What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

Yvonne

The stereotype of students at the University of Delaware is of sorority and frat kids. Although I do not think this stereotype is accurate because there are many diverse types of students on campus. There is not just frat and sorority kids, but also geeks and any other type of students.

Katherine

The stereotype of students at University of Delaware is party kids at the frats every weekend. For the most part, a majority of people go out on the weekends, and like to party, but the stereotype is untrue.

Dani

One stereotype about Delaware is that our school likes to party. But the truth is it's not unusual to stay in on a weekend night! There are always a lot of kids that go out and party a lot in any school. Delaware kids definitely know how to study too, academics are a very important part of your college life at Delaware!

One stereotype about Udel is students like to party but when talking about the average student their personality can really range from anything to jocks and geeks. But the truth is you don't have to party and you want be the odd person out, their is a wide range of activities for you to do and its really what ever you make of it.

Kendall

The stereotype of students at UD is very much sorority&frat kids. I think this stereotype is accurate, as most of the kids on campus are in some sort of greek life, however, I think that greek life is misinterpreted as merely rich kids getting drunk. The greek organizations on campus do some great things philanthropically that I think many people overlook.

The typical stereo type for the University of Delaware is that the students have a tendency to have big and wild parties. In my personal experience, i would agree with this statement. Most of the students on the weekend do go out to parties; however, the school does provide activities to those who don't go out. The school does offer a number of weekend movies to choose from.

Many students think that we are a party school and drink all the time. While many students do drink, it usually occurs only on the weekends. Since there isn't much to do in a small town like Newark, drinking is often a bonding experience, but nobody really cares if you don't drink.

Common steriostypes are that everyone is from New Jersey and is like Jersey shore

Nicholas

The stereotype of students at the University of Delaware is friendly, outgoing people. When it comes to athletics, there are definitely jocks and such, but the overall outlook of the school population is friendly. Greek life isn't too big here, so the vast majority of students are looking to meet new friends that aren't associated with sports or Greek life. Because of this, students are willing to go out of their way to be friendly and meet new friends in their dorms, classes, dining halls, etc.

The guys are "bros" and it is mostly true. There's a lot of sperrys and polos at night, but most people just wear sweats to class. But theres enough kids at the school that you'll find all types of people. The girls are mostly athletic and/or preppy. They're definitely going to look good at night and some during class, too.

The University of Delaware is known as a big party school. The stereotype is that we're full of jocks and preppy, "normal" people. This is accurate. Most students come from a middle or upper middle class background and represent the average college kid. There aren't too many hippies or uber intellectuals, but they can certainly be found too!

Meagan

The school comes off as a extremely preppy school. This is true to some extent; the schools appearance is old school prep and some students are but theres so much more. There are so many different types of students here! of course you can be in a sorority or frat, but theres also nerds and hippies and kids who fall in the middle of everything.

Erica

There is a stereotype that all students of University of Delaware party every single weekend and are not terribly concerned with study habits. While UD students definitely know how to have a good time, they also know when to call it a night and hit the books. Also, there are plenty of students who are very in to their studies and do not party at all. It's truly a very diverse student population. You can find any type of person you're looking for.

Max

The common stereotype is that were a party school and middle-class/rich white kids

Jennifer

Football is pretty big here and a lot of people go to the games. The students may be stereotyped as kind of "douchey" and snobby, if you've read GQ magazine's article "10 Douchiest Colleges in America." As far as I'm concerned, I haven't met many people that fit that stereotype. Most of the people here are very nice and friendly.

Danielle

Some common stereotypes are the Delaware is a party School, all white, very Greek and has a large Long Island or Delaware population. There are a lot of parties, but it's not completely crazy. Some students party on Thursday and most on Friday and Saturday. There's a large bar scene, but that's strictly for people over 21, Delaware has strong alcohol laws. I've never met anyone who went to a house party every weeknight, I could be wrong, but I think it would be difficult to find. Sororities and frats do have mixers during the week. Most students are white so this is true. The university has recognized that they need to increase diversity and it's now one of their initiatives. Recently the number of undergraduate and graduate Chinese students has increased. Greek life is only 15 - 20{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of students. It's there, but if you're not involved you don't feel excluded. There are a lot of Long Islanders. This year's freshman class is about 10{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} from Long Island. But I find most people I meet are from PA or NJ. There are a lot of NYers too. Delaware is a very small state. They only make up about 30{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the student body.

There is a wide variety of stereotypes at Delaware. There are the Frat kids, the Geeks, and the townies. Yes this stereotype is accurate especially the one about the townies because they are the biggest stereotype on campus.

Nicole

A common stereotype about Delaware is that we are a huge drinking/party school. This stereotype is definitely true for some people and not true for others. There are a wide variety of students here, those who like to party all the time, and those who do not. There are tons of opportunities here to get involved in anything you want, be it clubs, sports, or greek life. Ultimately, your college experience is what you make of it.

Joey

Yep. Completely true.
