engaging and want everyone to participate. The are outside of the school campus is debatable so make sure to go out with someone and never alone out during the dark.

The school can improve on the sizes of their classes and the professors they have. Also, the food isn't always the best in the dining hall and there aren't many options for late nights. The meal swipe system is a bit weird too because you can only use one swipe for one meal time, and if you accidentally go early for dinner, it'll count as lunch and you would have to use a guest swipe. Other than that, UCR is a friendly place.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

UCR is a research school so professors are up to date on their knowledge and are putting in the work in their field. I have only had a few bad professors but most of them are available via office hours or prior scheduling. Because it is a research school there are constant opportunities to be a part of compensated studies. The buildings are constantly being constructed or renovated, and the campus is relatively safe.

UCR is a great experience if you live on campus. It is hard for a commuter to be actively involved. I have not seem much programs or clubs/activities that specifically help commuters have a good to great experience on campus. I wish there were better food option on campus because the HUB is not too diverse.

For a school that is it really so selective, UCR seems to be full of life and opportunities that would encourage students to be a lot more involved and also to have fun.
