Describe a day on campus you'll never forget.

My first homecoming week was awesome on campus there are so many people and so many attractions. The fraternities and sororities have their booths lined up with food and things for sale or giving things away. They have Scotty the bear great music and chill people. Awesome day in the college life.

Every year when fall quarter starts, we have a huge concert called Block Party where celebrities come and perform. The whole school gets involved with club booths, arcade games, food vendors, beer garden, and of course the actual concert. For my freshman year, we actually had three tents with different celebrities / DJs playing at the same time.

Every day at UCR is unique, but the most unforgettable day by far was the day that I received my bid from Delta Gamma sorority. Coming from a small town, I knew that Greek life would be a fantastic opportunity to make friends & truly get involved on campus. October 4th was a beautiful, sun-shiny day in Riverside, and the students had finally begun settling down into their classes. I aced my quiz in Oceanography and bonded with my Creative Writing TA, and then made my way through the bustling HUB to receive my bid at the Fraternity & Sorority Involvement Center. The next 6 hours consisted of sisterly bonding, laughing, and growth. It was an absolutely spectacular day, and being a student at UCR made it all the more special!

Foster the People played at The Barn on campus. The Barn is an on campus restaurant that has live concerts every wednesday night. Prior to Foster the People breaking out onto the mainstream scene, they performed in front of a small crowd and it honestly was one of the greatest nights at UCR

I will never forget the day that the entire campus held a walkout in order to protest budget cuts and what seemed like an endless flow of people went by in an adamant protest raising costs overall for students. I've never seen students gather in those numbers a second time and the first time was definitely a great display of protest on the student's behalf.

It was my first day of my most recent Spring quarter, I think. I walked into class and the professor was taking attendance down (not too common, but there is the occasional professor that does). When he came to my name, he looked at me and said, "You're that guy who would always hang out at INTS, right?" This gave me pause because it had been two years since I had last been to the spot he was talking about. Every day that I was there, he would take out a tobacco pipe and smoke for a few minutes while we both sat on the third floor of the building in silence. After a few weeks of that, I went up to the fourth floor and hadn't seen him since. The man recognized me after two years even though we hadn't even spoken ever. There was also, in the first day of my first quarter, the English professor I had knew everyone's names and faces before we walked in the door. It was a bit odd.

I will never forget the first time my friends and I tried to hike to the C. Tried being the operative word, because we ended up on the wrong side of the mountain because we were hyper and just running around. But the sight of the stars at night and the lights from the city in the distance were mesmerizing, and we all still look on that day with fondness and retain our strong senses of adventure.

My favorite day on campus was the third Wednesday of the school year. I'd finally settled into the college routine, and I made my way to the belltower at noon for the weekly concert. After finding my friends at the Greek fraternity and sorority letters, I grabbed a Korean BBQ taco from a club's booth and sat in the bright sun to listen to a rock band perform. Laughing and eating with my newfound friends, I realized that this was the ultimate college experience so many cliche coming-of-age Lifetime movies are based upon. The freedom, excitement, and overall "newness" made this particular Wednesday one of my best memories here.

When the tuition hikes were first enforced in the UC system, many of the students on each campus protested collectively, including staff and faculty as well. On March 4th, the students who were not in support of the tuition hikes, including myself and the organizations we were connected with, marched in protest of the hikes. There were thousands of students and staff and the turn out was huge. Local news stations, and even ABC came out to film. I will never forget this day, because although we had a serious agenda, the protest was incredibly fun and exciting, and the energy was great. I think it was probably the most fun I’ve ever had on campus, and that’s why it was the most memorable day of school for me.

HEAT concert was fun. Hiking to the C for the first time was intriguing.
