I haven't had a full experience on campus due to COVID. However, so far classes have been amazing, and when I visited the campus once the environment was very nice and it felt safe. There were a lot of open spaces to contact anyone if you needed help. Also, the campus is beautiful and I can't wait to live on campus.

I think that UC Riverside has an amazing campus. I also think the faculty and students are all very supportive in your personal and academic goals. I have found that UC Riverside is very helpful during the journey of every college student, and they offer many different opportunities to continue your goals but also broaden your horizons.

The University of California, Riverside was not my first choice. I applied as my safety and had big dreams of being accepted into big name colleges such as UCLA and USC. I arrogantly thought that I was so much more worthy than UCR. Months pass and my college decisions come in and to my dismay, I was rejected from UCLA and USC. Although I was originally sad and felt a multitude of emotions from regret of what I could have done to have a better application and just being so upset at my lack of success, once I took my first tour of UCR, it almost terrified me that I knew secretly it was the one for me. Backforward to months before all of my college decisions came out, I had already received my acceptance from UCR and decided to visit with my father, because why not? I was in for a surprise. Compared to my prior experience in other campus tours, UCR, by far, was the most friendly, organized, and genuine campus of them all. From the very start of check in, the receptionist told me UCR had a gift for me. Behind her desk, the receptionist brought out a blue lanyard with UC Riverside written on it in yellow. She responded sweetly, “It says here on our screen that you were accepted.” Along with the lanyard, she gave me a UCR bag filled with flyers and brochures. Not only that, but they related to the major and college I would be attending. Right from the get go, I felt so comfortable. I did not feel like a number like many other campuses I visited. I am not going to list names, but for example, other campuses I visited had brochure shelves where they made students pick out their own and get this, even pay for their own parking permit. When I registered for UCR’s tour, they had me print out a free parking permit. As it was expected to rain the day of my tour, many people did not come; therefore, they offered my dad and I a private tour. Throughout this tour, I felt a sense of comfort and belonging as the students and people I met were all so personal, a trait I really admire. Instead of treating me like any other prospective student, they were kind and sincere with their actions. To put it simply, UCR genuinely cared. They were incredibly patient and honest and the more I got to know UCR, I felt it was right for me. Comes fall 2019, my first quarter attending UCR, and UCR exceeded my expectations. I had some amazing professors who were some of the kindest human beings I have ever met. They gave me freedom to grow as a writer and learner and genuinely cared about their students’ wellbeing by being understanding of our other priorities and giving us life advice. After all, college is a time of growth. Ultimately, do not judge a school by its stereotypes. Life is full of surprises and UCR could very well be one of them. Pick the school you feel you belong in and will help you succeed both personally and academically. Don’t let the big names and ranks sway your judgment. That’s only half the battle. Go Highlanders!

UC Riverside is a good school to attend. Hailed as one of the most diverse UC's, the university possesses students from different backgrounds and nationalities. Although there is still work to be done regarding diversifying the student body, the university is constantly taking steps in the right direction. UC Riverside also offers numerous extracurricular activities for different kinds of interests which is great for those who want to get involved during their undergraduate and graduate years. Classes are an okay size - we have some large classes and smaller sizes. What I would say UC Riverside is best known for is its research. It is a very research-based school and if research is something you are looking to heavily get involved in, then it is a great school for you! There are so many ways to get involved in research (in all departments) and an abundance of resources available to those who do. Overall, UC Riverside is a good school and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

As your graduation day approaches, you will be told repeatedly about your potential to succeed. College will offer you an unmatched opportunity to build your own curriculum, shape your own future, and grow into the person that will face the professional and social world on their own. No one, however, will tell you that you may fail. Your accomplishments and your failures will be a consequence of your work. It is important to realize that as you begin your college career, you will be treated as an adult, and you will be expected to act as an adult. You will no longer be under the careful guidance of your parents and teachers. The freedom that this affords will be one of the best and most terrifying components of college life. As you move from adolescence to adulthood, there will be a plethora of available resources that can help to ease the transition. It will be your job to seek out and utilize this aid. You are responsible for making sound decisions, and seeking out help when necessary. Relish in your new found autonomy and remember, your potential is useless without action.

  4. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

University of California, Riverside is distinctively unique from the other schools I considered because UCR offered the entire college experience package. UCR is a humongous campus that offers dormatories, extra-curricular activities, diversity, and great education. I believe UCR puts great emphasis on diversity. The diversity among students is amazing. There is not one ethnicity that dominates the others. The ethnicity is spread apart within the students and the professors. I believe this is important because it allows future prospects to feel welcome and comfortable when making the decision to attend the University of California, Riverside.

The key element of education of the University of California Riverside is a variety of opportunities provided to its students. 16. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Everything at UC Riverside is uphill--or, at least, it feels that way. It's a beautiful campus, right up against the Box Springs Mountains, with citrus trees planted all over and around the property, but no matter where you need to go on campus, it's always uphill from where you are. I have mobility problems, and I put in quite a bit of effort into getting around this university. Still, I'm in better shape than ever with the amount of walking I do here! And the hills are worth it for the sunsets and warm weather.

For the most part yes. The student body is made up of at least 60 percent people who match that exact description. The majority of students who come from the "Bay Area" who were unable to get into Davis fit that description well, but there are a lot of local students who are very intelligent and hard working who attend this school due to geographic convenience, as well as scholarship assistance.

  21. Tell us about your professors.

The professors at UCR are just like those at any other school, some are great teachers who get a point across in an entertaining and efficient way that you learn well, others they are just like any other boring teacher in the stereotypical put you to sleep with their words kind of way. And of course several fall in between with their teaching habits. However all professors do have office hours where students can speak with them one on one about the material learned in class and no teacher obviously wants to be seen as a bad teacher and I've yet to meet a teacher who is not helpful with questions that are presented.
