My classmates are helpful and friendly. I'm in a small major so I have classes with the same people everyday and I enjoy being in class with them. My classes always have interesting duscussions because of my classmates. I would consider some of my classmates life-long friends.

Melissa

Friendly, diverse, intellectual, artistic, theatrical, entertaining, (if your a girl in engineering be ready for lots of boys) everyone is different and interesting in their own way, you will meet and have to interact with every type of personality you can possibly imaigine.

Shanna

My classmates are not very diverse, they are mainly white, upper-middle class females.

Students at UD are very outgoing, productive, fun to be around, intelligent, driven, wholesome, and caring, which leads to a rewarding college experience.

My major is not that large, so I know many of my classmates. I would describe them as hard workers, focused, and determined. We all work well together and not only do we see eachother in class, we hang out outside of our school work.

Caitlin

Shallow, rascists, conservative, and whiney.

Nicholas

While most students at the school are extremely academically driven, there is no lack of social life at any time of year.

Cynelsa

My classmates have been friendly and responsible for their work. Sometimes they slack off, but for the most part, they study hard to make sure their grades aren't terrible and that their scholarships aren't revoked.

Lindsay

my classmates are enthusiastic and fun to share a class environment with.

Carl

Classmates are a little better than in high school. Everyone feels like we are all at the same level, with one or two students who might be more advanced. Most people are very willing to help out other classmates with missed notes and help understanding lectures and homework. Small study groups can be easily set up. Most students have a good desire to do well in the class.

David

Very friendly who are very academically focused and study alot but still like to have a good time.

Jessie

Interview regarding how townies bother the UD students

My classmates are all very different but they all bring something different to the table. Growing up in the suburbs and being an animal science major, I am surrounded by people that are different from people I might have met in my hometown.

Allison

My classmates are competative and anxious to learn, yet often friendly and fun to be around.

Corey

My classmates come from very diverse backgrounds, come from all different parts of America (but mostly from NY, NJ, or PA), like to have a good time on the weekends, and study hard for the most part.

Lauren

Most UD students are from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. There are A LOT of students from Northern Jersey and New York City/Long Island. Many of these students don't wind up staying in Delaware after graduation. The most prevalent financial backgrounds are those of significant affluence. Not only is it out of the ordinary not to bring your car with you to campus freshman year, but it also sometimes raises an eyebrow if the vehicle costs less than $30,000. UD is not very diverse when it comes to race or sexual orientation. Most of the students are straight, white, and from the upper crust - although there seems to be an equal balance between conservatives and liberals politically. The study body overall is not incredibly politically aware. Money is a very popular topic of conversation. Do you have it, where does it come from, how much are you going to earn when you graduate, etc. Most students wear regular, casual clothes to class - jeans, flip-flops, and a hoodie are very appropriate freshman-junior year. There is a portion of the female student population that feels the need to dress up for not only class, but also the gym....we're talking heels, make-up, the whole nine yards.

Kristin

Most UD students are from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York.

Caitlin

There are a lot of white, middle-class kids here, most of them from New York (especially Long Island), New Jersey. Not that that's a bad thing. But the student body seems to lack a bit in diversity. On-campus housing can also seem segregated - minority students tend to live in Laird Campus for some reason, white kids tend to live in East or Central campus. But there are tons of special interest groups, it seems like there is something for everyone.

Alex

Students are fairly segregated at UD, however, it may have more to do with the locale than the school. Delaware in general is not the most culturally diverse place. Students wear whatever they want to class. This isn't the South, this isn't Amherst. Sweatpants and North Face jackets are welcome. You can't really live without Uggs. Even if you hate them at first, you will eventually fall prey to them.

Mike

I founded Secular Student Alliance my sophomore year for non-religious students and we worked together with religious groups to sponsor and advertise joint events and programs. UD is generally liberal and not overly political in general. There was some intolerance among some students, perhaps a reflection of an upbringing without many minorities, but UD in general is tolerant of other views and beliefs. There are few minorities so they usually band together, but there is a good number of racial and ethnic minority student clubs. Most students come from upper middle class families in Mid-Atlantic suburbs, and most students are well-off financially. UD students usually dress casually to class and around campus; even pajamas sometimes.

Emmerson

students here for the most part are all very similar.

Dawson

GOOD

Susan

- Whatever race, religion, sexual orientation you are, Delaware has a group for it. Although it was much more common to see people of the same race hanging out together, rather than interacting with other groups. I'm not saying interaction didn't occur--it did--but it was not uncommon to see a huge group of one ethnicity sitting together for food or walking on campus. - Most students wore jeans to class. Although, on a lot of the girls they were designer jeans, but that's a different story. -Most Delaware students are from the mid-Atlantic, particularly New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and, of course, Delaware. When I met people from places like Colorado and Washington State, I was curious as to why they chose UD of all places. - Some are politically active, most are liberal. - I don't think people talked about future salaries, but then again I wasn't friends with frat boys.

Emily

Student body is mostly composed of students from the Northeast and would say campus is made up of students from middle class or upper middle class backgrounds. Students are social but population is rather uniform.

Lee

Most UD students are from PA, NY, NJ, and DE. I think students are predominately left winged.

Katie

I wish there were things/groups/articles to get me more politically aware of what is going on in the world. I don't have time to watch the news, so it would be nice to read about it in a school newspaper article.

Jenna

All experiences are positive. Most students wear jeans or are very casual. They get more dressed up to go out.

Steve

Different racial/religious groups tend to seclude themselves within their own groups. It's just how it is. I don't think it's a racist issue, I just think people are more familiar hanging out with their own kind. Different kinds of students do interact, but you definitely see certain groups segregate themselves in the student center and dining halls. Students are typically left wing, but politics aren't discussed that much on campus.

john

There are definitely segregated dorms, and housing. there are historically african american frats, but at the same time there is a lot of good mixing going on. Racism is a non issue in general however.

Jesse

LOTS of religious diversity here.

Jordan

All of these questions have extremely varied answers. There are so many different types of people and religions at UD. It's a very diverse campus and there's a little something for everyone. The only differentiation is with certain clubs and definately greek life. Most of those in greek life separate themselves from others. Most students, as stated before, are wealthy.

Kristen

I was not involved in any groups on campus aside from different intermural sports, if that counts. Most students are in sweats during early morning and afternoon classes, but there are those few that are always dressed up. Different types of students definitely interact. Four tables in the dining hall: 1= group of girl friends, 2= group of boys on same hall, 3= friends from high school all going to UD, 4= mix of boys and girls. Most students at UD I think are from out of state, the NJ, NY, PA and MD area. Middle class financial backgrounds to upper middle class I would say are present. Students are for the most part politically aware and active, some more than others. I believe students do discuss how much they will earn one day.

Caitlin

There are tons of diverse groups on campus. Some of the ones dedicated to promoting specific minorities can get pretty in your face at times, but I would say most of these groups have good purposes and interests. Black students most commonly say they feel out of place on this campus, but I think that's changing. There's a UD girl uniform that's worn to class: black leggings, UGGS, and a black Northface jacket. The girl who wears this also usually has her hair pulled back by some kind of large black headband. Different types of students do interact, but not as much as they probably do on other campuses. Most UD students are from the East Coast. The states with the most representations are New York and New Jersey, but Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware are high up there. A lot of students seem to be wealthy, but a lot more are definitely taking out loans to be here, including me. Students aren't really politically aware or active... we've been called the most apathetic campus.

doug

Just like any place there are many different cultured people, in personality and physicality.

Adrian

As stated before, you can find just about anything on campus. ANYTHING!!!!

Kevin

I would recommend becoming active in some activity. There's the frat/sorority scene and club sports which can help you make lots of friends but may end up dictating your social life as well. Otherwise, there are plenty of clubs to join and you and your friends can start an intramaural sports team. These can give you things to do but won't necessary overwhelm you.

Jamie

You will find a variety of people at UD. There are the typical sorority girls, frat guys, athletes, geeks, goth kids, emo kids, tree-huggers, shy kids, old people and everything in between. I never saw any issues between students. I thought that everyone seemed to get along well. I think that people were able to interact with who they wanted to. I think that everyone who graduates from UD does receive a great education.

Meaghan

UD does not have a very diverse student body. Most people are white and upper middle class.

Brittany

Most UD students I have met are from Delaware, New Jersey, New York or Pennsylvania. As a staff member at The Review, we interact with a variety of groups on campus. Often racial and LGBT groups feel they are under-represented on campus. The Review has held group meetings to discuss these issues and communicate with the groups. Middle-class to upper-middle class, socio-economic groups seem to be the most prevalent at UD. On a whole, students are apathetic when it comes to politics. However, this election seems to have sparked more student interest, however.

Michelle

UD's students are primarily all white and appear to be middle to upper class. There is not much diversity at all. There is a lot of emphasis on appearance and everyone follows similar fashions. Most students wear sweats to class during the winter, but as soon as warm weather comes pretty much all the girls break out the skirts and dresses. Most UD students are from New York, New Jersey, Boston, PA and Delaware. Students are NOT very politically aware or active.

Nicole

Most students are white middle class. Most students are from the new york, new jersey delaware area

Sarah

NOT DIVERSE.
