What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Morgan

You are about to take your next step in life and you should know a few things before you do. Go to community college first to take care of all your general education requirements. You will save yourself a lot of money and the classes won’t be overcrowded so you’ll be able to choose the ones you want. While you are there make sure you think about the career you want to pursue when you transfer into a four-year university. Do a little research to find the best school(s) to apply to with regard to your career goals. Your social life is important but not so important that you let your grades suffer; make sure you find a good balance between your studies and your non-curricular activities. Most importantly, keep track of your finances, don’t overcharge your credit cards, but make sure you have one and you pay the balance every month. Study abroad, it will give you a cultural perspective and expand your network friends to an international level. And, remember to call Mom and Dad, they love you more than anyone else and they’re are living vicariously through you.

I would tell my past-self to take advantage of the clubs, student knowledge and surroundings at UC Santa Barbara. Try and do more international study. The experience I had going to Spain through extentions was unforgettable. I joined the Latino Business Association (LBA) during my last year at UCSB and I regret not joining sooner and joining other clubs related to me. I found community and help with my classes through LBA. No one needs to go through school alone and sometimes it feels like it when you are studying for tests or writing term papers. The students at UCSB are its greatest resource and they can and will make test and paper preparation easier. Be humble and know that you might need help from time to time and actively seek out that help with some of the brightest minds in the world. Take advantage of Santa Barbara, one the most beautiful cities in the world; beaches, hillsides, great restaurants, and history. Yes, I'm advising to go outside from time to time or else you'll leave wondering where this extra 15 pounds came from. Be fearless, get involved, try everything, and talk to everyone.

I would tell my high school self that being prepared & ready for college is alot harder than it seems. Make sure you are ready to go when you chose to. Dont rush into going just becasue its "the normal" thing to do. waiting to go was the best decision for myself. I would tell myself that life will throw your curves & college is one of them, if you do decide to wait, its never to late to go, but you cant get very far without college nowadays. Be prepared to stress sometiems, study alot & alwasy work hard. Its the only way you will make it through college. If college is easy, then You arent doing it the right way!

Amanda

Don't be afraid to try something new. In highschool you get set in the same routine. You and your friends do the same thing with the same people, so you don't have a lot of room to grow as an individual unless your friends plan on growing in the same exact direction. In college there are so many clubs to be a part of and new people to learn from. Don't be afraid to go to an informational meeting, volunteer, or talk to the person sitting next to you in your lecture (they are probably a lot more interesting than whatever yout professor happens to be talking about). When you find something that you like- go with it! And if it doesn't work out then try something new that looks fun. Also, don't worry about major requirements. It is very likely that you will decide on a new major by the end of your first year so don't stress about which math class or chem lab you are going to take because perhaps there is a a major that is more suited to you that doesn't even require those classes at all.

Laura

My experience at the University of California Santa Barbara has been a great one. My time there has helped me to become an adult, to think critically, to excell at research and interviewing skills, to become culturally diverse, and to gain leadership skills. The University has helped me to become independent and self sufficient. While studying Sociology I gained very valuable interviewing techniques and skills and was able to effectively communicate with my peers and Professors. I gained confidence at presenting in front of huge groups of people and never felt judged or looked down upon by anyone. During my class time I was exposed to many different groups of individuals and was able to learn a lot about them and their culture. This was very important to me because my sociological knowledge was expanding in ways that I had never imagined. With my education at the university I realize that I want to further develop my sociological skills and continue my education with the goal of a Master's degree in the field with the ultimate goal of becoming a Medical Counselor. My sympathetic nature and all that I have gained from UCSB has fostered my desired career path.

Tamara

Even though I have only been in college for a little over a quarter, I have discovered exactly what I want to do with the rest of my life. I have taken a variety of classes at UCSB that have opened up my eyes to possible carreer fields. If I had not attended college I would still want to pursue a degree in Aquatic Biology, which I had no idea what to do with once I graduated. After taking a human physiology class it was like a light build went off in my head. I was so fascinated by the content ot the lectures. I knew at that point I wanted to get a degree in Human Physiology and then go to physical therapy school after I graduate. College has helped me realize that I really do want to help repair people's injuries because I tore my ACL a year ago and I know what the healing process is like. I thank UCSB for opening up my eyes to my future.

Christopher

My college experience has been great. I am one of those people who doesn't party very often and likes to stay at home when possible. I ave been blessed with a good amount of luck when it comes to planning my academic life. I was able to transfer from my local Junior College after two years and I will be graduating with dual majors this coming spring quarter. I managed to accomplish all this by promising myself to not get stuck in my home town with the many of my high school classmates after graduation, and by keeping a promise to my mother, god rest her soul. I promised that I would continue my education, I will get a Ph.D. So what is the value of attending college? I would say that attending a university will test your character and will help reveal the kind of person you may want to become in your adult life. It is one of the greatest adventures and tests of my life, and I would continue to do it for the rest of my life, if that were possible.

Ilan

In just 4 short months in college, I have made great friends and begun on my path to become a theoretical physicist. I have access to excellent professors in an intimate setting. UCSB is beautiful and I love studying near the beach and also near my home. I have the amazing opportunity to live at home and attend a first rate University.

Aria

Going off to college was a very scary idea at first. Hundreds of miles away from home and knowing nobody, attending college has really expanded my horizons and taken me out of my comfort zone. I'm meeting new people and making connections with people beyond my expectations. My classes are challenging and require me to go out of my comfort zone. High school was very much a walk in the park and college has showed me that higher learning is really different. I have learned to appreciate the meaning of a college degree that much more and hope that after obtaining my own, I will be able to acquire a job that I love, even in this economy.

Jasmine

Going into college I was a person that was lost in the world. I had just lost what seemed like my entire world, my high school sweetheart and was about to lose the connection between my friends and family-or so I thought. I was a person afraid of change and I was not in the mood to embrace my world that was about to change completely. I walked onto campus and immediately felt care free and happy. There were hundreds of new faces-but none of them scared me. Hundreds of tall, big buildings-but none of them scared me. Hundreds of brand new bikes, and those definately did not scare me. I met the greatest people in my new dorm. In my new home. Those people helped me get out and live again. They helped me on those nights that I had to study for a Final the next morning, but were also with me as I ran the streets half naked in the traditional Finals Undie Run. No matter what the case, I know those people will always be by my side, and that is a priceless experience.

Shahaan

Through my college experiance I have gained the oppurtunity to meet and interact with new people from cultures that vastly differ from my own. and that has greatly enriched me. Other than this, I have been able to take part in various activities and immerse myself in the ongoing events that comprise of sstudent life and have hardly found time to stop. Most importantly though, i have learnt so much in college; so much that I do not think it would be possible for me to gain otherwise. In these ways, I think it has been a valuable enperiance for me and as I look ahead of me I see a few more years that I have in college and can only imagine the wealth of knowledge that is available for me to partake of.

Ricardo

Attending such a top-class research school as UC Santa Barbara has allowed me to become more intimately involved in the research process. Speaking with the top innovators in scholarship is further rewarding. Prior to coming to this school I was somewhat close-minded and rather conservative. However, being exposed to such a broad array of ideas and people has allowed me to become more accepting and open-minded. Though we do have our share of partying as any other school, we study twice as hard! Thanks!!

Anna

During my first year at the University of California, Santa Barbara, I have already begun to grow as a student and as a human being. Classes have challenged me academically and forced me to improve my study habits and time management skills. Moving away from home and living in on-campus housing last year challenged me socially as I had to adjust to living independantly and not having my parents around to make sure I behaved responsibly. I have also learned a lot about the world in general through the many interesting events and lectures that the University or campus groups sponsered throughout the year. It has been incredibly valuable for me to attend college thus far. I have interacted with fascinating new people from very different backgrounds and learned important life lessons from these experiences. I genuinely believe that any other university could not have offered me a more welcoming and nourishing environment in which to grow and I feel that the experiences I have had at the University of California, Santa Barbara have made me a better person who is more able than ever to achieve my full potential.

Sara

Currently I am on my winter break; I just successfully finished my first quarter at UCSB. Already I have learned and experienced so much. I have experienced the stress and struggle of studying hard to get those grades you want in your classes and the feeling of accomplishment that comes with it when you see the once ideal grades on your report card. I have experienced living with four other girls that I never met prior to moving in. Honeslty, they are all already so special to me and I know will be people that I will never forget because they've been part of my new chapter in life as a college student. I have experienced the crazy parties that I have heard so much about when I used to say i would be attending UCSB. All this experiences are valuable to me because they are shaping who I am and will continue to until the end of my college career. It is gradually changing me and all the struggles, accomplishments, mistakes and right turns, I know I will not regeret one thing because it will all prepare me for the big world outside of college.

Jabril

Attending college and studying in this field has taught me valuable life lessons and shown me that success is not easily gained but earned through hard work. Digital media is the perfect fit for me. I feel as if I told a story in the exact manner that people want stories to be told to them. No one wants to read the newspaper for the rest of their lives. No one has much patience for following magazines and tabloids. Digital media is the future, and I want to be leading the pack. I want to be taken seriously, and I want to show the world things that aren't being shown right now. I want to share stories of my community that aren't being heard around the world. I want to endorse local businesses that need support much more than big time monopolies that run the field. I want to promote the local artists who are deserving and extremely talented, but are not necessarily well-known or succesful. Most importantly, I want to clear the way for kids like myelf. As I mature, I find it less important to worry solely about myself, and more important to help others.

Irina

My college experience has molded me into the hardworking woman I am today. In high school, I was lazy and did not really care about my education. Once I got to college, I made a promise to myself to enjoy college but still work as hard as I can. Now I have a 4.0 GPA and can honestly say that attending college has reversed my laziness. Attending college has been a life-changing experience in my education and in other areas of my life.

Barbara

College is not just for the young person fresh out of high school. College is invaluable for a person looking for a career change, locked into a dead end job, looking for new challenges, and/or maintaining knowledge on new technology to be prepared for advancement in an existing occupation. Today’s workplace demands multiple tasking aptitudes and abilities. Senior citizens possess various talents essential for business success, but they must continue to learn and add to their extensive wealth of information. Throughout the years, I have periodically returned to school for a semester or two. Now at age 70, I desire to return to college to complete my Bachelors Degree, and then pursue a Masters. People are living longer, and the age for retirement will eventually be increased. A mind is a terrible thing to waste, and I intend to keep my thought processes active. My work experience has been lucrative, rich, and rewarding, thanks to a good education. Even if I am unable to work another day in my life, I can still share priceless experiences with the younger generation.

Adrian

Even though I am only a college freshman, I have already learned quite a bit about myself as well as my trade. My ultimate goal is to open my own bakery and this scholarship will allow me to continue dreaming my dream. My family and I do not have much money so I already knew the value of a dollar. But being in college has taught me that I'm not the only person who struggles and that helping others is never bad. Instead of putting some extra money in the bank, I gave $20 to a stranger at school to pay for the rest of her books. I've learned that college is a place to gain necessary knowledge for a bright future but even more so, I've learned that college is a place to learn about yourself. As well as a place to experience things you may not have otherwise. I've met people that have changed my life entirely. I've met instructors who inspire. Now, all I have to do is aspire. And that will put the icing on the cake of my life. Thank you for you time and consideration.

Johnny

In today's economy, college is a must to provide for yourself and your family. While attending college and working a part time job, I've learned a few valuable things. For example, I learned that college is extremely different than high school. In high school, I made very good grades, of course, but i didnt study as hard as i am required to in college. In college, that extra step is what helps you to achieve higher goals. Second, I learned that the goals set for students are set higher than what was set in high school. If you step in the classroom the first day of a semester, the instructor knows you're there to learn and you will be tested to your wits. Third and most importantly, I learned that with new experiences comes new responsibilities. As soon as i applied for Shawnee State University, there were what seemed like books of paper work that needed to be filled out and filed. To sum it all up, college has helped me learn to study harder than i did in high school, helped me to set up and achieve higher goals, and helped me to become more responsible.

Lucia

I have been able to study abroad for 3 semesters and this has changed my life entirely. ALthough I only resided at UCSB for 2 years, it allowed me to fulfill my dreams of going abroad and learning/improving 2 other languages.

Christina

College has reinvigortated my passion for learning; no matter what the course, I always find something interesting. Some of the stuff I have learned will be stuff I will remember all my life. Another skill I have been blessed to learn in college is the art of time management. Since I am now on my own, I have to make my own schedule that includes a job, sports, studying, and social life; my parents are no longer in the picture to tell me what to do and when. Finally, I have made many valuable friends, who I have created many happy memories with. I couldn't be happier with my social life right now.

Rebecca

My college experience at UCSB has been as wonderful as it has been unique. Throughout the continuing process of discovering what I love- soccer played just for fun, dancing hulas and haakas in my Polynesian dance group ITO, climbing, hiking and kayaking-I have begun to discover who I am. I have realized that I, as a young student spreading awareness through various political and environmental activist groups such as CalPirg and TGIF Real Foods Challenge Internship and teaching others what I love as a kayaking instructor, have a voice and various knowledge and talents that I can share. Going to school in Santa Barbara has been the most rewarding experience of my life. I will never forget this campus as the place where I learned to value myself, my education, my interests. It is the first place I ever fell in love. It is a beautiful place, with its beaches and big picnic-perfect lawns and sunsets over the ocean. UCSB is diverse and can mean so many different things to each and every student, but for me, it has become a home, a place that has both affected me and (I hope) been affected by me.

Amber

I'm mostly greatful for the efforts of all of my teachers at my college. They are outstanding educators, trying to get to know each individual student and working around schedules to give extra help. They are the tye of teacher I would like to become. They have such insight and life stories that pertain to the course which is so inspiring that, because of one of my political science classes, I have chosen to go to South Africa with the Peace Corps. With their guidance and teachings I will be able to give back to the world in a great way.

Alondra

When you go away to college, you really do in a way get to see the whole world. There are transfer students, students from abroad and students all over California that you get to meet and learn from and that's one of the greatest things about going to college aside from studying whatever you're studying. Not only do I get to learn in class, but outside as well, from the people around me, to the community itself.

Marissa

Attending college has been an extraordinary experience me. I come from a family that is not well off in the financial department, so being able to attend UCSB has been a blessing. Being here on campus has been incredible. I have learned, not only to love myself the way that I am but to also not worry too much about every little thing that life throws at me. You have to roll with the punches or else life will kick you down. Even though I have only been in college for a quarter so far, I would never give up this experience. There are so many things that I have done in the last few months of my life that I have never done before. I have gained so many life skills while living on my own. I learned how to use public transportation and I learned to make a budget. At first it is definitely scary because you do not know anyone, but as time goes on it is easy to see that being in college is one of the best decisions I could have ever made.

Amira

When I was applying to colleges my junior year of high school, the most important thing to me was that I moved away from home. My home life wasn't bad or harmful; I was just getting tired of my little suburan town. I knew that if I attended college near home, I would never be able to learn the life lessons never taught in school - how could I grow up under my parents' thumb? Moving out was the most exciting and satisfying thing I have done in my whole life. Only in my second year of college, I am managing a home, paying bills, disciplining myself to do my coursework and so much more. This new found independence is something I feel every young adult needs to experience. Not only for the maturity they will attain, but for the realization of the bigger world around them. Two years ago I would have never gone anywhere overnight without a family member or friend. This year I am starting to plan my year abroad to study in France! Going away to college has been the most freeing experience and I reccomend it to anyone who wants a higher education.

Angelo

First off, getting to a college as prestigious and nice as UC Santa Barbara has been my goal since childhood. This school has built my character and given me knowledge to live life. The intelligent professors I have been lucky enough to be graced with have taught me discipline and hard work. This school takes me away from the domestic drama in my houselhold that I had to go through every day throughout high school. Instead of becoming a drug-addict like most of my friends chose to do, I took an alternate route and am pursuing a degree in Pyschology and Economics to better my life and the lives of those arround me. If I were to win this scholarship, I would appreciate it so much! Thank-you!

Malia

I have met so many people who have taught me things I never would have learned anywhere else. Every day is a new experience and a new chance to try out the unknown. If I'd stayed in my little home town, I never would have learned about all teh different way life can be or all the different ideas that can coexist in a society. It's been invaluble so far and I can't wait for the on coming years.

Derion

I've learned money management. I have three jobs and work to pay my own way through school because my mother has been laid off from her job of 15 years. I have become a self sufficient responsible adult. I have learned to commit myself to something and work hard to be successful. All the interesting things there are to learn really make school more enjoyable. The social life here is really great and i've met some really awesome people, and learned from the really not awesome people as well.

Carolyn

Being exposed to other students and professors with different ideas, opinions, beliefs, backgrounds, and experiences has been the best part of my college experience, making my first year at UCSB invaluable. I grew up in a very small, rural town where I would always know every single person in my class from kindergarten up to my senior year of high school. While being raised in a tight-knit community had its advantages, I could not wait for college. I was anxious for a new place, new people, new thoughts. And college has been everything I expected and more. Santa Barbara may not be a cultural mecca, but it has opened my eyes, thanks to my peers and professors. I was forced to rethink parts of myself that had been set in stone for eighteen years. I learned. Not just subjects like statistics or economics from my professors, but from my friends and fellow students. We all came together as strangers, from different places and backgrounds, and each of us offered a new perspective that helped us grow. Aside from educating me and preparing me for my future, I know it is the people and experiences that I will remember most.

Sarah

Idependence is the greatest factor I have achieved attending UCSB. Entering college, I did not fully understand what I wanted to do; what I wanted to become. I found that it is not manditory for you to create an abiding path. Going to college includes making mistakes and finding yourself. Going to college incorporates learning, and learning how to be an adult. Going away to college is like nothing else; an experience that can never be replicated. At UCSB I met hundreds of students all uniquely quirky and distinct, but all similar in their thirst for knowledge. Although my experience is far from over, I hope to persue a major that will suit me and provide aid in exploring my potential.

Erica

What I have gotten out of my college experience is nothing but great learning information in allowing me to geta degree abd better myself. I want a degree in Business and so far I have been so excited about getting my degree and continuing my education. I can't wait for my graduation so that I have a degree and then later on continue my education and get an even high degree then what I will have.

Mia

i have learned so much for attending college, and thats why i am futhering my education. I will be attending ECC in Rocky Mount, NC. in August for Respiratory Thearpy. I am a single mother of a three year old and i have done it all on my own with help for NO ONE. The entire timeive been in school i recieved all A's and two B's

daniel

The experience from taking classes that has allowed to make life choices and grow up.

Sence becoming a student at Columbnus State Community College, I've gained a substantual amount of insight in life itself as well as the hospitality industry majoring in chef apprenticeship. I'm looking forward to entering in the field with an upbeat and positive attitude with a strong passion for cooking and entertaining as well. In todays society, it is obvious that a higher education is all the more important to be successful in life and increase a persons potental. My transition into college came a lot easier than I originally thought it would and I now find college to be very enjoyable with intentions of being very successful in the field in which I chose.

Serge

As a non-traditional student, returning to college to finish my education became a challenge that, even though I knew it was worth it, I dounted myself in regards to whether I would be able to become the type of student I needed to be. Surprisingly, during my tennure at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, not only did I realize my potential, but my incredibly skilled instructors challenged and encouraged me in a way that was empowering, as I ultimatelly achieved a 3.47 GPA and an Associate of Arts degree. I look forward to finishing my education at the University of Albany over the next couple of years, and I look forward to the challenges my Political Science studies will bring.

Lauren

I have gained an education that would not have been possible had I stayed at a community college. It was and still is so valuable to me because it has allowed to grow as a person in ways that I never thought possible. I do not regret a single event in my college experience because everything that has happened has led me to the path that I am on now, and I am so happy with my life.

Freda

From my college experience, I feel that I have learned a lot about how the college system works the way it does. I got to know the different resources that the college offers and what kind of facility it is. Its been valuable to attend because it has been an eye opener to me, the academic and social scene. I truly believed in the famous saying that everyone says about how to be successful at UCSB, "you study as hard as you play."

Eileen

Basically, what have gotten out of my college experience is the chance to succeed in life. I hope I have gotten smarter and wiser too. I have done things that I thought were not possible for me. After I earned my degree in Economics, I settled down to motherhood. I can remember wishing that I could attend graduate school to become a teacher, but realized that I just didn't have the money then to do it. It seemed unsurmontable, but many years later I was able to get funding. This is a chance of a lifetime for me and I work extra hard every day because I know that I will never have the opportunity to do it again. My dream is a reality and I feel I have another chance at it.

Rhena

I learned that studying is really important. For the first quarter I treated college as I did for high school. I often put stuyding aside and always procrastinated. The results were bad. During winter quarter I tried studying more and paid more attention in class and the results were better. I also learned that it's important to have friendship in college. Being alone can be depressing and can result in serious depression and failing of classes. Having friends has kept my college experience wonderful and well worth it.

matthew

I love the cultures and ancient ruins of Central and South America so my fields of study have been Anthropology, Spanish and Portuguese. All these subjects have enhanced my travel experiences because I can talk to the locals and I can interpret and ask myself better questions about the ancient ruins I am exploring. I may be a bit old for starting a career in archaeology but Central and South America has so much to offer and so many diverse cultures to experience.

stephanie

I have gotten the ability to intelligently synthesize and utelize information in order to create a more cohesive understanding of a problem in order to find the solution. I have also learned that I am more than capable of leaving my mark on this world in a positive manner.

matthew

I have traveled a lot of Central and South America and have seen many archaeological sites and seen many different cultures. Since I have been attending school I now speak Spanish and Portuguese so I can better communicate with the locals and my anthropology classes help me to better understand the diversity of cultures and the ancient ruins that I visit. Everytime I travel I now have a little better understanding of what Im seeing and how to interact. My biggest thrill though came when I finally became fluent enough in Spanish so that I could communicate with native speakers and it also became much easier to interact and assimilate into the culture.

Samantha

By living in the dorms, I feel as though i got to live the college experience fully. I took part in sharing the bathrooms with forty women I have never met before, and went to the dining commons to eat my meals. Also I finally became responsible for choosing my own classes and making sure I went to class and did all the course work. By living here in the dorms, I feel as though I have become more responsible and more open to meeting new people. This is because when living in the dorms, you are put in a dorm with people you have never met before and it is up to you to get to know the people. It has been very valuable to me to attend college because besides the great education received, I have learned to be more comfortable with people I dont know and also I have become more responsible. Utimately have a good college experience is up the individual, because it is up to that person whether or not they will put themselves out there in order to meet to people and become responsible within a different environment.

Felicia

Community college has been great because its a much more affordable way to acquire necessary credits for a four year degree. I was originally turned off by the idea and started my college career at a private four-year, and transfered into community college to save money for a few years. The coursework has remained just as rigorous, and taking classes at little to no expense encouraged me to take courses in many disciplines, ultimately leading me to find my major. I'm now excited to be transfering back to a four year institution because I feel like I know the ropes and already have what it takes to succeed.

Lauren

So far, college has been an amazing experience for me on many levels. This is my first time living on my own, which has really fostered my independence. It is entirely new surroundings and atmosphere, where you are thrown from the comfort of your support system back home, into creating a new life for yourself. While of course the most important part of college is the education itself, the life lessons that are learned are sometimes equally significant. I have learned how to get along with difficult roommates, meet people from a variety of backgrounds, that otherwise I never would have gotten a chance to, and overall just develop myself as a person. I am double- majoring in Psychology and Business Econ, which leaves me with quite a full plate, but the general education requirements help me experience a wide variety of classes and subject matter, that I never would have thought to take. I have learned so much this year from my classes to my life experiences, that I never would have been able to back home. I wouldn't trade my experience for anything.

Hannah

I grew up in a very small town in Northern California called Mendocino. Growing up I went to pre-school with the same people I graduated high school with, a graduating class of 41. Although it was a nurturing, and very intimate high school experience, I was unprepared for the acadmics of UCSB. However, it was okay. There were plenty of avenues for me to take in order to succeed, from CLAS (tutoring), to counseling services, and my sorority. There was support everywhere and now I've never been happier at school. I've heard of schools that sort of just leave you on your own when you get there, but that is NOT the case here at UCSB. I feel like my peers and my neighbors are my family and I wouldn't trade this experience for any other place, or school, in the world. I could also reccomend this school to anyone, there's a place for everyone and no one is scorned for their beliefs or values, that's rare in a college.

Elaine

After taking a few years off of school I have been motivated enough to have a grade point average of 3.97. I?ve learned that you have to want to go to school in order to be successful in college. I have enjoyed my experience so far and I?m only half way done with my degree. Going to ITT Tech has opened my eyes to how many different careers I can choose from. Knowing what different agencies have to offer you get more of a general idea of how your career field will be and is helpful. After cracking down and deciding on an education path, I started classes and actually enjoyed them. I was actually nominated to be in the National Technical Honor Society in the within the first year. My mother knew that I was going to have to attend a trade school so that I would be focusing on my career. We have now been realizing how much my school is going to cost. Now I have been looking at scholarships and applying. It?s a great opportunity that no one takes advantage of, and I would generally appreciate every help I can get.

Fernando

It truly is an eye-opening experience to attend this prestigious university. Ive learned that the opportuniy that i have right now to be taught by people who are experts in their field, and have contributed to their study on a national or even international level, which truly astonishes me, shows that this is an ooportuniyt of a lifetime. Not many will have the privelage of experiencing this level of education. As for that reason i stress that i teach my younger siblings or extended family or even random friends of the value of a higher education. It aids in finding what one wants in life, what one wants to study, to live and to teach to future generations. It puts myself and others attending such institutes of higher education in a privelaged position, where great responsibility is endowed. It becomes a responsibility to share your mind with the world, to contribute and help those around us that are not as fortunate as we have been. The success of one individual does not necessarily mean that only that individual will reap the benefits, many others will be affected. I strive to show many others that it is possible.

So far i have only been at Illinios Valley Community College but I completly love the college atmosphere. Its so much different compared to high school. In high school not many people really took anything serious but in college it is completly the opposite. Everyone is going for something and they do not allow the little things to really get in the way. There are so many people who are extremly smart and I love that. It makes me feel that i want to challange myself even more so I can be in that ideal. I have made new friends who take crazy hard classes like Calc 3, Tam, and DE. I am going to Kishwaukee college next semester and plan on obtaining two associate degrees; both mechanical and archecticual computer aided drafting. Im currently taking classes like GD&T and Descriptive Geometry and developement drawing. I am also a tutor here at IVCC and I plan to be one as well at Kish. I have worked for everything that I have and I appreciate everything so much more then most would. Thank you for reading this application/information and I hope to hear back.
