I love UD. They offer a lot of stuff here such as majors, minors, classes, clubs to join, food options, and many more. UD also offers a lot of research opportunities due to the fact that it is a research school. I plan on being a neuroscientist, so I knew that UD was going to be a good fit for me. To new freshman students attend here, I advise that they take advantage of the opportunities offered here and have fun,

Honestly, people like to brush off Delaware as a state, but the University of Delaware was an amazing school and I really enjoyed my time there. I met some of the best people I have ever known, had great professors who motivated me to pursue my graduate degree, academically interesting courses, and had a student life that was fun. I would recommend UD to any young student!

University of Delaware is a very pretty campus, the Professors are very caring and available. They care how you are doing in the course, and if you are struggling, there are numerous resources that will work with you to improve you're learning and understandings. Living wise, the newest dorm halls are the nicest, the older versions aren't the best. There are many things on campus and around campus that you can do, and you won't get bored. University of Delaware is surrounded by a huge amount of restaurants, so from time to time if you get tired of the dinning halls, you can explore Main Street and check out the different variety of food selections.

The University of Delaware had everything I was looking for when I was searching for schools. Something I knew I wanted was a school with good sports and lots of student life, and from just visiting an open house I knew I could find all of that there. I also really wanted to study abroad in college so what better place to go than the school who created the first study abroad program. The opportunities the school provides for all the students is amazing and you can truly do anything you achieve at the university.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell myself not to worry so much about choosing a college and knowing that I would be able to grow and make friends no matter what. I would also probably have told myself to think about what I wanted to major in since I came into University of Delaware undecided. I would tell myself to just be myself! :)

  4. What is your overall opinion of this school?

Overall, this school is absolutely amazing. I love going here and there are so many opportunities if you look for them. I think its exactly the right size especially for my major, foreign languages, so you really get to personally know your professors and better practice your skills. All the alumni I have happened to meet outside of school and those who I have told that I go to the University of Delaware have an overwhelmingly positive response, especially in reaction to the program my school offers for foreign languages which is technically my major: Three Languages. Aside from the critical languages I study (Chinese, Arabic and Russian) there are ample opportunities to study other languages which excites me and many other students. Aside from the program that allows me to study three different languages under one degree, I would say the best thing about UD is being able to be so close to peers and professors because of the size. It gives way to genuine connections with people that care about you and want to help you succeed in any way they can.

The grades are not given out free and you do need to attend class but it is up to the individual as to how hard you work or want to be involved in the school. I would say a person who likes the mix of a good size campus but the location is in a small state.

  14. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before entering the University of Delaware, I was undecided as to what major I should chose. I wish I had known prior to enrolling that many of the majors I was interested in, such as nursing and elementary education, had tight schedules in order to graduate in four years. Due to the inflexibility of the requirements for some majors, there are limitations on what classes a student can take. My wish would have been to be aware of these restricitions before I was in college.

  19. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

There is a stereotype that all students of University of Delaware party every single weekend and are not terribly concerned with study habits. While UD students definitely know how to have a good time, they also know when to call it a night and hit the books. Also, there are plenty of students who are very in to their studies and do not party at all. It's truly a very diverse student population. You can find any type of person you're looking for.

  20. Why did you decide to go to this school?

Both of my parents attending the University of Delaware, as well as some of my aunts and uncles. Two of my cousins go to UD as well so Blue Hen pride is certainly in our family! In-state tuition was definitely a plus! Besides finances and family, UD is just such a great University. It challenges you academically but gives you plenty of outlets to relieve your stress. Also, I am 5 minutes from home and already had a stable job so I was not about to give those up!

  21. What do students complain about most?

Most students most likely complain about the parking situation. In order to have a car on campus, you need to pay a couple hundred dollars for a UD parking pass. The lots where students can park are only on North and East Campus, which is inconvenient for those living on South and East Campus. Personally, I do not see why a UD student would need a car other than for work. Everything is so close together that walking, skate boarding, and biking is all that it takes!
