UC Riverside is a great university to be a part of. I am looking forward to seeing new faces. The orientation that I attended in July gave me an idea of what it's like. Definitely hot. But other than that, I was really happy. I'm looking forward to the new beginning.

The campus is big and grand. I love being here and seeing everyone enjoying themselves around campus. It is truly an inclusive space to explore and grow. If I could I would just continue to take classes and acquire degrees because it is such a wonderful academic environment.

Coming from a low income family UCR has provided a home away from home to me due to its diversity. I can easily relate to other individuals about my social status and the struggles of being a first generation college student.

I personally enjoy the people I have met at UCR. The vibe is good and it is easy to get work done there. I appreciate the amount of resources available to students (academic resource center, the Well, student escort service, etc). One thing that is a bit disappointing is that there isn't very much to do for fun in Riverside; most things are in other cities and require a bit of a drive. But there is plenty to eat, and Downtown is not too far away.

I’ve been in this school for a year now and know more about this school than I did when I first came to UC Riverside during the fall. I lived in on campus and based on the experience I had, I can say with confidence that it really helps to interact with the people you live with. Not only does talking to the people in the dorms but also in your class. The people here are pretty friendly and most can be helpful. The staff and people working in the University are also very helpful and make their best effort to assist your needs. The professors are genuinely great and have enjoyed their classes. They take their time to explain things and when they have their office hours, it is the most helpful, especially if you are confused of anything. The T.A.s’ I’ve had were also very helpful and did their best to get us students to understand materials of the lectures if needed. The University in general was able to build a good atmosphere for my learning experience. The clubs are pretty helpful and entertaining. I like the little live shows that happen, usually the performances are either from the local community or students of Riverside. Yet, it is still interesting to see how the performances are still very entertaining and makes one see how many people are yet to be heard. Not only are the live shows good, but the plays and musical performances they have here are able to be performed very nicely and I’ve come to like them on a personal level. Overall, this school has made me feel more comfortable and easier for me to study here.

UCR is a school where when it is time for academics we take it very seriously, but we like to have fun. The campus is very diverse and the campus embraces all these different diversities. UCR is also a great campus to get research completed. The school offers tons of support for everyone with anything that they may need throughout their time there. I enjoy the campus because its my second home where I have my second family who supports me.

I honestly really enjoy being at UCR. The campus is nice and there are always new things to be found. Sometimes on days where I only have one or two classes, I would ride my bike around the campus to see what else my school has to offer. I check out the different buildings that are on campus, and I find that there is a lot of research for the sciences that goes on at the school. The campus is also very environmentally-friendly, and it even has its own botanical gardens and farm. The area surrounding the campus, however, isn't great, for the city of Riverside has a relatively high crime rate and poverty rate. The campus does however offer an escort service in which a student can request for someone to accompany them to their car or to their class if they feel the need to. There are blue poles all around the campus that act as a station where a student can request a safety escort and the escort can meet the student at that poll and then escort them to their destination. The campus also has their own police department, which also provides extra safety to the students. The phone numbers of both the campus safety escort and the UCPD are available to the students in case they need them. In regards to food, I like a lot of the on-campus eateries. I am a vegetarian, and there are a lot of vegetarian and vegan-friendly options at the different food places on campus, which is nice. In regards to extracurricular activities, the school has many student organizations such as fraternities and sororities, both social and professional, and many different clubs. There are clubs that are geared towards certain cultures, professions, interests, and hobbies. The school also has a brand new recreational center, with a very nice and large gym and pool, and it is completely free to the students. There are also many events that happen all the time at the school too. UCR offers its students free movie premieres (which I love because I am a huge film buff), free music festivals, job fairs, and many more events. There is an on-campus health center and counseling center, which can be useful to students (I took advantage of the counseling center because of rough times going on in my personal life, and they were very helpful to me). The school itself is very underrated. Many people refer to UCR as "UC Rejects," for it has a higher acceptance rate compared to some of the other schools in the UC system. Also, for many people (at least that I know of), UCR wasn't their first choice school (this goes for me, as well). This school isn't one of the more widely known schools in the UC system, such as UCLA or UC Berkeley. Even though this school is not as well known as some other schools, UCR is no doubt a fantastic school. The professors and faculty are very skilled and qualified in what they do and teach, and they are there for the students to learn and to help them succeed. From my personal experience, all of my professors and TA's were available whenever I needed them, both in class and during their office hours, and were also more than happy to help over email. Overall, UCR is an amazing university and I thoroughly enjoy my school and I am very proud and grateful to be a student at UCR.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

In all honesty, University of California-Riverside is a pretty good school. The facilities and the campus is clean, and I can say that we're pretty Earth-friendly. Sure, there may some cases around campus, but the campus is fairly peaceful. The students and the staff are approachable, and there is plenty of ways to get help if you're struggling in any aspect.

UCR is a campus that continues to grow and develop each passing year. Honestly, the campus experience is all that you make of it and all the perspective you place upon it. Our campus is very diverse and open to all voices there are with lots of events and programs to support those voices and your education.
