You see nice homes, nice elderly people, and a beautifiul beach. Plain and simple.
If you go through the trouble of walking maybe a block or two, you can see a gorgeous view of the ocean and beaches.
Off campus there's a bunch of accounting firms and banks and stuff like that. For me, as a Business major - that's golden. It's like a basket of opportunities and it keeps me in check for the future.
One sees a juxtaposition of college students swimming in a sea of some of the nation's wealthiest people going about their upper class lives. La Jolla, though a nice place to live, is certainly not a college town in any sense of the word whatsoever.
When you step off campus you can see... The beach: -Black's Beach is right across the street from Eleanor Roosevelt College -La Jolla Shores is another beach close by--just take a bus for about 15 minutes and you're there; this beach is closer to Eleanor Roosevelt College and John Muir College. Shopping Mall: -La Jolla Village Square is only about a 25 minute walk from Revelle College or about a 10 minute bus ride. There you can find a Ross, Marshalls, Best Buy, DSW Shoes and a movie theater as well as a Ralphs, Starbucks and more.
Honestly, the campus is bordered by a couple of freeways. If you head about five minutes west, you can end up at a nude beach or even next to the pier where you can make s'mores with your friends. Downtown La Jolla is a pretty upscale area to be in for shopping or fine dining, but there are also some coffee shops there that students tend to study at. There are tons of great things to do in Downtown San Diego just a couple of minutes south of the campus as well. Oh and there are tons of delicious Mexican food joints all over that you have to try!
A ride on the UCSD shuttle bus.
