University of Central Florida Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Jamie

Scehduling is a problem for a lot of students. The people who make the course catalogues do not listen to the faculty when the faculty states that certain courses should/should not be a prerequisite for another course in that particular degree program. I feel that it is detrimental to students when the advisors do not correct the course catalogue and thus any plan the student may have goes out the window because it is not possible due to errors in the catalogue that were never corrected.

Angela

The most frustrating thing is registering for classes

Karen

size.

Shawn

The most frustrating thing about my school is how large classes are.

Jaileen

The most frustrating thing about my school would have to be the location. It is necessary to have a car if one would like to go anywhere off campus. It seems like everything is far from campus.

Lauren

Not having enough financial aid.

Devin

The administrative offices. There's high turnovers of staff, so often they don't know which departments handle what, and won't be of much help if your circumstances are unusual or outside of the normal student load for them. Registration/course information for the next semesters aren't posted as early as the local colleges post theirs! It makes planning difficult. Professors tend to change the required books for the courses at last minute -completely ruins any planning efforts.

Mary

It is very large so most of the lecture classes constiture more than 100 students and there is not much student teacher interaction. Parking can be a problem as well.

Rebecca

The most frustrating thing the University of Central Florida is the amount of people that go here. The parking lots and parking garages are like jungles when you are trying to find parking. I have spent more than an hour many times trying to find a parking spot. If you are a student here, make sure you give yourself like an hour and a half to find parking. You will need it!

Amy

Typically transfer problems, you may have to fight for certain credits to be transferred. I hightly recommend having a copy of all your courses' syllabi. You will probably encounter the bottleneck problem. The university requires certain classes to be taken first before they will allow you to take other classes. This may cause problems for students who have to be full-time for finanical reasons.

Brian

The most frustration thing about the school is the way they treat students. I encountered a few problems and there was no one who was able to help me. The faculty and staff all blamed everthing on a computer software issue.

Alyssa

Parking on campus. It can be difficult, but you learn to manage.

marina

finding on campus parking

Dorothy

The lack of adequate parking.

Elysia

I feel the financial aid department was very frustrating. This is my first semester at this school. I had the hardest time getting answers from the financial aid representatives. The person I would speak to over the phone would give me different information than the person I would see face-to-face. I even did some communication via email at the request of the phone representative. They didn?t respond to all of my communication and I had to literally call and visit them almost every other day to get assistance. Several of my classmates also experienced this problem.

Stephanie

I think as an older student returning after 21 years of NOT being in school I have found that UCF has not helped me with the questions I have had. I have not had a lot of guidance and have had to research the entire admission/financial aid process myself. I do, however, hope that my attending Orientationwill answer some questions and help me in the direction I would like to see myself follow.

Andrea

Parking is very limited. Also the administration is not very helpful when needed help. They often give you the run around and will not give direct answers. Also there is no school loyalty among the students.

Thelma

I am not able to find a computer to use in the library. The library is very packed!!!

Kisha

I would have to say the parking. There are so many students and not enough parking spots. They also issue a lot of parking tickets each day to meet a quota.

Chelsea

The most frustrating thing about my school is the fact that a lot of students who go to this school go here because they didn't get accepted to another school of their choice. Students tend to wear clothing from other schools such as University of Florida, Florida State University, and University of Miami. This causes some tension among students on campus and can be frustrating for the students like me who really do love the University of Central Florida. Although the athletics at this school aren't the best it is important to be proud of where you go.

Erica

Although I love attending one of the largest schools in the country, some times it can get very crowded and busy. It is nice when it is quiet and their are not so many students around all of the time.

Eric

It has a massive student body. We're the 7th largest school in the nation. Parking is always going to be a battle. Traffic at peak hours is a little crazy. It also means classes are filled quickly.

William

It would proably be the cost of tuition and food. If students do not buy the meal plan and eat on campus, the prices change every semester. Tuition naturally has to go up, but it's never a pleasant thing.

Richard

The most frustrating thing would be the process of trying to get financial aid. There are so many documents and offices that you have to visit. I wish that there was more online access, rather then going to two to three buildings filling out and turning in papers.

Nicole

The only frustrating thing about my school that I can think of is that the textbooks are extremely overpriced, so one has to go elsewhere unless one is willing to spend a ridiculous amount of money on textbooks. This is the case at most schools, though.

John

The most frustrating thing about UCF would probably be walking around in the sun, but that's not really the school's fault. Also, there isn't much room for traffic going towards the houses near campus. However, all the apartments have plenty of easy access. Another frustrating bit is the fact that alcohol is only served at a couple places on campus, and can't be served during special school events in the arena.

Sarah

They don't listen to the students needs and promiss things that don't happen durring your time there to get you in the door.

Porsche

The most frustrating thing about my school is the parking. There are way too many students and not enough parking. Sometimes finding financial aid is also frustrating.

Christine

It's in a larger city and far away from where I live. I commute, so it takes a while to get there.

Annabeth

Parking/Traffic

Amy

It is sometimes difficult to arrange an appointment with the advisor.

Ashley

The most frustrating process involved with UCF is by far signing up for classes. Each student is assigned a time slot to register for the upcoming semester courses. During this time, you have an idea of what classes you are planning on taking but find that the course you want is either full or unavailable. You have to resort to your next choice which could be either a bad time for you or a professor you did not want. Do not stress out too much because you can always go back and change classes.

Jeanette

The most frustrating thing about UCF is the lack of housing for upperclassmen and the lack of parking. It's annoying to come home from the club on a Friday night and find out you have to park across campus because there is no parking in your dorms parking lot.

cody

the teachers seem to be there for a pay check and not to teach students

eric

sometimes its the people , not having enough money to live in orlando right now with a lot of issues here and their as well

Leah

I think that the changing of calendar years when I came in was frusterating. I have classes from the old and new calendar year and I feel like my advisor has not been as much help or as available as I needed. Also, the parking is ridiculous. The first couple weeks of school if you are not there an hour before class forget about trying to find a spot. I have been frusterated with the registering for classes. I have tried to register for classes but the only open classes will be on a far away campus at weird times.

Kolrick

The most frustrating part of being here is that there are 50,000 students and I see the same people every day.

Daniel

How expensive Housing really is. And how little regard the school has for the art department.

Mai

The most frustrating thing about my school is the parking garage and traffic.

Haydee

My frustration at my school is the amount of work that I have to do in a short amount of time. Also how big are the classes and the way thta I can't communicate with my professors.

Marcus

It's tough to find a balance between getting a good education and work experience at the same time due to the scheduling. Internships, and Co-Ops help to provide this needed experience, but it's almost as if you have to choose one or the other. Do I cut back hours at school to gain some experience? This may delay graduation.

NgocMy

there isnt anything to frustrating about.

Mary

Parking! The school grows every year and they are trying to accomodate the amount of amount of students and build more parking garages, but these things take time. For now, parking is the biggest frustration.

Jennifer

There are just so many people. I have spent over an hour looking for a parking space in the past. I cannot go directly to the source or get an immediate answer. Often, diferent people tell you different things so the rule change depending on who you speak to.

Elissa

The most frustrating thing about my school is that it is so hard to find a parking spot. It makes me late to class pretty often.

Victoria

Parking is often a difficulty because there are more cars than parking spaces, but that is a problem at most univeristies

Rebecca

Not enough funding for our art department. Classes are crowded and nearly all supplies are made entirely the students' responsibility. They even closed our darkroom, an essential to the art of photography.

Emily

Although Housing is mostly available to students, it is very hard to hear from them if you are not immediately accepted into housing. If you are put on a waiting list after the first round of names are picked for housing, it becomes very difficult to get a straight answer from Housing on what your status has become.

Brooke

When exams are scheduled on the same days

Vivi

The social atmosphere is very welcoming at UCF. I wish there was more emphasis on academics to make my degree "worth" more.
