University of Central Florida Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Vera

The worst thing about the school, well, the main campus anyway, is the parking. But any university you are going to attend has the same problem. I don't attend the main campus, though, so thankfully I get to avoid the horrid parking.

Tia

The fact that on-campus housing is very expensive and the students have to leave on break. They are not able to stay in the dorms.

kiersta

Distance. i have to travel 45 minuets just to get to my school.

joanna

I enjoy attending my school, it provides me with many opportunities I could not find at other institutions.

Mariana

The worst thing about the school is finding a good parking space.

Jessica

As I previously stated, the worst thing is the poor number of parking spots available to the large student body. I also don't like how quickly classes fill up. Required classes are sometimes full before you even have the opportunity to register for them, which can delay when you graduate.

Rachel

I think that the worst thing about University of Central Florida is the lack of quiet in the library. For a school with over 56,000 students, there should be more room and more stringent rules in place regarding the "quiet spaces." Although different floors are for different levels of study (group, private, quiet, loud), these are not usually adhered to. Quite often, one will be studying in peace and a group of four students sits at the table adjacent and begins talking. It's impossible to concentrate and asking them to quiet down only result in getting laughed at.

Ida McKenna

The worst thing about UCF is the number of students. Whenever there is a really great opportunity available to all students, you have to compete with 56,000 people. Despite that fact, the campus doesn't feel crowded, so I consider it a bearable evil.

Catherine

The fact that they allow graduate students to teach unsupervised. I mean, one teacher who is a graduate student that I have is EXCELLENT and I love her classes! However, another teacher really doesn't belong in the education field. He doesn't know how to teach the information so that it is relevant to the students in ways that we can comprehend. I try, but even though that WAS my best subject, I'm currently failing...

Brenda

UCF is a great campus with a lot of diversity and things to do but, in order to navigate outside of campus it is mandatory to have a car. There is no nearby stores without having to use some type of transportation.

Nathaniel

The single worst thing about the University of Central Florida is how easy it is to feel like just another face in the crowd.

colin

No sense of community around campus. Orlando is not a college town and UCF is a small blip on the radar. Traffic around campus is bad and not conducive to alternative forms of transportation.

Maria

I study at the Rosen College at UCF and it is like 40 minutes from there to main campus. The cafeteria at Rosen is very poor. They are open only a couple o hours per day. I think I have never seen it open. In the main campus there are a lot of different fast food restaurants. However, there is none at Rosen.

Nataly

The worst thing about my school would have to be the fact that the school puts so much effort and money into the construction of new buildings, the gym, and parking garages just to name a few. While these buildings are beautiful and are a symbol of the university's progression there are other buildings that seem to be hidden from the tours given to potential students. These hidden buildings are older and in need of renovation and a far cry from the modern representations that the campus has.

Jasmine

The worst thing about my school is that the Financial Aid process can drain you. Also, some professors are able to teach in their profession while others can not, and sometimes you can't learn with their style of teaching.

Kamila

The University of Central Florida is an overpopulated school. For example, the classrooms are mostly auditoriums exceeding over 200 students. When sitting in a classroom with a cornicopia of students, it makes it harder for each individual to ask a question and recieve an answer from the professor there and then. There is just not enough time during the class hour to answer everyones question.

Shannon

As of now, parking around campus is a hassle, but they are creating more parking spaces.

Lisa

There are many students who take classes at the main campus. Parking is pretty bad during the day, but UCF is in the process of building another parking garage.

Joshua

The worst thing about UCF would probably be the requirement of upper level electives still imposed on transfer students. The college which I transfered from was a state college and labelled their courses different and thus I am having to stay an extra semester because the classes I transfered with don't read as upper level for UCF. I believe that for transfer students a forgiveness of a certain number of upper level courses should be granted otherwise it seemes as though students who transfer end up being penalized for doing so by having to stay longer.

Charlotte

The worst thing about UCF is the availability of student parking but if you live in off campus housing the school provides you with a shuttle to campus from most apartments. So even the worst thing about UCF can still be avoided. I ride my bike to campus most days to avoid this issue.

Jessica

The worst thing about UCF is the parking situation. There is simply not enough space to accomadate all the cars that are driven to campus daily.

Allison

I have never had any problems at UCF, and I have absolutely nothing negative to say about it.

Mallory

The wrost thing about my school is wanting to receive financial aid and not getting financial aid.

Jeff

The worst thing about the University of Central Florida would have to be the amount of students attending. With so many students attending one school, being socially involved in many activities without being in a Fraternity/Sorority can seem very daunting at first, but once that first semester is over it feels like a lot of pressure has been taken off your shoulders and you feel much more at "home" on campus.

Katerina

The worst thing about the University of Central Florida is its course enrollment system, because it sometimes becomes impossible to enroll in a class that is necessary for your major.

Joycelyn

It is easy to fall into a routine here.

Julie

It is really hard to think of anything negative when I think of the University of Central Florida. But if forced to come up with something, I would have to say the parking. UCF is now the second largest University in the nation, and with that comes the problems with finding enough parking spaces to accomodate the large amount of students, not to mention staff that work at the school. I also believe that the parking should be free, but it is not.

Zoe

Honestly, there is nothing truly negative about my school. As a freshmen here at UCF, i couldn't be more pleased with the school from the beautiful campus to the wonderful teaching staff. i have yet to stumble upon a major flaw; this is a wonderful school that has fulfilled all my hopes thus far.

Cindi

The majority of my classmates, including myself, all had difficulty first starting out at UCF. Most of us had trouble with transcripts getting lost in the system, others had scheduleing problems, while others had housing problems. It took a few of us quite a while to receive an acceptance letter in the mail, longer than what was told to us. UCF is sometimes mocked to mean "U Can't Finish", but I have come to the conclusion this is certainly not the case, however "U Can't Start" is more around the corner.

Bradley

The worst thing about my school is the parking situation. There are not enough spots and the price is too high for a parking pass.

Crystal

The University of Central Florida lacks school pride and spirit that every college should have. Football games are never in 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} attendance, black and gold is represented properly, and there is a lack of kindness that should exude from every student. With such a large reputation, UCF should be able to pride itself on spirit and dedication.

Kencia

I think the worse thing about this school is that there is not enough activities. I like to be busy. Although I am still very involved, I wish there were MORE activities so that I am never bored of volunteering and getting involved.

Brooke

I do not like the fact that although I am top 20{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of my class, I can't seem to get any financial help - even when it comes to on campus housing. I wish that UCF would help me out, even in that way.

Victoria

I suppose the "worst" thing, would be that signing up for classes is a stressful process. Especially when there are classes you must take for your major, and they close before your enrollment date. The fact your schedule is up to chance based on the date you're assigned isn't fun. However, I'm not sure how this process compares to other schools so it may be better or worse in comparison.

Justin

The worst thing about UCF is potentially how long it could take to get from class to class. If you have a class across campus and you only have fifteen minutes to get there you will almost never get there in time by foot.

Isabel

The worst thing is when my son was trying to get information about internships for IT. Was really hard for him. In my case, everything is perfect.

Allison

Probably the single worst thing about this school is that the professors seem to be more concerned with getting a paycheck than actually helping you learn. If you fall behind or feel lost, don't give up trying to find the help you need.

Ivan

My only issue is that UCF seems to induct too many students without evaluating long-term indicators of these students' eventual success in completing the educational goal of learning, and attaining scholastic credentials.

Shaun

No college can be perfect. And my college is no exception. Many people find the huge lecture halls at UCF to be intimidating with over four hundred students in an auditorium ferociously writing down notes for an approaching test. I myself upon arrival thought I would eventually want a smaller campus. Im glad to say I stayed and is still among those four hundred students in some of my lecture halls. It can be challenging with so many people at a college and it isn't for everyone. But I value this new and huge family. Hopefully others will too.

Edward

UCF has one of the biggest campus populations in the nation with over 53,000 undergraduates. UCF is a great school but with so many people, it's easy to get over looked if you're not proactive for your future..

Matthew

The worst thing about my school, is the increasing size of our student body. The enrollment is nearing 60,000 students and it creates problems in many areas of college life. For students, the class sizes grow larger, meaning less intimate settings and for certain learning styles this is not efficient for succeeding in academics. Additionally, if the class sizes do not grow larger, than the university often offers less classes available in a semester so you may not even be able to enroll in a needed class! Finally, for both students and faculty: parking is atrocious!

Carly

The worst thing about the University of Central Florida is transportation. The campus is so large, and walking to class can take up to 30 minutes. If students choose to drive to class, getting to class can exceed 30 minutes! There is not enough parking for a school with over 50,000 students and parking passes are over-priced, sometimes exceeding $500. If a student does not have a car, navigating around Orlando is difficult because nothing is in walking distance from the main campus. A car seems necessary but also a financial and time barrier.

Jasmin

It's exciting that UCF is growing but that also means that the campus is very congested. The regional campuses are trying to keep up with the growth and has future construction projects in the works. The regional campus that I attend does not have a computer lab, although the community college does let us use their ammenities.

Alexandrea

I really love my school and if I could go back and start over this is exactly where I would want to be. One thing I don't particularly care for is the location. Orlando is a very expensive place to live compared to other schools like FSU or UF which makes the cost of living higher. I have learned that on-campus living is the best way to go when trying to save money. That being said it would be nice if UCF offered scholarships for living (on or off of campus) since that seems to be an issue.

Kathryn

Limited amount of parking.

Laura

As an online student, I think the worst thing is that there are not as many programs available online. If a student is unable to travel to the campuses, they are very limited in the majors they can choose from.

Ali

There are only two real downsides to this university. The first is the parking situation, which is understandably strained with the expansive student body. The other is a perpetual joke about the school: "Under Construction Forever." While it means our school stays current and we are constantly adapting to accomodate more students, it also means that open space is being rapidly consumed.

Gina

Something not the best about the University of Central Florida is that it is very large. So in order to meet others and get and stay connected it is a very good idea to join a club, organization, student government, extra-curricular activity, or a sorority/fraternity. Even if the school was smaller, these ways of getting connected are a great idea. However, at larger, public universities they are almost personally mandatory.

Susan

the parking situation, theres not enough of it
