Giesel Library and Clics Library are good places to get work done. Price center is good for those who don't mind noise and Scripps Library is amazing for those who like to stare into the ocean as they study.
There are plenty of libraries on campus: the most famous being the Geisel Library (named after Dr. Suess). CLICS is another popular library , although it is currently undergoing some construction and maintenance. That said, there are plenty of pleasant lawns and grass which one can observe students frequenting as study or reading spots. Since San Diego is so sunny all year, it is a very viable option. In addition, all dorms have mandatory quiet hours every day (they start later and end later on weekends), and during finals week every quarter, they are enforced 24 hours a day.
Especially after many of the libraries closed because of budget cuts, the main library, Geisel, tends to be fairly crowded, especially during finals. There are students who study in Price Center (which is like a food court atmosphere). Students can also study in the biomedical library in the medical school, which can be less crowded than Geisel. There are also computer labs on campus where you can study, though some may require a code after hours (which you may have access to with different classes). Students who live on campus should definitely keep an eye out for residential lounges, such as Fireside Lounge in Marshall, which tend to be infrequently used and are still close to your dorm/apartment.
The best place to get work done on campus are Geisel library and the Biomedical Library. Geisel is the main library one campus; it has 8 floors and the farther up you go, the quieter it is. This is a great place to do independent study or maybe even group studying (they have group study rooms or you can study in the 1st and 2nd floor). The Biomedical library is also a great place to study. The place is incredibly quiet and people are very studious...it does get pretty crowded however.
A popular study area for UCSD students.
