Weekends at UC Riverside are very different than most universities. Because UCR has an unusually large number of commuters, as well as on-campus residents whose homes are nearby, the campus seems pretty empty on the weekends. Many students in the dorms go home on the weekends, so the HUB looks a bit like a ghost town. I happen to love it, though, because it lets me focus on my schoolwork and walk around campus without any student traffic! The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is open on Sundays, so you can just lounge around under the HUB umbrellas, sip your hazelnut latte, and read a few chapters of Microecon. The Greek community also throws numerous parties on weekends (if you're into that sort of thing), so you'll always find somewhere to go at night!

a typical weekend can be anything, but typical. Every weekend is completely different or at least for me. UCR is in the middle of some of the great places of California. We are less than an hour from LA and less than an house from Orange County. We are an hour from the mountains and an hour from the beach. Everything is accesible. One weekend you could be mountain biking, the next surfing at the beach. If you stay in Riverside, you could be downtown at the arts walk or at one of the hundreds of house parties that occur around campus. The possibilities are limitless

A typical weekend at UCR usually involves the majority of students returning home for the weekend, regardless of where they stay by/on UCR. Most students are from cities close to Riverside and take advantage of the weekend to return home to visit parents and other family. Those who do not go home are those who are usually busy with jobs or working on other projects. This does change drastically as during exam weeks the majority of students remain by the campus to study.

A typical weekend for me at UCR includes a variety of activities. Being in the dorms allows constant access to other students, so we will hang out in the hall lounges, go on hikes to the C, grab food or a movie at the UV or sometimes find someone with a car and take the drive to Moreno Valley to get IN'N'OUT. Studying is always a part of the weekends as well, because when in college, unlike high school, you have a bunch of scattered free time during the weekdays.This time is great for relaxing, naps, and light studying but the real work can be put in during the weekends for me. And of course, parties at night time!

For most of the UCR students... Nothing much. Quite a few of them like to leave or lock themselves in their rooms. There's always something going on not too far off campus, though, if one knows where to look.

During the weekends, the dorms definitely empty out because of how many kids live close by, but I still manage to find some fun. This is when your older friends will really benefit you, as well as your participation in student groups and clubs. The biggest party/socializing nights are Thursday and Friday, so try and make your Friday classes easy ones. House parties and kickbacks are commonplace, and if you want to drive to LA there are tons of clubs and bars there. If the party scene isn't your thing, you can hang out at University Village, which has a bomb sushi restaurant, newly renovated movie theater, and other dining options. Overall, expect the end of the week to bring excitement and Saturday/Sunday to bring some much-needed study time: after all, we're here to learn ;)
