What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would make sure that the student knows the ins and outs of the degree program they are interested in, appearance of the campus, the size and location of the school, their perception of the attitude they get from students, social opportunities, job-placement services, cost of the school, etc. and weigh them all as if they are equally important. Do things that are outside of your comfort zone, don't be embarassed for asking questions, and try to get to know as many people as possible.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

This campus makes you feel at home and welcome instead of just a number. The classes are small so there are more chances to get to know the professors and get the help students may need to succeed. I have never not felt welcome here. The town is smaller yet has all the things a student would need so as not to feel "in the middle of nowhere". It is a centalized location so it is fairly close to everyones home no matter where they are from, which makes it nice for first year students.

Choosing a college is not easy. There are many options and this can make the process extremely difficult and stressful. Parents and students must work together in order to find the perfect school. My advice would be to do all the research and find out as much as possible about each school the student is interested in. Tuition is an important aspect to acknowledge when looking for a college. Not every school is created equal so it is smart to know what kind of education the student would recieve for the amount of money being paid. Class size is also important. Does the student enjoy large or small classes? Are there plenty of opportunities to meet with professors and recieve help if it is needed? Will they be a number or will they be on a name to name basis with the professors? All these things are very important to know. Envolment opportunities are also helpful. Having many options of sports, clubs, and groups helps students get involved and gain a sense of belonging. In short, take plenty of time when looking for the perfect school. The right one is out there it just takes time to find it.

What kind of person should attend this school?

This campus is the perfect place for someone who is used to a smaller town and a close knit community. The campus is beautiful, clean, and not over populated. Class sizes are perfect for class discussions and the ability to get to know the professors, as well as recieve the help a student may need. There are hundreds of activities and groups to become involved in. This university strives to make everyone feel at home and get students involved in what goes on throughout campus. Help is never far away and security is not an issue here. It's perfect.

Visit the campus and meet with the instructors. The biggest reason why I like this university is because of the professors. We don't have the best facilities (at least in the music department) but the faculty are so knowledgeable and helpful that it makes up for that a hundred fold.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

It can be hard to get enough financial aid to cover your tuition and I would avoid the academic advisors as much as possible because they screw up schedules more than they fix them.

Find somewhere with an atmosphere that the students enjoys being in. If they are from a rural area dont go to a densly packed city or vice versa for a city student. If enjoy being outdoors dont live in a cement jungle and if a student dosnt enjoy the outdoors dont go to a college in a rural area. Get involved with something such as a group, cause, or a way in which the student would be able to meet new people and have something to work at besides school. Broaden horizons such as meeting international students and people who share different backgrounds than what the student came from. Find people with whom you can trust and journey through this stage of life with. Dont be a loner even if inclined to be one it is not the best choice trust me.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

No one is dedicated to this school and are here for education but go home on weekends and any chance they get.

Describe the students at your school.

In all my classes, every one of my classmates have be genuine people. With me being a minority female, and usually the youngest in all my classes, all of the students have been very nice and always willing to help out. I don't think you could find people like this at any other school.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

The most unique aspect of the University of Central Missouri, in my opinion, is the class size in comparison to the quality of knowledge aquired. One would think that with small classes, one would not be getting a quality education by a qualified professor, but in this case they would be wrong. The University of Central Missouri is the perfect mix between larger schools' learning programs and small school interaction in classes. I love it!

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

To find the right school for you, the process is simple. First, look up schools that have the area of study in which you want to major in. Secondly, look at the cost. Even though your parents said that they will pay for it, just think about if they weren't, and how much debt you are willing to be in. I know it's scary but it can happen! Thirdly, follow your heart and find a school that truly interests you. The most important thing to keep in mind to make the most out of your college experience is to be open to new ideas. Be open to campus activities that, in high school, you did not participate in. As well as keeping an open mind to meeting new people. You never know who will be your best friend or your co-worker when you graduate! To conclude, if you want to select the right college and make the most of it, do not let the opinions of parents or friends justify where you are going to get your education. Remember, you are the one that is going to have live with this decision for the next four years!
