I have been a student at the University of Florida for three years now and I love every minute of it! The application process was rigorous, as expected from a top college, but even with accidentally submitting the housing application late I was still reached out to. I stood out enough as-as good student that I was offered a program where I took the first 60 hours online, then finished up online. For my major, it was difficult but definitely doable. The staff remained inclusive with off-campus people and communication was excellent.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I would say that the University of Florida is a largely STEM-oriented school. This is not a criticism; in fact, this a major reason why I chose to attend this University. I will say it makes all of the STEM majors very competitive, and leaves some other, unrelated fields with less funding and support. Since I am pursuing a dual degree in Mathematics and Music, I am able to witness both sides of the coin, and will say that there is a disparity between the funding in different areas of study.

The University of Florida is an amazing school filled with great opportunities. From academics to social life, the faculty and staff is dedicated to the success of its students. UF is one of the best research schools in Florida and even provides opportunities for undergraduate students to participate in research programs. The environment is pleasant and comfortable, even as a freshman viewing the school for the first time I felt right at home.

The University of Florida has something for everyone. The Gator Nation is everywhere in the country! I've even met proud Gators in Europe. There are hundreds of active clubs, and greek life is not wild or inappropriate. We value working hard and achieving in other ways besides academics, such as leadership or in internships and co-ops. In the engineering community in particular, the school feels small. I see the same faces every day and I've only been here for about a year. I found multiple organizations with the leadership, friendship and development that I was seeking. The campus is beautiful, the bus system is friendly and accessible for free, and I can't even begin to describe the community that the sporting events create.

The school is beautiful and has such a high ranking. I take so much pride in attending the school, but there are usually lots of ethical issues regarding race and unwanted speakers coming to the school. Housing on campus is not the best, but I feel as if that's something that every student should experience at least once in their life. The sporting events are awesome and there is always so much school spirit. I love the university!

The requirements for my dream college were pretty basic. I mostly just wanted to stay in state for my bachelors, with the possibly of traveling somewhere else if I planned to further my education. With that said, I only really considered UF and FSU. And with my first year down, I can proudly say that I am happy I choose to be a Gator.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

The University of Florida is a very STEM, Greek, and sports driven school. If you don't fit into one of those categories, it's hard to get funded as an organization or have a well-funded major. Funds often seem to be disproportionately allocated to some organizations, majors, or unnecessary projects over other vital ones. The parking situation on campus is also horrible and keeps getting worse. Overall, UF is a good value for your money and the alumni network is extensive.

The University of Florida is overall a great school. When I first came here, I didn’t know anyone and didn’t expect to be connected with people that were very similar to me so quickly. The school offers so many different organizations that it is hard to not fit in with at least one. It offers an organization for almost every ethnicity. If your affiliated group does not have an organization, the great thing is you might be eligible to start an organization yourself. The school is primarily focused on academics, but they also care about the students. The University of Florida provides counseling for students who may need it and they also have this program called "U Matter We Care" which is there solely for the student's mental health. I find it pretty fascinating that they have such programs for those students who need someone to share whatever they may be going through with. Along with academics, sports is also a huge deal at this school. On football game days, the campus is hectic. People from everywhere come on campus and tailgate. There are tailgating stations almost everywhere on campus and it is amazing seeing how many Gator fans can get together to make a successful football culture happen on Saturdays. Coming to this university was one of the best choices I ever made in my life. To think that before getting accepted to UF, I was getting ready to attend Florida State University. I am forever grateful to be a student at one of the top 10 universities in Florida and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

It is a school where you can feel like you are a part of something bigger than yourself. I enjoyed my time their immensely. It is definitely and environment that it allows students to grow exponentially in every aspect of their identity. During my time at the university, I blossomed into a deep thinker, an advocate, a student leader, and a global citizen. Go Gators, always!

What is your overall opinion of this school?

My time at UF was fantastic, I would not trade the experiences, friendships, and life lessons I have learned there. UF excels in both academics and sports. Football is the highlight of any fall semester regardless of how well, or poor, the team is doing. In all kinds of weather, we all stick together. Traditional freshmen classes tend to be overpopulated, it is harder to get one on one time with your professors, but they do keep great office hours and provide help after lecture classes. The upper division classes are the best. The class sizes are smaller and you can have a relationship with your professors and other classmates. UF offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees that will get you on your way. Campus life provides lots of extra-curricular options with all kinds of interest. The programming board (RPB) on campus provides excellent events, movies, and festivals for students to enjoy throughout the year. Gainesville is a small town which is centered around the university, in recent months it has been developed to attract people other than university students. Apartments are affordable and the city provides an excellent bus service that is free for students as long as they have their student ID. It provided that traditional college experience while challenging me academically. The university is not without faults, during my freshman year a fraternity threw a blackface party which the university hosted a town hall meeting to gather student input to make sure this doesn't occur again. I believe the university has a long way to go in terms of diversifying its campus, but they are making the necessary steps. Go Gators!
