Diverse. There's a lot of diversity on this campus. Don't limit yourself in terms of people you meet and interact with. Stay open to knew people and cultures that you are not accustomed to.

I think UConn's student body is and is not diversified depending on how you look at it. Overall though someone would assume its predominantly white students. BUT, I don't think anyone would feel out of place here because there are so many opportunities to meet others who are similar to you either religiously, racially, economically, etc. There is a lot of interaction between groups as well and many organizations on campus come together for numerous occasions. The average students isn't overly wealthy or poor. Everyone is pretty chill around here, with a few exceptions of course. Id say most students have some type of school spirit and enjoy a good time. There is a good amount of political activism on campus too. Its not overbearing but it raises awareness. I have had a good experience with a lot of the people I've come into contact with here.

UConn has so many different types of people and all the expereiences have been great. I am proud to say that I have all different types of friends. I think a campus like this promotes acceptance of people with different lifestyles and backgrounds. I dont think any type of student would feel out of place at UConn because there is really something for everyone. There are so many groups to join for every type of person. Most students wear clothes that are comfortable because it can be hard to get up for class. There are a lot of uconn hoodies and tee-shirts everywhere. In the winter you can't go anywhere without see ugg boots or north faces, but it's Connecticut and thats not very surprising. Most of the dressing up is saved for the weekend when it really matters. I would have to say most students are in-state students.

Uconn has their very own clone army-the Uconn ladies. You can spot one almost anywhere-they all wear the same thing: a Uconn sweat shirt or t-shirt, baggy sweat pants, usually with writing on them, sunglasses, a Vera Bradley bag to carry their books around and Ugg Boots; Yes, every single one of them. The sorority ones usually travel in packs with their letters on their shirts or bags, but the Ugg boots are a dead give away. And when it's cold outside EVERYBODY has a North Face jacket on. There is also a Christian population here on campus-Yes, you can go to college and still be saved. We have some Christian organizations like Campus Crusade for Christ, Intervarsity and Impact Movement. We also have an AMAZING Gospel Choir- The Voices of Freedom- that actually have their own CD and go on tour during Spring Break. Whoever said God is dead forgot that Jesus rose on the third day!!! HE lives!!!!

Most students get dresses up for class. There are many who do wear sweatpants, so you would not feel out of place in them, but you may feel underdressed relative to others. I try to get dresses up everyday with the exception of some fridays. Most Uconn students are from Connecticut but I have met many from out of state, and do not think being from out of state is uncommon.

marisa

Uconn need to be more diverse, there is a lack of minorities representation opn campus. Need to be more diverse.

Chelsea

It seems like every possible group is represented on our campus. The cultural centers add a very diverse feel to our campus. It seems like students are becoming more politically active and aware, especially about causes such as genocide and world hunger.

Natasha

I am not particularily religious, so its really hard since i live on a floor where there are VERY religious people. Dont get me wrong, I will always respect ones beliefs and ideals, but many of the people on my floor are persistent, and often bring their religions randomly during conversation, so it makes it slightly uncomfortable. And whats with the random people in the Student Union badgering people all the time about religion. I was once trapped in the corner of a doorway while two extremely religious foreigners talked to me about a Mother God, it was very awkward. Most people dress normally. Many of the students that come here are from New England. Most are middle-upper class (unlike me). Most of my friends are politically aware, many are very excited about the upcoming election. Most of my friends are liberal.

Emily

Most students are white, catholic, and from the middle class. Yet, that is the majority. I am Jewish and I know many Jewish students. ADditionaly, my roomate is African American. There is a place for every kind of student. Many students where sweat pants or jeans and uggs to class. Different students interact.

Megan

I believe that UCONN is a very diverse campus. I don't feel there is any type of student that wouldn't feel welcome here.

Maureen

Greek life is slowly becoming stronger at UConn. It is a great way to get involved on campus. It gives you a social life and you meet a ton of great people. If you decide to join Greek life, you will find Greek's in all of your classes. It creates a bond not just within a sorority or fraternity but amoung the Greek community.

Mary

There's something for everyone here, but if you're a quiet person and don't like to "go out" often, then look elsewhere. Most students just wear jeans and their northface jacket to class. Don't dress up. People will make fun of you.

Tori

There are various cultural centers on campus (African American, GLBT, Women, Asian American, International, and Puerto Rican/Latino). They host a lot of events around campus. Students who feel more individual and hippie may feel out of place at UConn. Most students wear Uggs and leggings or sweatpants, definitely lots of brand names and UConn gear. It seems as though the student body is heavily influenced by cliques. Most students are from Connecticut, with New England area coming in second. Students are politically aware but not always active, and predominantly Left. I have never heard someone talk about how much money they will earn someday.

Jody

We as a overall university in my opinion only really talk about money when we are complaining about cost of text books. In general I have friends that came from the ghetto and others that came from very well off parents. It's a complete mix, it's very diverse, you meet all sorts of people, they dress nicely, or really weird. The lack of any one specific way in which people go to class, if they go at all, makes for a very intresting mix. We have every cultural center you can imagine, asian, rainbow, black, etc... If you feel out of place if you are not hanging out with people of your own ethnicity it's really easy to get to those types of friends. Consequently if you feel as though you want to know every type of person there is you can easily get that as well just by going to the centers, everyone is always welcoming and willing. It's a big unvierstiy, but seems very small since you see a lot of people a lot, but you can chose to meet new people every day. I've been here four years and I still meet new people every day, but i still see all my friends every day as well.
