This is a great community college to start off with. I recommend doing at least 2 years to have continued education after high school. UHMC is very resourceful when it comes to helping out students from all walks of life and just the vibe on campus makes you feel that you’re wanted there and the staff is very helpful to all students.

The University of Hawaii Maui College is a great place to complete foundation classes and get a better view of the different majors and opportunities that are ahead in your academic career. Science classes are limited, however if you stick to your counselor's advice and the game plan you can complete a lot of core classes. There are many tutoring opportunities and ways to get help for any situation.

It is a lovely place to begin your college journey. The island is beautiful and the city of Kahului is a perfect location for this community college. Since it is the only college of any type on the island of Maui, the fact that it is so progressive and well-maintained is very commendable.

Cherith - 03/01/2018

My overall opinion of my school is that it does provide a good stepping stone into the next phase of my life, however, like any school, there are a few teachers who could help out their students a little more. The people here are very helpful and, when asked, go the extra mile to give the correct information and try their hardest for a better life.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back in time and talk myself as a high school senior, the first piece of advice I would give myself is to just do it. I know you're tired of school, but think of how much farther you'll be if you don't take those six years off before going back. If you start now even if it's as a part-time student, you'll at least be closer to your goal. What, you say you don't know what your goals are? That's okay, start off at a community college, take some courses, find out what your interests are. At a community college you'll have the opportunity to learn new things in a smaller class environment, and at a cheaper rate. Don't make the same mistake I made. I'm 45 and still have three more years to go. It will have taken me 7 years to get my degre, but I'll have it. Just wish someone had told me to stick with it, I would have been that much ahead now in terms of occupation. I could have had seven years at a higher income.
