University of Houston Top Questions

While the University of Houston is an excellent learning institution with a diverse student population and well-learned faculty, the fact that students here are not as proud of the university as they should be makes me feel disappointed. The worst thing about the University of Houston is that the students don't realize what a great college they attend and do not have much school pride. I love the university and hope this changes soon.

The area around it is very scary!! The street right beside our school is the 3rd ward in Houston

The worst thing about U of H is that it is next to a less than reputible area of Houston known as he third ward.

Since are students are so culturally and ethnically diverse, I believe our faculty should be too.. Our professors are mostly caucasion.

The worst thing about this school is to transfer here. It took months to get my hours transferred over. Then I had to petition basic classes like speech. I also had to petition classes that had the same title like educational psychology for educational psychology. The academic advisors also forget to tell you things. I am an education major and I did not know I couldn't take more than one field experience course at a time, or had to have all my core classes taken care of before my last junior semester.

It is a commuter school, so it is difficult to form long-lasting relationships.

Financial Aid Services is the worst. They make it seem like you are not worth their time. It like pulling teeth to get answers about any kind of aid.

I think school is your experince, you make it good or bad. One pice of advice: don't sit around and complaine like most people find a way to make a change. If you don't like it, fix it, nobody is going to do it for you. Our campus is old, but if you find a way to apperciate the history of it youmay be suprised at how much more you value the older buildings.

I feel that the University of Houston's administration is lacking, especially the financial aid department. I think the school spends so much time trying to upgrade the facilites that they don't stop to provide more financial aid for its students.

Being in/next to an older more "run-down" area of town. I feel very safe ON campus but I wouldn't ride my bike and I only live 3-10 miles from campus

Some of the beuilding are detriotating and there's no social life outside of a few places. Not many people feel safe walking around alone anymore.

There are times when it's hard to find the right people to help.

I consider the worst thing about my school is the fact that I missed the deadline to apply for another dormitory room and I had to apply for an apartment. It caused me to have to stay in a place I really didn't want to stay because financially I hadn't planned on the extra rent that I have to pay. I budgeted for four hundred dollars less than I'm paying now. This caused a hardship and burden on my family. During the storm (Ike) it was very inconvenient, because we didn't have lights or water.

The administration is somewhat a bureaucracy. Nobody ever knows who to speak to for administrative matters and students are always being sent on a wild goose chase.

The weather might make a lot of people shy away from attending this school. It is often humid and unpleasant during the summer when it rains and heats up. The school is making big changes so tuition is going up but the overall intent of the upgrades is good.

The buildings are a little outdated and old.

The University of Houston is a very cultural diversed school. There are thousands of students enrolled every semester, and this is great. There is also a real problem that can be considered the worst thing about the University of Houston - it is the parking lots. There is not enough parking spaces! We pay for it enough to have an empty parking space every day. Sometimes you need to drive around for an hour in order to park. What if you are late for your test or an important lecture because of this problem? Students need more parking space on campus!
