University of Central Florida Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Marie

I think the only negative at my school is the parking situation. Sometimes it can be rather difficult to find a place to park.

Samantha

Under construction constantly. Lack of parking availability.

Rebekah

The bureacracy that abounds throughout the school system is unbelievable. Each department has their own agenda and it is hard to get them to communicate with each other. It makes for a lot of paperwork and aggravation for the students. The registration process is especially trying for older students. My case is unique which made the number of forms I had to fill out that much more. If you are the average student coming out of community college it might not be so bad.

Kaya

Class size at UCF can be very large. Some classes will have hundreds of students in it making it hard to ask questions and get the teachers attention. Also in large classes students tend to talk with eachother making it hard to hear the professor.

Jennifer

I consider the University of Central Florida to be almost perfect, but the parking can be a nightmare. For the first few weeks of a new semester, the parking lots can get crowded and stressful. But, there are always people at UCF trying to make the situation easier to handle. The campus police are always there to help, and students have even found new ways to help each other. Carpooling and off-campus parking shuttles help the environment, and are usually the easiest way to get to class on time.

A.J.

Nothing. Everything is Great.

Brianna

The worst thing about my school is the parking situation. Unless you arrive for a 7:30 AM class, it is nearly impossible to find parking in any of the student parking lots. Most students find out by about their first month of their first semester that they should get to the school at least thirty to forty-five minutes before a class begins in order to have enough time to drive around the school (sometimes twice) to find a parking spot.

John

The drawback to UCF is its sheer size. Being the fourth largest university in the United States, it is easy to feel insiginificant in the big picture of campus life. However, the small size of upper division courses and the opportunity UCF fosters in building relationships with fellow students of the same degree program make the large size less of an issue. Though large in size, UCF is very personal.

Chantal

I am not satisfied about the financial assistance at UCF. They'll give a small amount of money which usually does not cover all your courses, books, and other expenses.

Jean

Parking is the worst thing

Lauren

The worst thing about the school are the lack of parking spaces for students and faculty. There is also not enough room in the library to accommodate the number of students that attend this university. They have cut classes and increased tutition due to the recession.

Tashawa

Some of the classes are just too huge!

Heidi

The registration system -- as in registering for classes. They use a seniority system when assigning opening dates for students, so transfer students like me that UCF recruits end up getting put at the end of the line. I'm having an awful time finding classes every semester and I'm ending up with mostly elective credits because the classes in my major are almost all full by the time I can resgister. Unless your a nursing, education, or criminal justice major good luck finding classes as a transfer student.

Tracy

The size.

Ashley

The University of Central Florida is a wonderful educational institution; however, since it is a rather large school, I would have to say the worst thing about UCF is sometimes it gets too crowded during the week days.

Erika

If I have to look for something to be wrong with the University of Central Florida, I would have to say the little money that is given to students when books are being sold back. I am sure that this is a problem at every school, but it is still very disappointing buying a one hundred and fifty dollar book and getting fifteen dollars back for it. Especially considering the cost of everything else it is just one more thing to add onto the withdrawal bank statement.

Jaymie

I would consider the parking to be the worst thing about my school. Some students drive around in circles, for so long, looking for a parking space that they are late or entirely miss their class. Also, I cannot think of anything else that is bad about my school.

Michael

The lmited number of parking spaces. UCF is ranked as the third largest school in the country in terms of student body. There are approximately 50,000 some odd parking spaces, and (I'm speculating) approximately 4 times as many students.

Willow

Timeliness. I wish administrative facility would respond to emails, phone calls and faxes in a more responsible fashion. They put your problem on hold and sometimes do not take action unless you nag them about it.

Emmanuel

The parking situation. There are days when students miss class because they can not find a parking spot to leave their car. We have 53,646 students and only about 11,000 parking spots on campus. They are always trying to improve this situation but as of now it has not gotten any better.

Michael

The worst thing about my school is the parking situation. My school has 50000+ students and only ablout 10000 parking spots. This makes getting to class harder if you live off campus.

Gunio

I would have to stay parking can be a drag some times

Brandon

There are no thoughts in my mind of anything that makes my school horrible, it truly is great.

Matthew

Lack of support for working professionals that wish to return to school to obtain an education or augment their current education credentials

Jessica

The size of the classes is usually large which makes things kind of hard at times but if you meet with the professor one on one he/she is usually willing to work with you to help your understanding of the topic.

Joshua

The only things that is bad is getting use to the food which you can get tried of.

Amy

It is sometimes hard to find parking! You'll find it eventually, but you should get to class early! UCF is the biggest school in Florida & has abou 10 parking garages.... That makes it more fun, though!

Rikki

The worst thing about the University of Central Florida is the lack of parking. Typically, students must try to find parking approximately an hour before classes in order to arrive early or on time. Currently, new parking garages and parking lots are under construction in order to provide for the high demand. Though it may be a nightmare finding parking, it can also be seen as a way to encourage students to "go green" and take the school's shuttle or carpool.

Jenny

The worst thing about UCF for me is that they are located in Orlando, FL and I live inPalm Bay, FL. They have a campus in Palm Bay; however, they do not offer the courses that I am interested in. At this point, I am taking online courses or courses via video streaming. There will be a time when I have to start going to Orlando for classes and I haven't figured out how to do that yet, since I work fulltime and I am a single parent raising two children. I will cross that bridge at that point.

Daryl

There are no things at my school that are bad in any way. My current College is determined to pass all students who are willing to learn and open their minds to new ideas and concepts.

Alexandra

The campus is huge, so it takes a while to walk to class.

Tiffany

It is a large univerity so it can be intimidating.

Stevie

The parking is horrible. You have to arive at least two hours before your class to find a parking spot. More parking spaces need to be added ASAP!

Serena

The worst thing at my school is parking. Other than that I think everything else is ok.

Jason

The only negative aspect that I am vocal about pertaining to my school is the oversized classes. Most of the classes are lecture based with an appropriate lab section required as well. The lecture classes tend to have upwards of 200 students with only one professor to teach. The labs are smaller with approxamitely 30 student taught by two or three undergraduate teaching assistants. While the labs are sufficient, I would rather spend more time with a professor that i directly ask questions to.

Lucas

I consider the number of students to be the worst thing about my school. Currently we are the third largest school in the country. No parking, no books, no computers, no quiet space, no place to sit, professors are overwhelmed, ect. All of these things get to be very frustrating.

Erin

The worst thing about UCF is the limited amount of housing that is offered to students who are not freshmen. As a freshman you can live at any of the six communities on campus and two communities off campus, but as a upperclassman there are only two housing options to live in. UCF is the fifth largest school in the country, so a lot of sophomores, juniors, and seniors are forced to live off campus and then pay transportation fees.

Stephanie

Honestly, I really do not have anything to say that is bad about my school. One thing that can be somewhat annoying is the process of trying to get into classes that may already be full. But this is standard procedure.

Samuel

The worst thing about the school is the location. Coming from a smaller town, going to school in a big city is quite a change. I'm not used to the amount of traffic in such such a large city but I am growing to appreciate it.

Mia

UCF is the fastest growing university in Florida. Currently there are more than 50,000 students that attend UCF. Because of this, getting required classes can prove to be difficult and at times it's hard to find good parking spaces. Some students find it difficult to obtain a Bachelor's degree in four years.

Olufunmilayo

The worst thing about my school is that the campus is overcrowded. The two major problems that are a direct result of this include the large classroom sizes and the lack of parking. The class size for some general education class is up 400 students; the large student number sometimes makes the classroom a difficult learning environment. Parking is a huge issue because a student must arrive to campus at least an hour early in order to find parking. For the students who commute to school, this becomes a nuisance.

Sebastian

None

Ashley

Many students, not enough parking on campus!

Kurt

The lack of parking for students both living on and off campus. with a population of 52,000+ students and only around 12,000 parking space it can make arriving to class in a timely manner both a burden and a stressor.

Jamie

"Customer service" is a big issue. When asking a question, especially one involving finances, to dining services, financial aid, or other administrative offices, the employees never provide consistent information. Last semester for example, my parents, sister, and I were given false information about a meal plan during orientation before the fall semester. We are now having to lay out an extra $1500 even though they made a mistake. It feels that the only way to get the proper information is to yell at the person over the phone, and it is incredibly frustrating.

Keri

The worst thing about our school is that so many people attend, it is sometimes difficult to get certain classes because they fill up so fast. There are certain general education requirements that every student need to take before they take the classes that count towards their major. Once you get into your major, it is easier because they are more specific to your needs.

Erica

I live in Cocoa, so I have to travel forty-five minutes away to take exams in Orlando for video stream classes. I wish the University of Central Florida school on the Cocoa campus had all the BABS classes available so I could be closer to the school and finish my degree. I work twenty to thirty hours a week and I feel I am only able to take two classes a semester. UCF only offers a pell grant if I take nine credit hours or more. I pay for my own books and student loans myself.

Ashley

The school I attend is great. But if I had to mention one thing that was bad about my school, it would be that there is too much construction going on. It makes it harder to get around. It sometimes causes me to be late to class because you have to take detours.

Tatiana

The amount of financial aid promised is not equivalent to the amount of financial aid offered. I want to graduate, but it seems hard with not enough money out there to offer their students. They should help out more when it comes to money.

Sherry

Even though this is an issue for other colleges, I believe the worst thing is UCF's pride in the number of studends. Haven't they ever heard of quality over quantity? As much as I love UCF, I can't help but resent their need to grow with students instead of growing with the quality of the education they should give.
