University of Delaware Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Melissa

The worst thing about my school is that the faculty stresses diversity to a fault. They tend to not see the more conservative view and tend to be more willing to cater to the desires of liberals, atheists, and homosexuals. They see this as diverse, yet they do not give christians the same freedoms to express themselves because that would be "narrowminded".

Adrienne

The worst thing about UD is the eating situation especially if you do not eat beef or pork. Trabant (the student center) is expensive and does not have a decent variety, and the dining hall times are very inconvenient, dirty, and unappetizing.

Mitchell

the worst thing about my school is that it's hard to focus when you're the only male student in half your classes... but that isn't really a turn off. this is the best school for me and pretty much the entire student body

Sonia

Not enough financial aid.

Hailey

The worst thing about school would be adjusting to the new environment when first arriving. It is very different from high school and requires alot of maturing and devotion to succeed in. After you adjust to the new system of classes, registering for classes, living away from home the worst thing is trying to manage your time. There is so much going on in campus life that you want to do it all, socially, sports wise, academically and trying to work all at the same time can be difficult.

Emily

The school just keeps getting bigger and bigger and accepting more students without really having room for so many students.

Julie

fye

Kelsey

The worst thing about my school is that fact that it such a wonderful University but it is so hard to afford.

Eric

Lack of intellectual culture. Nothing to do on weekends but drink. Useless academic advising.

Kellie

The size. Requires a lot of walking and sometimes it is hard to meet new people and make friends.

Jessica

The worst thing about the University of Delaware may be the lack of flexibility in developing and being actively involved in one's own class schedule and studies throughout a students stay. I believe that Universities should allow for students to create their own agenda with a focus, but also leave room for exploration. If I am working and paying for my education, I want to also receive the education the suits me, and not the University.

Christine

Demanding coursework for engineers.

Molly

The lack of diversity because it makes those in a minority feel isolated. The teaching skills of the the professors is bad in a lot of cases. There is a difference between knowing the material and having the ability to teach it. All of the professors are well educated and knowledgable but many cannot convey this knowledge through teaching.

Brittany

I personally feel that UD is not as diverse as i expected it to be. Before i came, UD made it seem like it had tons of different races and cultures, when really it's not like that all. Usually all the blacks hang out with the blacks, latinos with latinos, white with white, etc. I wasn't used to that because in High shool i had all types of friends.

Katie

I consider the lack of diversity the worst thing about our school. Our community is predominantly white, and I think that is a turn-off for perspective students of diverse backgrounds. I believe that part of going to college is getting out of your comfort zone and gaining as many new experiences as possible. Being a part of a diverse campus can create so many new opportunities for all students, of all backgrounds to learn how other people have lived and how different cultures have shaped other's lives.

Seth

its ok

Alexandra

The worst thing is the safety. Instead of safe rides picking you up so you get home safe, they call the police on you for "drinking." They need to respect people's choice for calling them for help and just drive them home so they are safe.

Kayla

It is really expensive,I can barely afford school, the courses I need for my major are almost NEVER available. My advisor is always on Vacation.

Brian

Too many people are similar.

Christopher

My prehealth advisor is amazing, but advisors for my major and minor are pathetic. They change about every year and do little to help me.

Katie

Nothing!

Ryan

On-campus jobs

Allie

There is an abundance of drinking on campus which I'm okay with, but there is also an abundance of drug use, which I strongly dislike. There is a certain sorority that is notorious for their cocaine use. My freshman year a girl in the building next to me died from a heroin overdose. Every weekend there are several people who are taken to hospital for drinking way too much. I'd say 25{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the campus smokes pot. If someone wanted something, they could easily get their hands on it on this campus.

Jen

The only problem I have come in contact is the housing services. Not the people themselves but just the way that they, in general, handle their business. I had the worse roommate situation as a freshman. The way that they expected us to live together after we showed a dislike in each other. They expected us to use different rooms for a couple of days because they couldn't do anything.

Megan

There was alot of construction and there were crimes in the town by locals against students.

James

Bureaucracy. Dealing with the administration can be a painful process. Its clear that things like appearances often come before what is really best for students. Student's concerns are not always taken seriously.

Corey

The worst thing about the school is that the staff believes that all students need to be aware of the 'plight and discrimination' that the minorities around us have endured. In doing so they single out the minorities and do exaclty what they tell us not to do. There is too much focus on the issue of race, when the vast majority of the students at UD are white anyway.
