University of Denver Top Questions

What kind of person should not attend this school?

Olivia

The type of person that shouldn't attend this school is a person who has a hard time keeping up with rigirous work and who doesn't like to join clubs. A person who keeps to themselves would not be a good fit.

Nathaniel

To anyone not willing to dedicate every bit of open time to studying, homework or tutoring, this school is definitely not for you. The curriculum is advanced and, due to the quarter system, is sped up considerably. In order to keep up with the class, you'll need to form study groups with your classmates, get to know your teachers and attend their office hours, everything you can do to understand what goes on in class, you will need to make time for. The University of Denver is rigorous but in the long term, worth it.

Brooklyn

Someone who would rather learn in a large enviroment and enjoys large lecutres halls should not attend this school. The University of Denver allows for small class sizes which creates more discussion and allows students to focus their ideas and thoughts easier. If someone does not like discussion or is not able to learn from other's ideas and are very partial I don't think they would be a very good fit for the University.

Quinn

Those who have a lower socio-economic status should not attend DU. Despite a lot of groanings that goes on around campus about how much tuition costs, most of the students do not really need to think about money. Their parents who have attained a fantastic living for themselves which is a good thing. However, their children believe that they are entitled to whatever they want with little respect for teachers which is not. They do not understand expensive and important school can be. If one doesn't like people like they should not go to DU.

Veronica

The type of person that should not attend this school is a person who do not have a good work ethic, someone who is not willing to make friends and connect with others, and who does not enjoy a magnificent campus that rarely sees rain or clouds. University of Denver is a place that welcomes everyone with open arms. The academics and athletics are state of the art and do not stand for people who pick the easy way out. Not only does DU except everyone, but so do the students. Everyone loves to meet new people and share interests.

Katy

If you are really bothered by people who love labels and who are rich and know it, then I would avoid DU. Most kids are not that way and are super down to earth, but DU has a repuatation of being full of snobby rich kids who just take the easiest major and party every night. But like I said that will only bother you if you let it.

Jessica

The type of person who shouldn't attend the University of Denver is a person who does not like small to medium sized campuses or wanting to focus purely on STEM-related fields (mathematics, physics, etc).

Madeliene

Someone who is looking for the huge sports/ football/ school spirit aspect of school.

Kelsey

If a student is not very acamdemic or committed to their education, DU would not be the right choice for them. Everyone that is here takes their education very seriously and you must be willing to work very hard. So if someone is lazy and not dedicated to deadlines and achieving good grades this would not be the right place.

Maria

The University of Denver is challenging. The kind of person that should not attend this school is someone that may feel rushed in a quarter system. The quarters seem to fly by and are perfect for students that are bored by the semester system and want to move quickly through class. DU is not the best institution for students that are searching for their major. DU is expensive and provides a great education but you definately want to stick to a degre plan and be dedicated to your studies.

Vincent

Someone who doesn't have a good attitude about trying new things and learning. This school is all about branching out and experiencing something new and fun. We also need people who accept others for who they are, and make the campus feel safe and inviting for everyone.

Rachel

I would have to say that those who do not care for sports should not attend the University of Denver. Not to say that one who does not love sports will not love this school but they may not enjoy all the sport event actives the school provides such as camping out for season hockey tickets. This school has some of the greatest athletes and our success with all the teams composes a great part of our school. If one does not really care for sports they would probably not appreciate all the events and talk about the athletic activities.

Kiandra

Many of the students at this school are upper-middle class young adults who enjoyed a convenient and easy lives at home. These students tend to spend more time shopping and partying than they do studying. In addition, the school's general lack of diversity adds to the stress of attendingh the university. Thus, any student who plans on attending this school needs to be prepared for living and working in an environment such as this one, and either be able to fit in, or be comfortable standing out.

Joseph

Someone who doesn't like the sun.

Natalie

A person that wants a strong diversity of students should not go to this school. Several of the students are from wealthy families and out of state, there are a few in state, but mostly preppy out of state students. Also the students at University of Denver seem to party hard or not at all, so if you want a social life you tend to need to go out to bars.

Erin

Anyone who is closed minded will not be well liked at DU. We are a community.

Madison

Any person who is not serious about their education. DU is a school with a close community of young adults who are paying a lot of money to get an education. They are definitely serious about classes, studying, and getting good grades.

Bonnie

I honestly don't know. I think the school might be a little week on the science and math sides, judging by the location and state of their buildings, but I don't study that, so I'm not sure. To me, it seems open to everyone willing to work hard to learn!

Kelly

Someone who isn't willing to work hard and play a part in the community.

Natasha

People who cannot afford the University of Denver, meaning people who do not get huge amount of financial and/or they do not come from a weatlth family. This school is way too expensive to have to pay off in loans for only getting a bachlors degree. Also, students who like a large school and would rather be a number than a face or a name should not go to this small school.

Jeffrey

Anyone can attend the University of Denver. Just keep an open mind and the friendly people will approach you regardless whether you call yourself a jock, a nerd, or a cheerleader.

Claire

Someone who wants to party all of the time and skip class. People who do those things at DU will not be successful.

Cory

Someone who does not like to participate in class and likes to hide in the back and do their own thing. Someone who enjoys a more quiet lifestyle and does not like big cities.

Kristen

There is a variety of many different students. I would have to say that anyone would like this school except for those who are not very outdoorsy

Jillian

The ones who are only looking for a good time! Also people who are not motivated.

Sydney

If you're really big into school spirt, that's one thing DU is really lacking. It doesn't help that we don't have a football team and our basketball team is only so-so. Hockey is a big deal here and the games are really fun.

Hannah

This school is fairly selective and expensive, so it's hard to be a student here who isn't either very motivated or very wealthy. I think the school sometimes shies away from certain students who could bring an entirely new perspective to campus; a person who struggles with very intelligent and somewhat spoiled peers might struggle here. This is not to say every student here is like that in any regard, however they are a vocal portion of the student body and it's a learning curve to discover how to deal with some of those kinds of people.

rachel

I believe someone who is uptight and competive over grades this is not the school for them. Most people here are friendly outgoing and chill. They dont call it the mile high city no reason.

Clayton

Indoor people should not attend. All students are very active and like doing things outside. Religious people may not want to attend. Not that religious students aren't accepted, it's just not a religious school.

Cassie

If you search for diversity, DU is lacking in it. I know that currently they strive to make this better, but it's a slow process. As well, there is a lot of money that is represented here by the students and their families. Sometimes this creates unnecessary pressures on those who don't have the same fortune in their lives.

Megan

I honestly feel that there is a place for everyone at DU. There are so many organizations; religious, political, nationality, greek life, club sports, hobbies etc. Whenever someone transfers from DU for anything besides financial reasons I can't believe it. How? Did they even try to reach out to the DU community? Because if they did it would be impossible to not feel welcomed.

Kelsey

Someone who is self-motivated, loves the mountains, is looking to make friends for life, enjoys everything that a big city has to offer but with a slower pace of life, and someone who is looking to experience new things in life.

Sara

An individualist who cares about the enivronment

Laura

Students whose parents make a lot of money but can't really help pay for school because DU's financial aid office doesn't really understand that and won't give much financial aid.

Kate

Someone who wants to join a typical soroity or frat. White, upper middle class or wealthy. Enjoys outdoor activites.

Brittany

very self-conscious.

Bryan

Denver is an extremely spacious Western city with a largely unreliable (but quickly improving!) public transportation system. I would not recommend this school for anyone used to walking cities like New York, Chicago, or even Portland. Although Denver is a pretty liberal, fairly diverse city overall, the University of Denver itself is surprisingly conservative, white, and wealthy. There are very large and loud Republican and Christian groups on campus, so I would not recommend this school to anyone who would be annoyed at this being the apparent (but not representative of the student body as a whole, of course) norm.

Faith

I honestly think there is a niche for anyone at this school. The diversity is not outstanding, so if that is important to your college experience, maybe this wouldn't be the right place.
