What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Lauren

The most frustrating thing about my school is having to sign up and take tests at a specific testing facility.

Kevin

The most frustrating thing about my school if finding a staff member who is passionate about solving your issues. Although the professor's and advisor's credentials are great and have high regards to the research community, many of them treat their students like they are just another number. It's difficult to find help on where you went wrong on an exam or where your financial aid will come in so you can buy your next meal since staff members tend to treat you like one of the masses.

Irene

If I had to narrow it down to just one thing, I'd have to say parking. There never seems to be enough parking, although the school is trying to fix that.

alfred

The most frustrating about university of houston is the parking on campus and the computers. The parking is very bad if you do not have a parking garage permit. Also the computers on campus are very hard to find free, it always seems that i cant find a open computer. The wifi connection on campus is constantly going down for hours on end and when it does work its very slow.

Monique

You go for academic advising the first time and they say: "Sorry we're full!" You decide to sign up for classes you think you may need before going back. You arrive SUPER early. They make you wait for an hour (maybe longer), you finally get a meeting with your academic advisor. You meet for 2 minutes, where your advisor tells you that you're all set for next semester with the classes you already chose. That is incredibly frustrating! I recommend choosing your classes before going for academic advising and arrive as early as possible.

Alexander

The organization of clubs and volunteer programs.

Kyra

The most fustrating thing about my school is that they are not always very clear about how some of the financial aid works. They give you very basic information that doesn't usually connect with someone's personal situation.

Sarah

I get extremely frustrated with financial issues. I have been living in Houston for almost four years now, I work here, I file taxes independently, but I am still unable to get in-state tuition because my parents live in Arkansas and I am under the age of 24. Out-of-state tuition is so much more expensive!

Sandy

Honestly, there is no real major challenge at the University of Houston. Usually with schools there are social issues or lack of attention to certain aspects of the school but not at this university. The students and faculty are nice and greet eachother daily. Along with a great social environment, there are multiple opportunities to have free tutoring sessions. With the schools computers and 'blackboard' it is easy to stay in contact with teachers and others in your classes. Overall, the University of Houston is a great campus.

Personally, the most frustrating thing about the University of Houston is the financial aid distribution, this includes the people who decide the amount students receive , the timing of when the financial aid is given, and the little amount of advisors and help students have available to them when financial aid isn't enough to cover tutition.

Mona

There is no linguistics department and no upper-level Arabic language classes.

The most frustrating thing about University of Houston is getting administrative concerns handled. The size of the school causes all paper work issues to take an incredibly long time. Patience is key in these situations, as well as meeting all deadlines. Also, by speaking with a represenative at the Welcome Center, you can usually speed up the process dramatically.

Samantha

The absolute most frustrating thing about my school is the amount of attending students verse the amount of available parking spots. The school has over 37,000 students attending yearly and only a few thousand available spots. Because the university is in the middle of the greater Houston area a majority of students commute daily to the university therefore causing a huge shortage of parking spots.

Angeli

Mostly the administrative areas, I find myself running around for information. I am also frustrated with the facilities at University of Houston, they are usually old and not very well kept. I would also like to see healthier food choices and the encouragement of healthier lifestyles.

Sarah

The most frustrating thing about my school is the crippling bureaucracy in academic records. I takes nearly four days for the any emails to be processed and the telephone lines are either busy for absence amounts of time or your connected to someone whose purpose is to direct your call to someone else. The whole thing is infuriating! It’s a known fact that if you want to get something done you has to go to the office and watch them like a hawk.

Syed

There online and people services available our horrible for student help. Calling the university of houston is a nightmare as is the application process for their tendency to lose documents. The counselors are lazy and unresposive.

Christina

The most frustrating thing about this school is the parking. There are lesser parking spots compared to the student body. During the start of the semester, if you do not show up at the right time, you will end up parking somewhere very far away and thereby reach class very late and even tired. University of Houston is well respected in all aspects. Diversity, student help (student resources, library, counselling, career services), commitment- you name it and it is offered. Our university is working towards the Tier-1 status and thus, faculty as well as student are very dedicated in research. According to me, University of Houston provides me with everything I want and there is nothing frustrating about my school.

Tam

Somedays parking can be really streneous.

Mattie

classes fill up fast and all of the basics are really large classes

The most frustrating thing about education is the cost. This semester, I only am able to carry 9 credit hours, costing me over $2,000 alone. This is not the final total; however, since the cost of not only books, but art supplies as well are also added. Many people do not go to school because 1) they cannot finacially afford it, and 2) they do not know what options are available to them.

Dagmar

The admission process seemed very complicated and it took me quite some time to get all the paperwork, tests, etc in line to be admitted. Otherwise, UH has given me a great educational experience. Courses are well organized and most professors/lecturers are well prepared. Buying books was frustating at the beginning, but once I figured out to get a list of the needed books early and order them used on line, I was able to save a lot of money. UH has some old buildings that need to be updated and renovated.

Mary

The most frustrating thing about my school is that the parking lots are very crowded. Parking spots are never available for some students. The lots need to be fixed because they have holes everywhere and when it rains they get filled with puddles and it is impossible not to get wet.

Joshua

The most frustrating thing about my school is the administrative management. My school has a difficult time with paperwork and record keeping. I have had to go to the school on multiple occasions to work with them to get my grades transfered correctly, to get the transferes that were approved put on record and so on. This is frustrating when it is impossable to register for a class that has a prerequisit that the school has not got around to placing on your record as having been completed.

The campus security system that we have. There have been so many incidents dealing with robbery and assault and students are tired of it. They are slow to respond and don't do much when put in a situation. We need better security guards and more lighting around our school at night. It is dark and dangerous for students who take classes at night. For the amount of money we pay, we deserve to have better protection.

Sarah

Like any state university, they are not prompt with their help with financial problems. It can get extremely frustrating when you have a loan or a scholarship that isn't getting processed because your school is taking their time with it. Other than that the school is great.

University of Houston is not the type of school that is known for academics as much as it should; this is most frustrating thing about it. I came into this school thinking it would not be as hard as attending a school like, let's say, Baylor. Unfortunately, I was wrong, and because of slacking off, I had to deal with the hard part of having to bring my GPA up again. The education here is great and requires lots of work to keep up with, which very hard if you're lazy but well worth it.

Dashiel

The most fustrating thing about my school is that they do not have a men's soccer team. I would of liked to try out for a soccer team and compete with other schools at national level.

Kaylan

There is nothing really frustrating about it. It's a huge campus so the walks in the rain are not always fun. However it's a very diverse school, so there are a ton of people from all over the globe that attend University of Houston. The campus is very eco friendly as well. The trees and grass are very pretty and green. We produce our own energy at University of Houston, therefore there are no powerlines anywhere on campus.

Lack of student involvement, it is very difficult to make a thriving organization on campus because students are mostly concerned with their grades and future career. Add to this the fact UH is 85{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} commuter.
